For me
The unending shite that is brexit
Corruption and dishonesty, especially during the pandemic but not uniquely. And not just Johnson.
Making already deprived areas compete against each other for levelling up money whilst perfectly affluent tory voting areas are handed it on a plate (looking at Richmond N yorks Rishi ! ). Funny that 80% of constituencies getting levelling up funds are tory...
Whole culture war. Singling out certain minorities to attack for purely political gain. In the 80s single mums, 90s benefit claimants, 2000s refugees, immigrants. FWIW I'm fairly gender critical but disliked the way they toadied round Trump and his abhorrent opinions/followers who pretty much wrote the culture war playbook.
So what stops you from voting for them ?

Because of the bedroom tax and slashing of legal aid

verdantverdure · 04/05/2023 18:11

Yellowdays · 03/05/2023 22:57

The list is endless.Even today I saw another Tory MP was taking cash every month for questions in the house. Dreadful people.

It might be quicker to list the Tory MPs who aren’t on the take in some way.

Clementineorsatsuma · 04/05/2023 18:47

Literally everything they do.

ArianahX · 04/05/2023 19:47

Everything

GodSaveTheClean · 04/05/2023 20:17

Everything. And this is from a full blown Tory upbringing. I’m ashamed of the state the country is in.

verdantverdure · 04/05/2023 22:21

My Brexit and “Boris” loving parents say they have voted Lib Dem today “because of the state of everything”

As did their neighbour who intended to vote Tory but was sent home to get ID and was so fed up about being tested like a criminal she converted on the way back. 😁

LadyWithLapdog · 05/05/2023 08:03

That’s encouraging about your parents and ironic about their neighbours @verdantverdure Although shouldn’t wait till it personally affects them.

squidwid · 05/05/2023 08:06

Their ignorance 💔

verdantverdure · 05/05/2023 15:04

My parents are expecting a big Lib Dem surge where they live @LadyWithLapdog (The New Forest)

I agree with you about the neighbour, but it amused me. Some people think these new Voter ID laws only affect “other” people and they don’t care about that.

Chatillon · 05/05/2023 15:41

Overwhelmingly due to the niche private groups they form, outside the realms of parliament where decisions are made to benefit only a select few. Often done legally but totally unethically without oversight.

Dinner parties around Chipping Norton where decisions are made on how to influence national housebuilding policy, awarding government contracts and tax policy.

It 100% goes on I assure you. It is like Russia Mark 2.

I was raised by a family of Labour supporters in a WC area so despite working my way up the ladder to become more MC, my roots are ultimately WC and I was raised to think of tories as scum much like Ms Rayner.

Having said that, I am a literature lecturer so always encourage a bit of critical thought. I wouldn’t personally vote for them because I find their general mindset is quite black and white with no understanding of grey matter whatsoever. It’s always ‘if I succeeded, anyone can’ which isn’t necessarily true. No real empathy for people who struggle, constantly a one track mind and always seemingly in it for themselves. They’ve driven the public sector into the ground over the past 13 years as they always tend to.

I grew up being told the tories make the rich richer and poor poorer which is kind of true.

verdantverdure · 06/05/2023 00:28

I’m well informed enough to recognise when I am
being lied to.

And I don’t like being lied to.

verdantverdure · 06/05/2023 06:41

I think “Stop The Boats” is a big turn off for the non racist majority.

“Stop The Votes” if you will… :D

LadyWithLapdog · 06/05/2023 10:04

What’s with the 3 word slogans? Can the voters not cope with more?

Florenz · 06/05/2023 10:10

Short snappy slogans work, it's why advertisers use them.

Simianwalk · 06/05/2023 10:12

Scienceandreason · 06/03/2023 19:43

Meh. The tories are terrible, yes, but they're the only available choice against Labour, Greens and lib dem.

Unless I spoil my ballot which I'm loath to do.

How on earth is anyone else worse than the Tories? I cannot fathom how indoctrinated people are.

sylvandweller · 06/05/2023 10:13

The stuff between my ears

verdantverdure · 06/05/2023 12:09

Three word slogans only work until you find out they’re a lie.

See: Brexit

verdantverdure · 06/05/2023 12:23

13 years of the Tories has culminated in a broken economy, a higher mortgage rate, higher rents, higher food prices, sewage on our beaches, you can’t get an ambulance or a copper when you need one, crime is up, rape is arguably legal, and even if we’ve had a few sizeable pay rises in the last 13 years most of us aren’t any better off in real terms.

They’ve shown us what Tory ideology can deliver.

Who in their right mind would vote for even more of it?

Decency. Moral Values.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 08/05/2023 01:22

My Tory council had three deaths of children during Covid. It’s been a mess for a very long time and the counsellors would rather feather their own nests than makes changes for the better

verdantverdure · 08/05/2023 12:09

I’m quite tired of being told Covid and Ukraine are to blame for everything.
