To wonder what part of this statement reminded Gary L of Nazi Germany?

This is Suella Braverman's statement Gary Lineker was reacting to when he said "This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s" ... twitter.com/GaryLineker/status/1633094764865126400

If she was saying she wanted to stop immigration I could understand GL's reaction. But she's not. I don't understand why anyone would not want to "stop the boats" when 1. they're lethal and 2. they're being run by criminal gangs. If GL had made it clear he wanted to stop the boats but thought this policy was the wrong way to do it, then fine. But he didn't - he just made an extremely inflammatory statement. He might be getting lots of love from some quarters, but personally I think he's an egotist who is playing into the hands of the people smugglers.

You say international law is being broken

No, the UN said that.
Ask them

Gullible fools."

So many gullible fools on here. People stating that asylum seekers can actually be illegal.

I think they mean fake. Which is true.

You are asking us to pretend it isn't.

I don’t live there at all how would I know? I assume you’re as capable of researching your own question as I am Confused

Why are you only interested in the consequences for Australia?

What about the illegal deaths of thousands of refugees?

You seemed clued up on the international law part.

People sometimes know stuff so they post about it. Turns out not.

Yes

that’s eminently clear 😂😂😂

carriedout · 11/03/2023 19:44

For me, I think humans matter. I would be ashamed if the UK sinks to Australia's level on immigration.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 11/03/2023 19:45

It was also controversial, but it stopped (most of) the boats.

Did they call refugees 'invaders'? And give them no legal way to come into the country even when they have relatives here?

pasta4metonight · 11/03/2023 19:46

Personally I couldn't give a toss about anything that comes out of twat Linekars mouth. Yet another trendy bandwagon for everyone to leap on and show how 'cool' they are.
A lot of these people on boats seem to be young men, why is that I wonder?
I said A LOT not all before someone jumps down my throat.

Also where did I provide any information on the consequences for Australia, raise it as a topic or claim any knowledge of it?

i didn’t.

I have though answered the questions you’ve asked to the best of my knowledge.

why don’t you return the courtesy?

What do you mean by fake?

Someone who is seeking asylum is an asylum seeker, the name is a clue. I suppose they could be fake if they told you they were seeking asylum and then never applied for asylum, is that what you mean? Is that what is happening?

Marsha doesn't answer questions, its the same on every thread. Every so often the get upset if someone asks them questions they don't like.

While you are here, please do watch this video. It will help inform you about the laws surronding asylum.

It was just a question, without asking I don’t know if you can answer.. Just say I don’t know it’s no big deal.

re what I think. It’s an interesting situation where very tough policy has become bi partisan and yes the conditions are often barbaric.

If people say they want to stop the boats I’d say look at what Aus had to do to achieve it, as just talking about limited safe routes will not fix this.

I find the idea that this will be resolved that easily to be pie in the sky. So people need to choose boats or new laws.

IClaudine · 11/03/2023 19:53

weightymatters73 · 11/03/2023 19:23

Asylum seekers have to declare themselves at the first safe country.... If they are in France they are safe....but they don't want to be in France, they want to be in UK so they illegally cross.... It's not difficult to understand.

They should seek asylum in the first safe place, if they don't they become illegal migrants.

Aaagh. This is such a pile of ill informed rubbish. How can people post this nonsense. Bloody well educate yourself about the asylum process. It is embarrassing to behold such ignorance.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2023 19:53

Whoops I answered your question don’t let the pp know, they care deeply.

Fair enough

like I said earlier on this thread, ignorance is a choice.

Or you could use some imagination - imagine you’re a Syrian woman in a refugee camp with your husband and children. You’re the primary caregiver. You have enough money saved to afford one passage from a human trafficker. Who goes?

You? Leaving your children with your husband in the camp? You’re less likely to find unskilled once settled.
A child? Unaccompanied and alone?
or your husband to claim asylum, find work (likely manual and poorly paid at first) and start a family claim for all of you?

it doesn’t take a lot of imagination to understand
