That every one has forgotten they all hated Camilla?

I'm very puzzled why no one talks about how hated Camilla was the 80s/90s?? The tabloids absolutely tore her apart. But now she is 'Queen' and we have all conveniently forgotten. I have no personal interest in the royal family, I'm just perplexed.

I'm.old enough to have been early 20s when Diana died.
I don't think public opinion has changed, it's a lot like it ever was - it's just the media put out a positive or negative spin on people depending on who they want to big up/tear down and it's been in Camilla's favour with some papers for years.

LovedmyRaleighChopper · 27/02/2023 23:56

I disliked her immensely for many years. My feelings are a lot more ambivalent now but I’m pretty certain I’d never curtsy to her should I ever meet her ( unlikely). We were told she would be titled Queen Consort and it annoys me every time I hear her referred to as the Queen. She’s dead. They’ve been very careful to keep a low profile, that’s definitely helped their rehabilitation.

I never liked her and still don't! Given Diana was only 17 when our King started making moves on her I can't understand any mother not disliking him nor Camilla. I'd be devastated if my 20 year-old married someone who wanted someone else all along.

Agree, and same!

She is the Queen Consort. She is also the Queen. And she's not dead.

Don't get mad because you didn't understand the process.

CremeEggQueen · 27/02/2023 23:57

Agree as in would not be happy if my 20 year old was in that position

clairelip · 28/02/2023 00:05

Diana was a human being not a saint ( had first affair, often calling press herself) she was however treated terribly by her own fame hungry family and I have huge sympathy for the young Diana but she did things wrong as well.
I've always liked Camilla she must really love Charles to put up with the crap the press threw at her. I'm happy to call her queen and wish them both the best. I've always thought if I was in a disaster/bombing ect better Charles/Ann ect than the latest idiot prime minister visiting you in hospital

Btjdkfnn · 28/02/2023 00:08

It's more than 30 years since C&D divorced. There are loads of people too young to remember it. I remember it as my biology teacher blurted it out during a GCSE practical!

CremeEggQueen · 28/02/2023 00:08

had first affair
Not surprised if so, can't say I blame her - if she knew her husband really wanted to be with someone else, I'd probably be the same

RandomNameUser54321 · 28/02/2023 00:11

Meh. Someone was unfaithful 40 years ago? Who cares. Life moves on. Half of us weren’t even born yet.

KalvinPhillipsBoots · 28/02/2023 00:14

She is not my Queen and never will be.

I've no time for Camilla, she's got no moral code.
I think Charles is a dim, entitled weasel who destroyed the life of a 19yo satisfy his 'obligations'.

I think Diana was a sacrificial lamb who became a media-savvy manipulator who played a game it's impossible to win. I didn't like her either.

Agree with this and would add that Charles has no moral code either

She is not my Queen and never will be.

That's not up to you. If you're a Brit, she's your Queen. It's not something you can control.

The real question is why you give a shit?

Whenharrymetsmelly · 28/02/2023 00:19

I never hated her, thought the whole thing was quite depressing actually for all (3) concerned. I'm happy Charles and Camilla ended up together in the end. Sad for Diana that she never found the same happiness

GoodChat · 28/02/2023 00:19

Maybe people who 'hated' someone they don't know 40 years ago managed to grow up.

The journalists who spread that hate are probably dead or close to it now.

Society has evolved.

They've been replaced. Look at Harry and Meghan.

It's all very convenient for the establishment that the British people have amnesia

Nonsense. I am early 40s, everyone from my age and up has a very clear memory of Diana’s death and the years immediately after that were brutal in terms of camilla’s reputation. There was no major upset when they married in the early 2000s though, people accept that people have affairs, they are arseholes but everyone has to move on some time. I don’t know what you expect. FYI I am not a monarchist.

It also seemed pretty abusive. He was about 12 years older than her. Camila even older. Dragging Diana into their relationship, who was barely more than a child, whilst carrying on his relationship with Camila, was deeply unpleasant, manipulative and abusive behaviour. Seems to run in the family really.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/02/2023 00:28

Just start a thread referring to her as the Queen and you'll soon get all the haters out. But more importantly, WHY would people want to start threads about how hated she was 30 odd years ago? What's the point? If they hate her NOW fake enough, start a thread. But it's bizarre to think people should have to hark back to their past just to go on about how much they disliked someone

It's called moving on, not living in the past. Imagine if every time some one mentioned you or talked to you they bright up everything you did in the past?

Excellent point. Ancient history, move on. It's not like she murdered anyone

WombsofWimbledon · 28/02/2023 00:54

I don't hate her, or any of the royal family really, they're all flawed in different ways, just like everyone else - only they are more visibly and obviously so, given their strange lives and platform.

But your amnesia comment - that's just weird. The British public aren't some Borg like thing. A 70's style every-nan outside Asda in a brown raincoat and plastic hair cover chanting 'We hate Camilla. It's for the greater good.'

You talk about 'hating' as though it's a hobby that you better make sure you're keeping up with. Maybe a spreadsheet to make sure I haven't forgotten who I'm supposed to actively hate, given my inclusion in the 'British Public.'

WombsofWimbledon · 28/02/2023 00:55

Oh and also - I suppose if someone's got to be married to Charles then good on her for taking on the task😂

mynamesnotMa · 28/02/2023 00:58

Definitely don't hate her.
Wasn't a fan of Diana found it strange how people fawned over her.
Charles is an awkward bugger so Camilla puts up with alot.

Tinypetunia · 28/02/2023 01:05

I never hated her - I never knew her.
