For me
The unending shite that is brexit
Corruption and dishonesty, especially during the pandemic but not uniquely. And not just Johnson.
Making already deprived areas compete against each other for levelling up money whilst perfectly affluent tory voting areas are handed it on a plate (looking at Richmond N yorks Rishi ! ). Funny that 80% of constituencies getting levelling up funds are tory...
Whole culture war. Singling out certain minorities to attack for purely political gain. In the 80s single mums, 90s benefit claimants, 2000s refugees, immigrants. FWIW I'm fairly gender critical but disliked the way they toadied round Trump and his abhorrent opinions/followers who pretty much wrote the culture war playbook.
So what stops you from voting for them ?

The Fash usually count on people not being well enough up on the history of these ideas in their previous iterations.

If a labour MP had used a known fat right anti semitic slur like Cates has there would be threads all over the places. So far I haven’t seen anyone calling for the whip to be removed.

Either she’s just completely stupid or the people who were supposed to hear that dog whistle did and slipped it under the radar without people noticing.

TheHateIsNotGood · 15/05/2023 21:23

I'm not party-political, never have been, just an issue-based voter that votes according to whatever election needs my vote. Don't care what the party is, unless I'm 'tactically' voting.

More proud that my ds considers casting his vote as a part of living/being - every election now since he was 18, now 21.

Don't care either who he votes for, more the fact that he actually does.

Their crony-ism, and inability to understand anyone who isn't exactly like them.

Inability to understand anyone who isn't exactly like then?

On a thread doing exactly that?

SomethingOnce · 15/05/2023 21:31

The fact that they don’t seem to want to conserve anything.

Boris Fucking Johnson
Partying through Covid
Hypocrisy

Oh, we understand them all right. That's the problem. We see them for what they are.

YES!

THIS!

Brexit was something the people voted for (whether we individually agree with it or not). I think they made the best of a truly shitty situation and it was a real no-win scenario for them (or whichever party had been tasked with dealing with it)

The deal the UK negotiated with the eU was terrible, no Horizon, no Erasmus, no equivalence of qualifications, inc Dentistry!! a whole series of non tariff costs, nothing for people who have homes in France, nothing on travel esp pet passports.

Similarly covid... they did the best they could in a crappy, unprecedented situation and actually the UK came out of it better than many other countries thank largely to the way our government handled the vaccine development and rollout. Credit where it's due

The AZ vaccine was and is proven unsafe, with many court cases against AZ, also it proved totally ineffective against subsequent strains BUT more importantly because the UK wanted nothing to do with any EU vaccine program, when AZ was deemed unsafe (blood clotting) we had nothing to replace it with, leading to a stalling of our vaccine roll-out and then paying through the nose for mRNA vaccines.

Our death rate was one of the worst in Europe, our overall death rate was the highest, we were also in LD longer than most too, with an economic hit to match.

Then what?

Passive-aggressive works so much better when you spell your aggression properly.

SerendipityJane · 16/05/2023 09:56

Even the Tories traditional magic spell of "taxes" is fucked to high heaven with teachers and nurses suddenly becoming higher rate taxpayers.

verdantverdure · 16/05/2023 10:04

People only voted for Brexit because Tories told them it would be good for Britain.

The people who voted for it were conned and lied to.

Primarily by Tories.

And Tories are still conning them and still lying to them.

Luckily most people don't believe Tory lies over the evidence of their own lives.

Tories gave us the second worst of all possible Brexits.

All Brexits are bad for Britain.

All Brexits trash our economy.

All Brexits are an insane own goal that primarily hurts ourselves.

All Brexits have no benefits, only downsides for ordinary British people.

All Brexits give you the opposite of what the Tories promised.

Only the "Go, Go, WTO" Brexit could possibly have been worse than the Brexit Disaster we've got.

To ask what stops you voting for the tories ?

Yeah.

Brexit devaluing our currency plus Tory inflation means if you were on £28kin 2010 you were slightly better off than if you're on £45k now.

Plus now you'll pay higher rate tax

Thanks Tories!

verdantverdure · 16/05/2023 10:47

And Britain did NOT come out of covid better than comparable countries!

Our economy is still way behind

Our death toll per capita one of the highest in Europe.

As well as spewing out alt right anti-Semitic conspiracy theories without a word of criticism from the MPs attending, including our Home Secretary, or the media.

It’s jaw dropping.

They don't call them the Nat-C party for nothing.

TheHandmaiden · 16/05/2023 13:01

The issue who are they for?

They don't want women to be well educated.

Cultural Marxism means that woke people are destroying the fabric of society

Business can go fuck itself

Lawyers should stop pointing out breaches of law

Civil servants are simultaneously lazy, machevellian geniuses who aren't in the office enough

Young people should be excluded by voter ID but they exclude pensioners

Children should have less resources for their schools as teachers must be paid from school budgets

Farmers should accept trade deals which will undermine their business

Immigrants should fit in and be culturally assimilated

Mortgage payers should have shock treatment via the Bank of England so they pay longer term rates in a year

People should not ask for cost of living increase in wages

People should pay more for the food to match European prices

Literally the only people do to well out of this government are old rich people. Everyone else is can get knotted.

We are screwed unless we change this government because they have given up on most of us.

Exasperatednow · 16/05/2023 13:41

They've used the Handmaids tale as their 'how to' book.

TheHandmaiden · 16/05/2023 13:53

Well they've given up but this is a taste of what they will be like in opposition and it's the end of moderate, competent Conservatives and the lunatic fringe will be having a turn. The real crumbs are making a bid to take over.

Think, not as good as Liz Truss.

Exasperatednow · 16/05/2023 13:55

It takes a while.

Half the young folk we know seem to be in various stages of sorting themselves out an Irish passport.
