You've had a roast dinner at 2pm. Would you want to eat again before bed?

Big roast with all the trimmings - pork with crackling, 3 veg, Yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy, bread to dip ect.

Would you want anything before bed, apart from a cup or tea or two?

YABU - yes i'd want/need to eat again.
YANBU - nope, that would do me for the rest of the day.

Exactly this, but then I don't overindulge just because it's a roast.

I would probably have a bit of cheese and some crackers maybe 9ish if I had eaten at 2. Probably not another meal though.

So if you don’t eat anymore than any other meal, why don’t you need another normal meal?

WonderingWanda · 05/03/2023 17:50

I had a roast at 1pm today and I will be having cheese and crackers in a bit.

doadeer · 05/03/2023 17:50

Probably a slice of toast and some fruit. I wouldnt have a proper meal but I'd need a little something

Bluekerfuffle · 05/03/2023 17:51

Yes, of course, as that would have been lunch and I normally have lunch and dinner (or light supper if lunch is what I would normally have for dinner).

MissingMoominMamma · 05/03/2023 17:51

I’m always weirdly hungry after a roast dinner.

I usually have a sandwich later.

diddl · 05/03/2023 17:51

Probably not.

If I'm not hungry again by 6/7 I don't tend to bother.

Hebehouse · 05/03/2023 17:51

Usually we have smallish lunch - soup/toast/sandwich/ egg salad kind of thing. And a cooked dinner.
So if we cooked a big lunch we'd just swap and have sandwich or whatever for tea spend all afternoon snacking on leftovers

Strawberrydelight78 · 05/03/2023 17:51

If I was hungry I would more of a snack. A sandwich or poached eggs in toast.

OP if you know you're going to have a big dinner do you just skip lunch altogether?

I might if i was doing very little all day.

I'm not judging anyone either way here by the way Smile Not after a row even though it's AIBU.

I'm enjoying hearing all the different teas folk have. I did think there'd be more ''no i wouldn't want to eat again''s.

Most likely I would, nothing large but a snack. But I can defo pack away some food 😂

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 05/03/2023 17:52

Course not as I would have eaten the mumsnet chicken that would feed me for a month and I wouldn't eat for a week after a roast dinner.

In reality, hell yes I would eat again.

Fizbosshoes · 05/03/2023 17:53

I wouldn't cook again after a roast dinner at 2pm although my DC have sometimes requested but yes would definitely eat something else before bed, maybe some French bread, or doritoes and dips, probably about 8 or 9pm.

We normally have a roast dinner at 7.30 or 8pm though.

I've never heard of bread with a roast before either

Kranke · 05/03/2023 17:53

Well in that case, I can see how your not hungry after all the potatoes, yorkshires and bread you’ve had - I’d have probably been asleep by 4pm!

LadyVictoriaSponge · 05/03/2023 17:53

I’m rarely in bed before midnight or later so I would definitely eat again otherwise I would go about 10-11 hours without food.

red78hot · 05/03/2023 17:53

Fish finger butty I'd the Sunday night staple in our house, or crumpets.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 05/03/2023 17:54

Maybe some soup (half a tin) or some toast for supper.

On another note, why do you have bread 'for dipping' with a roast dinner? What do you dip it in? The gravy? Genuinely curious.

Lcb123 · 05/03/2023 17:54

I’d prob want some cheese and crackers on the evening

Notgotanyidea · 05/03/2023 17:54

We would usually have pudding at about 7, instead of after the meal. Probably fruit crumble and custard or something similar.

Grapefrui · 05/03/2023 17:47

No surprise that the women of MN are only eating a teeny, tiny roast. Probably only as big as the salad they normally have. They just couldn't eat any more.

Oh don't be daft, nobody is eating a 'teeny tiny roast' but neither is everybody piling their plate up with roasties like they'll never eat again, and that's fine.

stayathomer · 05/03/2023 17:54

I must be odd, I find myself full up for an hour or two after a roast, then famished in the evening. Same as I feel with takeaway!

maddiemookins16mum · 05/03/2023 17:54

We had a big dinner at 2pm, we’re off to Church tonight and have a choir practice after too so won’t be home until after 9pm. I’ve got some hot cross buns for us to eat then with a brew. Otherwise I’d be going over 18 hours without something to eat.

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/03/2023 17:55

TheChosenTwo · 05/03/2023 17:21

I’d not want to eat again but my dc would expect another proper meal.
We rarely have our main meal at lunchtime unless going out for Sunday lunch for an occasion etc, dhs roasts are legendary!

@TheChosenTwo

Let them expect! Sounds a huge meal based on what OP describes

CatNoBag · 05/03/2023 17:55

I wouldn't, and if I did possibly some basic toast and jam/pate/cheese. My DH would think and say he doesn't need anything, then around 8pm he'd be ravenous so we both end up eating again. He's stick thin, I'm podgy.

Laiste · 05/03/2023 17:37

<waves> at @00100001 fellow bread and gravy eater. (is it a London thing?)

We had 3 veg plus the roasties. It was broc, carrots and cauli.

Fairly sure it's a northern thing tbh

Stoic123 · 05/03/2023 17:56

Yes. Tomato soup, cheese & crackers, rarebit crumpet or scrambled egg on toast are all good in this slot.
