You've had a roast dinner at 2pm. Would you want to eat again before bed?

Big roast with all the trimmings - pork with crackling, 3 veg, Yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy, bread to dip ect.

Would you want anything before bed, apart from a cup or tea or two?

YABU - yes i'd want/need to eat again.
YANBU - nope, that would do me for the rest of the day.

yes but not another big meal. I'd have cheese.

WinterMusings · 05/03/2023 17:56

@Laiste sometimes yes, sometimes no.

as a vegetarian there wouldn't be mych
protein in that meal, so possibly, but vegetsrian low carbing is pretty difficult to eat a non meal, type thing. No bread, crackers, crumpets etc.

so probably some nuts/cheese/olives.

most days I only eat once though so time wise not a big deal.

Maybe some soup (half a tin) or some toast for supper.

On another note, why do you have bread 'for dipping' with a roast dinner? What do you dip it in? The gravy? Genuinely curious.

At the end of dinner - slice of white bread plonked onto plate and a bit more gravy poured on and spread around and press it to soak it up and ... yum 😄

We usually have cheese and crackers or pate on toast, crumpets type things after a roast if it was earlyish.

Riverlee · 05/03/2023 17:57

Yes, a sandwich or toast.

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/03/2023 17:57

@LadyVictoriaSponge

And??

bread after a roast is weird.
I would want supper, even if something light.

Not it's not

Two cups of tea and half a pack of chocolate hobnobs. Maybe any leftover roast potatoes but Sunday afternoons are for chilling and snacking!

Leftover roast potatoes? That’s a new one on me. I’ve never known there to be any left.

But that’s what the leftover Yorkshire puddings are for!

OP if you know you're going to have a big dinner do you just skip lunch altogether?

I might if i was doing very little all day.

I'm not judging anyone either way here by the way Smile Not after a row even though it's AIBU.

I'm enjoying hearing all the different teas folk have. I did think there'd be more ''no i wouldn't want to eat again''s.

Fair enough Laiste — I'd end up with a migraine if I did that; can't do with the snake/alligator style of eating, I'm more of an antelope or a cow 😅 I much prefer to eat a bit less at the big meal and have another, small meal, whichever way round that happens to be — though what I'm thinking of as a small meal, other posters are calling a snack, like sandwiches or eggs on toast.

mrsbyers · 05/03/2023 17:58

I’d probably have a snack for supper like some
cheese on toast

I wouldn't cook again after a roast dinner at 2pm although my DC have sometimes requested but yes would definitely eat something else before bed, maybe some French bread, or doritoes and dips, probably about 8 or 9pm.

We normally have a roast dinner at 7.30 or 8pm though.

I've never heard of bread with a roast before either

It's not with the roast. It's after the roast. To mop up the gravy with.

Bluekerfuffle · 05/03/2023 17:59

Missed the bit about bread. I have never heard of having bread with a roast either and it would probably be quite filling, but wouldn’t change my answer, I would still want something else to eat before the end of the day.

salamanderturtle · 05/03/2023 17:59

Yes - not a proper meal as such but maybe a slice of toast / couple of crumpets or cereal.

DistantSkye · 05/03/2023 17:59

Yeah definitely! But I wouldn't describe myself as a dainty eater. I'd not feel like cooking again so probably something like the cheese/crackers/olives or a sandwich, or soup as others have mentioned.

Even if I'd totally stuffed myself I genuinely don't think I could go all the way through to the next day without eating again. That'd be what, 16-18 hours with no food? I train at the gym or run most mornings, I'd not manage that on no food from 2pm the day before 😂😂

Anonymouseposter · 05/03/2023 17:59

I’d want a bit of toast or something in the evening

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/03/2023 18:00

Bluekerfuffle · 05/03/2023 17:51

Yes, of course, as that would have been lunch and I normally have lunch and dinner (or light supper if lunch is what I would normally have for dinner).

@Bluekerfuffle

that might be what you normally do but if you have a particularly calorific, filling meal at 2pm you don’t need a proper dinner later on

caringcarer · 05/03/2023 18:00

I'd want cheese and crackers at about 8.30pm.

HeidiWhole · 05/03/2023 18:01

No way would I be cooking again. Our roasts are usually bigger than other meals so I'd be having tea and biscuits at about 8, but couldn't eat another dinner as such. Kids would have cereal or something probably as they are older teens and sort themselves out.

Bunnycat101 · 05/03/2023 18:01

I’m in the ‘id want some crackers’ or something else small.

the bread thing sounds different- don’t think I could face a slice of bread after a roast. Id rather have another Yorkshire or potato.

Bluekerfuffle · 05/03/2023 18:01

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/03/2023 18:00

@Bluekerfuffle

Yes, that’s why I said if I had a big lunch (what I would normally have for dinner), I would have a small dinner (or supper).

mrsm43s · 05/03/2023 18:01

We would eat a cheeseboard later on in the evening after a late lunchtime roast. Maybe, but more rarely, also a pudding. It's like the second course of the meal, but delayed for a good few hours after the main course.

PickAChew · 05/03/2023 18:01

I'd definitely want a light meal, in the evening, but then I wouldn't blow out on the carbs with the lunch as I simply wouldn't fancy it, at that time of day.

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/03/2023 18:01

Eveyone saying they would want cheese and crackers later like it’s something tiny…
cheese is soooooo calorific! Why not a salad or tin of sardines!

twitterexile · 05/03/2023 18:02

Sorry OP I cannot get past the bread thing after a roast dinner...😱
