The reaction to this non-incident is shameful. We're effectively charging this poor autistic boy with blasphemy and his mother is begging for his life.

Perhaps we as tax payers should have a demonstration to get shut of Usman Ali and his ilk - Free West Yorkshire - stand up and be counted.

BethDuttonsTwin · 02/03/2023 11:15

I agree with you OP. The clear relief from some that you can be written off as no more than an Islamophobe/bigot because you posted one thread discussing similar matters is laughable. But it’s also manipulative and cowardly too because those doing it are able now to avoid actually having to discuss the meat of this situation.

That woman is terrified for her son. She knows that there is a possibility he could be beheaded in the street for this. We know this because we have seen it several times. I don’t blame her, I would have done the same, all mothers would. How is this in any way acceptable? We have made a rod of steel for our own backs, with the best of intentions - acceptance, respect, inclusivity and it’s going to get worse. We all know this even when we pretend that we don’t like so many on this thread. An AUTISTIC child had received death threats, when do we say enough? When do we push back and stop placating, minimising, ignoring? When a child is actually killed? Because make no mistake, we are headed there and it could be a child from either side. I’m terrified for all of us including the moderate Muslims who are aghast at this and ALSO going along with it through fear of the radicals in their own communities.

Excellent post!

This is the statement from Usman Ali one of the so called "community leaders"

"After todays events at Kettlethorpe High School where a Quran has been desecrated are a serious provocative action which needs to be dealt with urgently by all the authorities, namely, the police, the school and the local authority.

This terrible action could destroy all the good progress that has been made in Wakefied to highlight and tackle islamaphobia.

I have been in contact with local leaders to ensure that swift and appropriate action is taken to deal with this grace situation. We all need to work together to make sure that this terrible provocation does not set back community relations for years to come."

I mean he could have acted like a sane reasonable man and issues something along the lines of

”unfortunately a vulnerable child has scuffed the edges of a copy of the Quran. Whilst some in our community might find this upsetting, we must remember Islam is a religion of peace and love and we must extend this attitude to this child. To espouse any type of conversation around retribution would be counter to the ideals of Islam”. - could have said that but as usual that wasn’t the narrative

what he said was provocation in itself, relying up the Muslim community saying any retribution would be justified because an autistic child had been provoked using the Islamophobia card.

Why don’t moderate Muslims weed out these people in their communities and stand up to them? They need to reform the Muslim community and what certain leaders are saying.

What an absolute cunt!!!

frustratednomad · 02/03/2023 11:37

It's very frightening what we are allowing to happen in this country, everyone of every religion needs to stand up against this.

He should be immediately sacked, but he won’t be.

Well said. Especially the last sentence…

You would immediately be dismissed by the media as ‘far right’ and charged by the police with a hate crime.

Free West Yorkshire....yeah that doesn't sound far right at all

People are rightly concerned about the actions of officials who are paid from the public purse. They have a right to expect to be protected from death threats. Isn’t that what the police are for?

What evidence have you got that the police haven't assessed the death threats? They assess them as a matter of course though of course it's an every growing mountain.

Are you aware that many Muslims routinely receive death threats?

The ridiculous statements on here like "crying mother begging for her child's life" only fuel the fire and from some on here intentionally.

User8646382 · 02/03/2023 12:45

The article linked to above clearly states that the ‘child’ who made the death threat was given ‘advice’ by the police.

The other child was charged with a hate crime.

Please don’t try to defend the indefensible. People are not stupid.

The only “ridiculous” statement that has been made has been made by that vile excuse of a community leader who has been stirring up hatred rather than trying to calm the situation. He deserves to be sacked

Our taxes go towards school equipment so students can just throw perfectly readable books in the bin if they're no interest to them.
Perhaps she was reported for that action rather than disrespect for religion? Im not religious either, but some students might be and could have used it instead. Did you consider that?

Do you think the police would've been involved if they'd damaged a dictionary?
