Also I’m still annoyed about test and trace and tests in general. When I think of the billions wasted I could cry - id rather have seen that go into schools etc

This country handed tests out like confetti which was totally wrong - yes for healthcare workers but you only needed to refer to the lunacy of posters on here stockpiling them and testing several times a day - absolute wasteful environment damaging madness

What a disgrace.

It’s a reason I’m giving my notice in soon. I can’t forget that when push came to shove many teachers in my school (not all of them) treated TAs like their health was worth less than their own just because we get paid less.

lazycats · 02/03/2023 10:25

Covid is something I’m uncharacteristically sympathetic to the tories about. They were making it up as they went along, but so was the whole world.

Maybe the inquiry will reveal huge foreseeable failings and I’ll change my mind, but for now I’ll just settle for thinking there terrible for absolutely everything else.

I can understand why you are doing so.

I think that is a view prevalent in our country. Transport staff were completely disregarded. Lots of Transport for London staff were at higher risk due to having to work throughout and being from minority groups. They were coughed over and spat at. Nobody cared and they rarely made the headlines.

I really hope we get a new government that treats all low-paid workers better. In schools, hospitals, other public services and transport, retail etc.

Can I just point out that

A - That's not even WhatsApp Font and bears a striking resemblance to the font of a well known message-faking app I may or may not have used in the past....

&

B - It is so so very easy to fake WhatsApp messages, even without an app.

Gav has admitted it.

I never said that I would not go into work. Which is what I saw teachers clearly saying.

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/18/nhs-frontline-staff-may-refuse-to-work-over-lack-of-coronavirus-ppe-says-union-unison

And here are NHS unions saying that NHS staff may refuse to work if no PPE.

Did you miss that?

No, no the rest of the world was not.
Other countries did it much better. So let’s not pretend that the Tories couldn’t have too.

Dizzydebbie88 · 02/03/2023 10:38

Despite Matt Hancock having one of the highest post in government he seems to totally lack common sense.

He allows himself to be caught snogging his aide at work - did he not realise there were CCTV cameras about? Or maybe he's a closet exhibitionist?

Then having resigned the Party Whip, he bunks off to Oz leaving his constituency bereft so he can eat beetles, and unmentionable body parts of animals, for dosh.

If that wasn't enough, he then writes his memoirs, featuring the Pandemic and trusts a journalist to help him, using hundreds of confidential Whatsapp messages. Surely he should be aware that some journalist would sell their soul to the Devil for a scoop?

However, in the interests of fair play I don't think "trial by media" is the answer.

And yes - economic mismanagement goes back further than lockdown. Even when this country was going through a boom under New Labour due to a global financial services boom we were just spending spending spending, racking up debt instead of saving for a rainy day.

The Tories' pitiful attempts at austerity post-2008 didn't come anywhere near close enough to get us back on track.

And then there was Covid.

How long did you all think we could just rest on our laurels for?

The chickens are coming home to roost. Welcome to the real world, teachers.

And another Tory bot. Admittedly it's quite clever this one, finding a way to blame 13 years of tory misgovernment on the Labour Party.

Wow. Some interesting mental gymnastics there. I'm sure you've got a great career in writing fairy stories.

For your information teachers see more of the real world....the hungry kids, the abused kids, the kids who come to school in outgrown clothes because their parents can't afford to replace their uniform....the kids who know that there is no point in working hard because they will never earn enough for a half decent life because their parents can't afford to give them help.

This thread is about teachers. There were shit NHS staff too. There were some who worked at home in Easter 2020 who told me it was ‘bliss’ as they weren’t doing phone appts yet. That was shit. And when NHS unions said staff shouldn’t work, that was shit too. Never had my support.

Ah right, so you think it is a virtue to not complain that you don't have basic health and safety equipment to do your job and you think that it is shit when other people do complain.

That makes you a mug.

@borntobequiet kids had to wear masks in schools because Westminster didn’t want a row with Nicola sturgeon. There were different restrictions in the different countries. Post viral fatigue syndrome has been around forever and I’d deeply question the many cases of “long covid”.

I sincerely hope you aren't a doctor and know you aren't a virologist or epidemiologist. You have shown your true colours there in your comment on Long Covid.

The 'row with NS' is a very selective way of interpreting the mask debate which the leaked Whatsapps don't actually say, if you would like to read them -and only centred on mask sin corridors. But, yes, it could appear all the English decision were made politically and based, it seems, on fear of Scotland.

Ok, let me rephrase, the Tories in government (recent past and present). They've time after time over the last 5-10 years shown what they are made of. I would say that these messages are pretty tame compared to some of their antics.

The Tories historically were quite a broad church, but the ones who've been at the forefront in the last few years aren't much of a spectrum. Johnson deliberately booted out most of the ones who were competent and stroppy enough to be a threat, and the headbangers have had more of the wheel than they usually do over the past few years.

Some organisations have toxic cultures. The Tories are a group of people who are together due to shared and agreed politics and ideologies. They are not representative of a wide spectrum of ideas and opinions.

Also, saying something twice and using "Again" a standalone sentence doesn't make it true.

Vegrocks · 02/03/2023 11:11

I don’t see “the tories” are one evil being. Some twats. Some out of their depth. Some good ones. Some great ones

well it does when you make a different point and I say my view is still the same. Absolutely true. And I can say that confidently. Because it’s my view 😆

MisschiefMaker · 02/03/2023 11:20

@coeurnoir Well I must be a funny sort of Tory bot given my criticisms of the tories in this thread and even in the post you quoted!

I hold Labour accountable for their mistakes, and the Tories accountable for theirs. But, more than anything, I hold voters accountable for repeatedly supporting successive governments in their overspending. They wouldn't have done it if it weren't for the fact we enabled it. And now those same people who were happy to run this county into the ground are moaning that we don't have enough to go around.

whynotwhatknot · 02/03/2023 11:23

i thought we were loving hancock is that not the case now

anyway hes a tosser always has been

chaosmaker · 02/03/2023 11:40

I support everyone striking for better conditions, funding and pay. I have no time for the pointless charlatans currently in charge and given successive governments am firmly of the belief that those who seek power should never, never be given it and that those who are groomed in private schools for positions of power should be disqualified from ever taking them. The nepotism is unbelievable and those of us actually running the country (all those services and essential businesses during shutdown that couldn't be mothballed) should get the financial compensation we deserve.

Everanewbie · 02/03/2023 11:42

Well at the time the teaching unions did appear to be finding every excuse to avoid having children back in the classroom. It must have been very frustrating for people who were keen to ensure that what could be salvaged of an education from the shit show of school closures and home learning.

But to be fair to them, the message put out was that COVID was a killer and that anyone could end up on a ventilator, it was too dangerous to sit on a park bench and so on, when these leaks now show that the government new that the risk to under 65s was negligible.
