WWYD - influencer suddenly stopped posting

Dotty1111 · 06/03/2023 14:38

Not really an AIBU but concerned an influencer with 50k followers on insta, an ebook etc hasn't posted since January. Aware there could be lots of reasons but clearly this was a business for them and its just stopped abruptly.

I've sent a message that hasn't been responded to. They do have an email address which looks like a personal address listed but don't want to hound them. Regularly think about them and wonder if they are OK!!!

WWYD?

I wouldn't do anything.

TeaAndTattoos · 06/03/2023 14:40

Get a grip and leave them alone is what I would do.

notacooldad · 06/03/2023 14:40

Personally I wouldn't do anything. Persumably the influencer has people around her in real life.

DirectionToPerfection · 06/03/2023 14:41

Nothing. It's none if your business. Kind of odd that you think it is.

gamerchick · 06/03/2023 14:41

Don't do the stalker thing OP, it's not cool.

steff13 · 06/03/2023 14:41

I would assume that if anything is wrong she has real life friends and family who will address it.

NoSquirrels · 06/03/2023 14:41

I would do… nothing.

That’s online life. They have no responsibility to you, and you’re not their friend. Sorry.

Darkstar4855 · 06/03/2023 14:42

Why would you do anything? People stop posting for loads of reasons, they don’t owe you an explanation.

Startuplife · 06/03/2023 14:42

Have a look to see if there is a thread about them on Tattle. There will probably be some info there if you’re really desperate to know.

Ffsmakeitstop · 06/03/2023 14:42

I would never be "influenced" by some random on the internet. Real friends are better.

DramaLlama20 · 06/03/2023 14:42

Who is it? 50k is not that many really
Many of them do this on purpose and then come back with a (often made up) tale of woe to share with their followers. Maybe he/she is doing that.

WaddleAway · 06/03/2023 14:43

You don’t know this person? Then you do nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m sure they have family/friends around them if they’re in need of support. What help do you think a stranger would be? Or do you just want to know what’s happened out of curiosity?

TakeMe2Insanity · 06/03/2023 14:43

They’ll have people in their real world checking up on them. You swipe on to the the next person.

anythinginapinch · 06/03/2023 14:44

Bloody hell. Worry about someone you actually know.

Letstaketotheskies · 06/03/2023 14:45

I think you could report the situation to the platform (YouTube, Instagram or whatever. TikTok probably not worth bothering about).
That’s as far as you need to go. Don’t message them anymore yourself. They did 100,000 ´r u ok?’ Messages, whatever’s happened.

Dotty1111 · 06/03/2023 14:46

No info on tattle, I don't think the influencer is big enough.

It's not that I am 'influenced' by her. Its a style page and is great for helping me mix my wardrobe up for work as easy to follow, simple pieces that are like what I own but styled well. No need to sneer.

Nimbostratus100 · 06/03/2023 14:46

Maybe they got a real job?

GoldDuster · 06/03/2023 14:47

You feel concerned about this person, you think about their welfare regularly and wonder why they stopped posting on Instagram. They don't owe you an explanation unfortunately, they're a stranger, and you may never get it.

They don't know you exist, meanwhile you feel they have shared their life and it's created an artificial bond for you. It's not real. What should you do?

Maybe do a bit of an Instagram detox? Might be getting a bit much, lines are being blurred maybe.

Dotty1111 · 06/03/2023 14:47

They already do, it's largely smart-casual office wear.

Theyve probably just decided to concentrate on their proper job then.

JuneBridie · 06/03/2023 14:51

Sounds like the beginning of a 99p kindle “psychological thriller with a shocking twist”.

Sakura7 · 06/03/2023 14:54

What exactly do you think you can do OP? Call the police? They'd laugh you out of the place.

I agree with a PP about a detox and working out why you're getting overly attached to a stranger online.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 06/03/2023 14:55

I’d give myself a slap and find my life.

StrawberryAnnie · 06/03/2023 14:59

What would you do if your hairdressers shut up shop, or a bakery you liked?

Would you be thinking about how you could contact the owners to ask if they are ok?

Online some people blur the line between friendships and business.

Influencers are selling content. The more followers they have, the more opportunities they have to make deals with companies.

Many have a very friendly online persona and interact with followers purely because it boosts their stats.

Very few people manage to make a full time career out of it.

slowquickstep · 06/03/2023 14:59

I think YABU to be a grown adult that believes in all this "influencer" crap
