I'm a childminder and today was quick tea day for mindees aged 2 - 6. Had a frozen Goodfellas pizza from Asda. Was cutting it up for the little ones and being greedy I ate a few pieces too. Good job I did. It immediately tasted weird and chemical like. I ate 3 mouthfuls in total then my throat and tongue started burning. Not horrendous but not pleasant! I've still got a sore throat now. I've obviously not served it and will contact Asda but suspect they'll just refund. I've had to give the poor kids a lesser meal and what if i hadn't have eaten it? Definitely hasn't come from my oven or worktop.

Not the point but lesser than a frozen pizza?

This was my first thought too 🤣

RedRiverShore3 · 01/03/2023 21:03

Hope you are OK now OP, could it have been an allergic reaction at all

PressureLikeADripDripDrip · 01/03/2023 21:08

Wish my eight year old would eat frozen pizza. But nooooo

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/03/2023 21:09

Frozen pizza isn’t part of that. I’m not anti quick, easy and cheap. Scrambled egg, omelette, beans on toast, Welsh rarebit, fish fingers, fine, frozen pizza, no, not really.

Blimey, what IS it that the pearl clutchers have against frozen pizza?! I can't see that Welsh rarebit is that different to pizza, it's just bread with cheese after all.

This thread demonstrates why there is a shortage of decent childminders. It's because the decent ones wouldn't stand for this shit from parents. Such moaning over trivia. Get a nanny if you want such prescribed behaviour from someone who looks after your child. I'd pick a childminder over a nursery because I want a home from home environment. Sometimes, in MY home, I served frozen pizza because the day demanded that that was the most sensible option eg one of them was not well and I prioritised giving cuddles over standing cooking, or we'd been out the whole day doing fun outdoor activities, or been swimming or to the museum or library. Sometimes we got so wrapped in something eg setting up a huuuge train track and then playing with it, that time ran away, it was getting late, and I viewed a throw in the oven tea as perfectly acceptable.

Childminders these days are being scrutinised more and more, and Ofsted seem to think they are akin to nurseries. For many childminders it's getting so the hassle is just not worth it. I could never be one because of that - I was a perfectly good and engaged mother whose kids turned out to be lovely young, polite, hard working and intelligent young men who are still close to us as late teens. For the life of me I cannot think what feeding them frozen pizza every now and again has done that has been detrimental to their lives. Please can someone explain.

This was my first thought too 🤣

Really? Someone posts about a possible allergic reaction or food contamination and your first thought is smug superiority?

TropicalSun72 · 01/03/2023 21:17

Oh my word just caught up with the comments.... wow 😂
That's me told. Clearly I'm the worst cm in the world. Feed the kids shite and earn a fortune for doing so. And posted this whilst working. And mislead all my parents who don't have a clue what I'm giving their children!
Hahaha I bet some of them are on here who will recognise this is me....hi if you are 🤣
Anyhow just to clarify, it's not an allergic reaction, my husband ate it too and said the same. BTW I ate 3 tiny pieces not 3 slices! I haven't cleaned the oven with any products recently nor did I leave any packaging on.
I also work with said husband who was doing the later finish so shock horror I wasn't on my phone at the same time as looking after the poor ill fed mindees.
But I shall consider myself suitably chastised and never ever dare to serve a quick meal again. After all I earn so much what was I thinking?

The horror over a frozen pizza Grin

I stopped providing food due to whinging parents. Now children come with lunch boxes full of absolute crap instead.

BadNomad · 01/03/2023 21:18

Someone experienced a possible allergic reaction or food contamination and their first thought was not to seek medical advice but to post about the FROZEN PIZZA on MN. 🙄

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 01/03/2023 21:20

The outrage about frozen pizza is hilarious 😅 Where do you guys find all these kids who enjoy the nutritious stuff? My DSD has a proper foodie Mum who’s a great cook and my DH is very into the nutritional value of food and cooks really interesting healthy meals. DSD has about 6 things she eats on a rotation, one of which is frozen pizza and another is McDonald’s nuggets😂 We’re hoping she outgrows these preferences! Plenty kids are fussy, have sensory issues a rounded eating, only tolerate certain flavours and textures, etc. You can do your very best to get your kids to eat healthy, nutritious meals and still fail miserably 😅

LadyNellCardross · 01/03/2023 21:23

This thread is utterly bonkers. The poor OP getting savaged over a pizza. No wonder so many childminders are chucking it.

BadNomad · 01/03/2023 21:25

You fed the toxic pizza to your husband?

ReneBumsWombats · 01/03/2023 21:27

Strawberrysosweet · 01/03/2023 20:46

The thing is that every time there’s a nursery vs childminder thread on here a lot of CMs get very defensive and say that they are professionals, have to adhere to EY standards etc. which is true.

Frozen pizza isn’t part of that. I’m not anti quick, easy and cheap. Scrambled egg, omelette, beans on toast, Welsh rarebit, fish fingers, fine, frozen pizza, no, not really.

How are fish fingers better than a frozen pizza?

How is Welsh rarebit so different? It's cheese on toast with mustard, which surely isn't good for small children. At least pizza has some vegetable matter in the tomato sauce.

Can I just say, how you speak about the mother of your step daughter is just lovely.

Your stepdaughter is very lucky to have such a great team of parents.

AbsoluteYawns · 01/03/2023 21:30

OP you're getting a rough time on here which is OTT.

Let us know the outcome. Sounds so weird what could be in a simple pizza! It's made me think ill also try my kid's food before they eat it!

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 01/03/2023 21:42

@GrinAndVomit that’s nice to say! We’re a bit odd by most peoples standards, all 4 parents/stepparents get on really well 🤗

Keep being amazing 🍕

Lol at the sanctimonious Pearl clutching over a frozen bloody pizza 😂
OP, I bet the kids you mind think you’re the absolute BEST 🍕 ❤️
Hope you get to the bottom of it!

Bet you posted this from your second home in the Maldives, too - I expect you flew there in your private jet, sipping champagne to take the metallic taste away!

You should be ashamed! 😂

lborgia · 01/03/2023 21:55

I can't cope with reading all the aghast posts, so apologies if I've duplicated another -

If I'm not too late, fgs don't hand over the food/packaging to the supermarket. Give it to the council/ officer.

I once opened a tub of Nutella, where the sealing paper was torn, with a couple of shards of glass in the top. They of course snatched it away and gave me a new tub and a £20 voucher, which was huge at the time.

Of course they didn't follow it up, and said I was mistaken and it was just crystallised sugar.

Sure that wouldn't happen now, and I looked about 14 at the time, but just be warned...

Dibbydoos · 01/03/2023 21:55

I have had two like this on two separate occasions from Co op. It tasted really mouldy to me when I tried it after my son complained of it tasting weird. It isn’t every pizza though because I bought two both times and each time only one tasted bad. I think you need to report this!

RedRiverShore3 · 01/03/2023 22:02

It will be the pizza manufacturer, Asda just stocked and sold it. Goodfellas is the one who need to investigate this as the pizza is theirs so I would definitely bypass Asda. It's either Goodfellas or EH/council

Axahooxa · 01/03/2023 22:03

Frozen pizza is just pizza.
It’s essentially the same as a mozzarella and tomato sandwich and contains some decent nutrition. It’s ignorant to suggest otherwise.

OP- I’d much prefer my childminder to be playing with my children than spending ages preparing food. You sound great.
