To ask what stops you voting for the tories ?

For me
The unending shite that is brexit
Corruption and dishonesty, especially during the pandemic but not uniquely. And not just Johnson.
Making already deprived areas compete against each other for levelling up money whilst perfectly affluent tory voting areas are handed it on a plate (looking at Richmond N yorks Rishi ! ). Funny that 80% of constituencies getting levelling up funds are tory...
Whole culture war. Singling out certain minorities to attack for purely political gain. In the 80s single mums, 90s benefit claimants, 2000s refugees, immigrants. FWIW I'm fairly gender critical but disliked the way they toadied round Trump and his abhorrent opinions/followers who pretty much wrote the culture war playbook.
So what stops you from voting for them ?

I don't care about the EU @khw666

I care about the Brexit drag^ on our^ economy.

verdantverdure · 13/06/2023 16:40

No words...

Boris Johnson's No Deal Brexit pantomime diverted resources from disaster planning.

So we weren't ready a few months later, when the disaster began.

Boris Johnson scrapped the govt’s Threats, Hazards, Resilience & Contingency Committee (THRCC) 6 months before covid arrived in UK in order to focus on Brexit instead.

FarmGirl78 · 13/06/2023 16:48

The lies.

The assumption that we're morons who won't suss they're lying.

The don't-give-a-shit-ness that even if we do know they're lying they can just bluff their way out of it, lie some more and carrying on living in their ivory tower with no consequences and no regard for the loss of trust and devastation left in the lives of normal people.

The assumption that 'everyone' had secret parties in lockdown, that nurses had secret celebrations in staff rooms and also passed round the bubbly, that every one did as they did.

It's just all insulting to so many people. Its oblivion vastly beyond "let them eat cake".

Howpo · 13/06/2023 16:49

@khw666 I wont pick apart your links one by one, however the link on "1 in 4 children at risk of poverty in EU" stands out.

In the UK 30% of children are in poverty not at risk of it.

On housing, i think you need to look at UK rents outside of London and the NMW and the effects this is having on adult social carers who ares till on NMW in most parts of UK or slightly above.

Leaving the EU has made our situation worse NOT better, all serious economists acknowledge this, as do many Brexitiers.

Surely we should be aiming to improve our lot?

LadyGrinningSoul85 · 13/06/2023 16:53

verdantverdure · 13/06/2023 07:42

The Tories inflicted the second worst of all possible Brexits on this country.

Tories lied to our parents and grandparents about how good Brexit would be for Britain.

Tories promised Brexit would give us cheaper food, clothes, shoes, energy prices and save the NHS.

That's what Brexit has to with voting Tory.

And the parties are not the same.

Public services such as education and the NHS got better under Blair and Brown and worse under Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak.

The NHS waiting list has never been 7.4 million. It was 2.2 million in 2010.

Political parties are not the same.

Some govern.

Some use the power to take the country's money and assets and give it to their mates.

Couldn't have put it better myself! 👏

Confusedmumannoyedson · 13/06/2023 17:14

Underfunding for social care and then surprised that people needing care are stuck in hospitals and so hospitals cannot use the beds.

NHS shambles.

Lack of funding for education so it's not a level playing field.

Causing division to take the heat off their incompetence and greed.

Giving huge lucrative contracts to their mates.

Greed.

General incompetence on pretty much everything.

Lack of awareness of how people in genuine poverty live and so using sweeping statements to 'blame' them for their poverty. Failing to understand the huge advantages many in society have due to birth etc. It's not all down to hard work!

I could go on and on.

verdantverdure · 13/06/2023 17:48

I got on a roll there @LadyGrinningSoul85 Grin

Howpo · 14/06/2023 06:56

Funny that UK wage inflation (still almost 3% below RPI) is being blamed for our "sticky" inflation rate, yet the US has inflation at 4% and wage inflation even higher!

Maybe our super hi energy and food pricing + corporate greed is the real reason?

verdantverdure · 14/06/2023 16:03

The energy prices must be inflating the cost of everything, mustn't they @Howpo

verdantverdure · 14/06/2023 16:05

The mismanagement of our economy.

At least when other parties spend we get better public services.

This evidence from the Privileges Committee report on Boris Johnson lying to Parliament and to the country about Partygate.

The rules Boris Johnson imposed were only for you and I.

People at Number 10 performed a pantomime of them in public then held Wine Time Fridays, normal leaving dos and parties for "morale" at the heart of our government.

Carrie Johnson's friends had the key code for the number 10 flat.

verdantverdure · 18/06/2023 09:35

Today?

The first #Partygate video.

Of a party at Tory party HQ ten days before Christmas

They joke about the rules

And two of them are on Boris Johnson's honours list.

The rules were just for you and me.

The Tories did whatever they liked during lockdown.

All those people who had funerals with only six people at them. While the Tories were living it up.

Bastards. Utter bastards.

Agree, but I cannot vote for Labour or any of the others, so I either don’t vote, spoil the ballot paper or tick the Conservatives box…

Why can't you? We've all seen what the Tories have accomplished in 13 years. What makes you think that Labour or any combination of other parties could be worse than what we see now? I used to vote Conservative for many years but I stopped before the Brexit vote -I felt that they couldn't be trusted any more to do the best for this country. And things have only got worse.Ask people what the government has done to improve the lives of most people and they struggle to think of anything (except maybe the vaccine, and really, it was the scientists and NHS that gave us that)
I can only think it's a cultural thing for some people - they believe their natural political home is Conservative and cannot shift from this position no matter how much evidence there is against that party.
Much the same as diehard Labour supporters.

Florenz · 20/06/2023 21:48

I think the Tories are disgusting and will lost the next GE but let's not pretend Labour politicians are any better. We're all just "little people" to them. Politicians in general are not "good people". Good people don't go into politics.

Isitsixoclockalready · 20/06/2023 21:50

Every government has its sell by date and this one is waaaaay past its. The sooner it accepts the inevitable, the better.

LadyWithLapdog · 21/06/2023 13:17

The constant lies and re-grouping to support lies. See the many abstentions with the recent report about lying.

Yes. But it takes years to get as corrupt as this lot. So boot them out, have s a fresh batch, and then boot them out when they start filling up with shit.

Rinse and repeat.

OhLola04 · 21/06/2023 14:37

They are cunts, utter utter cunts.
I'm from Liverpool.
I am disabled and living in constant fear of my PIP etc being stopped/changed under the Tories. I have a mini breakdown every time a DWP letter appears.
Also, just my morals would forever stop me voting tory.

Bagwyllydiart · 21/06/2023 15:01

In answer to your question, nothing

Abhannmor · 21/06/2023 16:21

Some say there is little difference between the two parties. But this is not true . As Mrs Thatcher pointed out to Paul Foot of the Socialist Worker Party , no matter how similar they seem this is an illusion as ' they represent different people '. In this regard at least surely she was right

I agree, but nothing ever really changes. People who don't follow the news and who don't vote, would likely never know that a different party is in power.
