To refuse to go to a hairdresser

I know everything has gone up significantly but £150 for a cut and colour? How do people even keep this up every 6 weeks? I think it’s extortionate. I realise you have to cover over heads but still feel like people ar evening massively exploited

Nobody is being exploited. I don't go to a hairdresser at all, never have done. It is possible to learn to do your own hair, choose cheaper options and so forth.

If a person wants expensive techniques, hair styles that require colour upkeep or a lot done to their hair to get a desired effect the ultimately that's a choice and a luxury, not an every day expense. Are people who want a more expensive design or technique done at the nail salon being exploited as well compared to those who do their nails at home? Clearly not.

I get my hair cut infrequently (no colour), for £25 at a university salon. If I wanted it blow dried it would be £32.

I'm shocked as some of you are paying close to £1000 per year on your hair Shock

If I had that much money spare id rather go on holiday for a week or another memorable experience personally.

I pay about 190 every 8 weeks and am happy with that. I'm not in a barber's for 15 mins. I live in the SE. Everything is more expensive here. I live with my hair on show every day and it is important to me to have it look right. I go on holidays as well.

Where I live hairdressers that charge that tend to be a locally owned chain of hairdressers, based in the city centre where the rent is high and they are seen as a "cool" place to go.

Try shopping around, look a smaller hairdressers in residential areas, local beauty college, mobile hair dressers.

Do you need to go every six weeks? I drag mine out to between 8 and 10 now as I can no longer afford every six weeks - or just get your roots done every six weeks but only get a cut every 12 weeks.

My salon (£150 for cut and full colour, less for cut and roots) has been going for about 30 years and I’ve been going to them about 20. They were in the city centre to begin with but not part of a chain. They relocated to a residential suburb a couple of years after I started going to them.

I’ve tried some of the big name city centre chains like Toni & Guy, Sassoon etc but never been happy with them. IMO they can rely on passing trade so not so worried about retaining custom.

It is.

How much do you earn an hour? I recon they are getting about £25 per hour after cost - products, chair fee or business cost etc. I know I want to earn at least that as a self employed business person to cover sporadic working hours (client cancels you loose wages), taxes, holidays, pension, sick pay etc.

I only go twice a year for colour when I cba. I dye my roots the rest of the year at home and my dh trims my hair into a very boring straight cut.
I can't afford it. If I could I'd love to go all the time but I can't. We have fairly high incomes but there is always something else that needs paying for unfortunately.

I did not say I begrudged them earning it.
