I'm a childminder and today was quick tea day for mindees aged 2 - 6. Had a frozen Goodfellas pizza from Asda. Was cutting it up for the little ones and being greedy I ate a few pieces too. Good job I did. It immediately tasted weird and chemical like. I ate 3 mouthfuls in total then my throat and tongue started burning. Not horrendous but not pleasant! I've still got a sore throat now. I've obviously not served it and will contact Asda but suspect they'll just refund. I've had to give the poor kids a lesser meal and what if i hadn't have eaten it? Definitely hasn't come from my oven or worktop.

I can only think of toast? Maybe toast and ketchup!? Dd ate this for about a year and a half so it’s a thing 😂

You are lucky!

My DS liked bread. Just bread. Plain, unbuttered, unmarged, unjammed bog-standard shop-bought white cotton-wool-in-a-wrapper bread.

He would rush in to the kitchen and then out into the street again clutching his bread which he would then devour avidly. To him it was a treat. To me it was a bliddy embarrassment!

Fortunately most of the other mothers in the street had been subjected to similar man-shaming experiences and didn't judge me.

Pizza isn’t processed crap. It’s bread, tomato sauce and cheese FFS.

Exactly! And kids will eat it with relish.

I'm sure OP doesn't feed them pizza every day - there's nothing wrong with it every now and then.

Right so applying FlatWhites logic you’d serve it for every meal? As you couldn’t otherwise prepare food and look after the kids..:

Thank you; I did feel lucky! I love the image of him with his bread though 😄 dd1 still goes into pizza express now at 12.5yo and has…. Plain pasta.

the poor server is like “no butterrrrr? No sauce!? No nothinnnn?” She’s a lovely Italian girl and dd’s plain pasta makes her really quite sad 😅

I’m not the one who suggested it wasn’t possible to both supervise the children and provide adequate nutrition.

thaegumathteth · 02/03/2023 09:59

Guess what? I've never used childcare. Why does anyone need to use childcare? I don't so can't understand why anyone does. Highest rates paid or not. Abhorrent.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 02/03/2023 10:00

Asda Frozen pizza. Classy. I bet the parents are just thrilled you serve their kids such a nutritious meal.

You fed the toxic pizza to your husband?

'Fed' him?! In what way did she "feed" her husband?!?! He's not a child ffs

@TheGirlWhoLived

it is a lot more hassle, don’t be silly

😂 it’s just as much more hassle than the length of time it took to list all of the ingredients instead of typing ‘frozen pizza’

NotAnotherBathBomb · 02/03/2023 11:18

EmmaDilemma5 · 01/03/2023 18:36

There's a lot of posters with low expectations of childcare.

We pay some of the highest rates for childcare. My childminder regularly has 3 toddlers, that's £65x3 she earns a day. £195! And people are happy that she shoves a cheap, nutritionally poor dinner in for the kids? And when she can't serve that, she hasn't got a good back up?

No frozen jackets. No pasta. Nothing better than a single frozen pizza?

That's crap.

In any other profession, you expect good service every single day. OP - raise your standards.

'Highest rates' lol childminders are cheaper than nannies and nurseries

This thread is hilarious.

I gave my kids frozen pizzas for tea this eve. With nothing on the side except more pizza. In front of the telly. And I wasn't even working today, I was just knackered (because life) and couldn't be bothered cooking. I cooked a meat and two veg meal yesterday and probably will tomorrow.

In the words of Greta Thunberg, 'how dare you'

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/03/2023 21:09

Frozen pizza isn’t part of that. I’m not anti quick, easy and cheap. Scrambled egg, omelette, beans on toast, Welsh rarebit, fish fingers, fine, frozen pizza, no, not really.

Blimey, what IS it that the pearl clutchers have against frozen pizza?! I can't see that Welsh rarebit is that different to pizza, it's just bread with cheese after all.

This thread demonstrates why there is a shortage of decent childminders. It's because the decent ones wouldn't stand for this shit from parents. Such moaning over trivia. Get a nanny if you want such prescribed behaviour from someone who looks after your child. I'd pick a childminder over a nursery because I want a home from home environment. Sometimes, in MY home, I served frozen pizza because the day demanded that that was the most sensible option eg one of them was not well and I prioritised giving cuddles over standing cooking, or we'd been out the whole day doing fun outdoor activities, or been swimming or to the museum or library. Sometimes we got so wrapped in something eg setting up a huuuge train track and then playing with it, that time ran away, it was getting late, and I viewed a throw in the oven tea as perfectly acceptable.

Childminders these days are being scrutinised more and more, and Ofsted seem to think they are akin to nurseries. For many childminders it's getting so the hassle is just not worth it. I could never be one because of that - I was a perfectly good and engaged mother whose kids turned out to be lovely young, polite, hard working and intelligent young men who are still close to us as late teens. For the life of me I cannot think what feeding them frozen pizza every now and again has done that has been detrimental to their lives. Please can someone explain.

This thread is the perfect example of people expecting luxury yacht service on a cruise ship budget

The CM hasn't said they get frozen pizza every day, it's fine

LuckySantangelo35 · 02/03/2023 12:22

SpecialK2023 · 02/03/2023 09:35

It’s not great is it? High levels of saturated fat and salt. It’s not a nutritious, balanced meal for a child, especially not a 2 year old. My point was that if a CM can’t be expected to prepare food as in your post, because they are looking after the kids - then the alternative is to serve processed food, so are you saying that’s to be expected? Processed food for each meal?

Whats hard about reheating a bolognese you’ve cooked before or slung in the slow cooker? I manage to supervise my kids AND feed them decent meals. Just requires some forethought. Yes I serve pizza too, but not whilst I’m providing a service.

@SpecialK2023

when do you think the childminder will have had time to make a spag Bol that she can reheat??
she ain’t gonna do it in her time off is she or do you expect that?

Well this was my point above - are we therefore saying that processed food is to be expected and the only option. I don’t need to revisit but didn’t get an answer from the other poster who made an almost identical comment to the one you’ve just made.

thaegumathteth · 02/03/2023 14:29

@LuckySantangelo35 you have somewhat missed my point

RedRiverShore3 · 02/03/2023 18:28

MN is just full of competitive nutrition and who can cook the most from scratch, it gets a bit boring after a while, thread has been totally derailed.

TheGirlWhoLived · 02/03/2023 21:10

Maybe it hasn’t been derailed @RedRiverShore3 maybe the pizza was TELLING the op to not serve itself to the children because it is unhealthy. That’s why it tasted like chemicals

Fromwetome · 02/03/2023 22:06

@EmmaDilemma5

Post the caloric and nutritional difference between a jacket spud. Pasta or pizza.

There is negligible difference. Get a grip you melt.
