Yet another parking one (includes cone rage!)

We live in a road of terraced houses, barely anyone has a drive -maybe 1 in 25 if they are end terrace and have a slightly larger plot. It’s survival of the fittest and most people accept that. A few months ago some people moved in a few doors down with a very long wide truck. Initially l think they’re super super lucky and always get a parking spot. I then spot them ear mark a spot with a number of cones and don’t take their chances like everyone else. I’ve been giving the vehicle side eye for weeks.

I get back from somewhere late last night and it’s our turn now! It’s been parked outside our house all last night and today. Theyve gone out for the evening and left the cones to reserve “their spot”. Problem is it’s not. It’s a fairly busy road and other people want to park there. I think it’s highly entitled and rude -especially as they don’t do it outside their house.

Options as l see it see it:

  1. remove the cones

  2. remove the cones and put our car in their place

  3. suck it up. The man needs to put his big important man van somewhere, he can’t be expected to take his chances like everyone else on the road

  4. “assess” the situation for a period of time

Husband wants to do #4. Handy for him as he’s not heavily pregnant and didn’t have to walk 300 metres from the other end of the road like l did last night.

If they wants permanent parking for this large vehicle (it’s always partly in the pavement as well) he needs to live in a detached house, semi-detached house or hire a parking space / garage surely?

What are everyone’s thoughts?

i don't even drive and my answer is no 2.in fact the cones would be right by their front door, literally on the step

I think they’d need a permit to legally put the cones on the road.

So I wouldn’t see a problem with moving the cones off the road.

I would move the cones permanently, maybe call the Council to collect the stolen cones.

SoThisisMe · 10/03/2023 21:32

2 definitely. Leave the cones on his doorstep.

Cheeky fucker.

Nah, cones have to go on top of a phone box, bus shelter, statue or post box...you can blame the drunk students then.

Panjandrum123 · 11/03/2023 00:45

Move the cones. We have a selection of cones to the side of our house, used only if a contractor is coming who needs to park outside the house. Neighbours know and borrow them when they have their own builders/decorators/etc coming. Parking space is at a premium in our small road, no-one would dare to put the cones out for themselves unless there was a dire need.

whatthebejesus · 11/03/2023 00:49

Option 2. When you see CF neighbour next, thank them for reserving you a place. Was nice of them to be so concerned about a heavily pregnant woman

AlwaysLatte · 11/03/2023 00:58

Helpfully move his orange pointy property off the road where he accidentally left them. If you're feeling particularly altruistic, help them to join their cone family at a nearby roadworks.

AlwaysLatte · 11/03/2023 00:59

I don’t want neighbour aggro
They're happy with it though!

AlwaysLatte · 11/03/2023 01:01

Depending on the length of your car vs their truck ... what would happen if you just moved the cones closer together and put your car at the far end of the 'reserved space'. Would be mighty hilarious to see how perplexed they are at the cones still being there but space not big enough!
Genius!

Tinkerbyebye · 11/03/2023 01:41

Remove the cones and park your car there. And keep on doing it and encourage all neighbours to do it as well. You can’t reserve spaces on a public road

Streaky17 · 11/03/2023 01:48

Option x - laminate a sign "entitled w&#k£r parking spot" and hang on the cones.

They should not be doing this and you are pregnant so number 2.
And hide the cones.

Ladyofthelake53 · 11/03/2023 02:02

Id move the cones and park there cheeky fuckers

SchoolTripDrama · 11/03/2023 02:32

EL8888 · 11/03/2023 00:08

PS just noticed small car has parked in the spot at 1 end. Sadly too tired and in pyjamas to moved cones back around it!

Didn't you say you'd moved the cones? Where did you put them?

Poppyblush · 11/03/2023 05:28

Just deny moving the cones… unless they have a ring camera and could see…

good for you

Bagwyllydiart · 11/03/2023 06:54

Take the cones, fill them with concrete (let it set) then leave on their doorstep

nc345678 · 11/03/2023 07:22

I can beat this... we once had a neighbour who painted their own disabled bay for their car in our (public) shared parking space (for their self diagnosed disability!!) Needless to say they had to remove it by that evening due to the reaction of the street.. unbelievable! Well done for moving cones, some people are unreal.

Penguinsaregreat · 11/03/2023 07:30

Move the cones, don’t give them back, park your car there.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 11/03/2023 08:14

So glad you moved the cones. Looking forward to the conegate update of what happened when big truck (small dick) man got back.

Enidcat5 · 11/03/2023 08:23

Print the Internet page about needing permit for cones,
stick to cones
Place cones outside cf neighbour house

NailsForBreakfastTacksForSnacks · 11/03/2023 12:02

There was a guy like OPs neighbour who lived near my old GP surgery.
GP had a pretty decent sized car park but there was always one or two who couldn’t park. The road was public, wide and no restrictions but matey boy didn’t like anyone parking outside his house, despite the face he had an enormous drive that could accommodate several cars easily and only one small car on it.
Every morning he’d cone the road. One day I couldn’t park on the GP car park so parked there, moving his cones to the pavement. He was up in the window mouthing something incoherent, waving his arms and trying to be intimidating. Didn’t wash with me. I gave him a cheery wave and went to my appointment. My car at the time was a battered old Clio so I wasn’t especially worried.

what he did ensure though, was that every single time I was at that doctors I’d make a beeline for his cones, and friends did the same. I was a bit gutted when the surgery moved to the health Center tbh 😂

Newstartonwards · 11/03/2023 12:06

I’d tidy the cones to the nearest police station

PissTakeSubstitution · 11/03/2023 12:09

I’d also move the cones but definitely in a disguise. Then deny all knowledge.

wizzywig · 11/03/2023 12:17

Buy everyone cones

ohdoleavemealoneplease · 11/03/2023 12:18

bestbefore · 10/03/2023 21:36

Move the cones and if they say anything just say the cones weren't out when you parked, someone must have moved them earlier on. Play innocent

Unless they've got a video doorbell

AuntyMabelandPippin · 11/03/2023 12:34

Is there not a law against large trucks parking on main roads? I'm sure I remember a Police pal of mine going to the local Greengrocers and telling him he couldn't park there. Might be worth having a wee look at the local council rules and you could get the Police involved if it's still the law.

PurBal · 11/03/2023 12:37

#2. And when he’s parked on the pavement take a photo and report it, every time.
