That every one has forgotten they all hated Camilla?

I'm very puzzled why no one talks about how hated Camilla was the 80s/90s?? The tabloids absolutely tore her apart. But now she is 'Queen' and we have all conveniently forgotten. I have no personal interest in the royal family, I'm just perplexed.

I never hated her. Charles is the one who cheated on saint Diana (who I always found a bit irritating).

x2boys · 27/02/2023 22:30

They did but now everyone hates Meghan ,this is what the the tabloids do
Diana wasn't the saint she is now until her untimely death i. quite like Camilla she,s inoffensive I think had Diana lived she would probably have moved away or calmed down ,everybody hated Sarah Ferguson in the 80,s but nobody cares now

EmmiJay · 27/02/2023 22:30

I don't hate her but I don't ✨️like✨️ her. Something about her (and him tbh) that rubs me up the wrong way.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 27/02/2023 22:32

There was an article about this in the Guardian on Saturday. It was basically saying she's had a very good PR team that have been hard at work on her image since she married Charles.
I'm old enough to remember her (alleged) bitchy comments about Diana and nasty treatment of her, and I'm not someone who thinks Diana was a saint. But she was shamefully treated by both Charles and Camilla. So any dislike of Camilla is not without foundation. But yes, feelings mellow over time.

Binjob118 · 27/02/2023 22:33

It's all very convenient for the establishment that the British people have amnesia

She makes Charles happy. They should have married each other at the beginning and saved a lot of heartbreak . Camilla has worked hard to redeem herself, she took a hideous amount of shit and never complained ( publicly, at least)
She always comes across as good humoured and it's rumoured she likes a drink and a fag, although I believe she gave up smoking because Charles hates it
Camilla has been a big champion of women's rights and is heavily involved in highlighting domestic violence x

maddy68 · 27/02/2023 22:35

I always liked her

JemimaTiggywinkles · 27/02/2023 22:36

I was too young to remember any of the furore. But from a hindsight perspective- Diana was badly treated. Camilla was also badly treated. In both cases the press were horrific because they were women who didn't fit with stereotypical expectations of a princess. Pitting woman against woman is a patriarchal game I'm not interested in playing.

Charles and Camilla have seemed happy together for two decades. I don't think it is reasonable to hold their distant past against them.

Sillybanana · 27/02/2023 22:36

I haven’t forgotten. She was quite awful, and behaved so selfishly.

MeinKraft · 27/02/2023 22:36

You can't just go hating people forever, especially if it's someone you've never met who has never done you any wrong. William and Harry seem ok with her (well as much as Harry is ok with anyone) so not sure why anyone else would keep holding a grudge.

LavenderHillMob · 27/02/2023 22:36

Different people had different views. My parents didn't think Charles & Diana should have married due to the age gap.

OTOH My 95 year old Welsh Rugby loving great Aunt, thought Diana was a floozy for taking up with "that nice Will Carling".

Diana was right that the marriage was crowded, but it wasn't only Camilla at fault.

Crumpleton · 27/02/2023 22:38

Hellocatshome · 27/02/2023 22:17

If it helps I have never hated her.

This...
I didn't even know her, so would be wrong to say I didn't like her.

LakeTiticaca · 27/02/2023 22:39

@LavenderHillMob "that nice Will Carling" wasn't so nice after all. Cheated on his missus then dumped his next partner and their baby son 😡

user1492757084 · 27/02/2023 22:39

I never hated Camilla. I love her voice and appreciate the exposure she gives many organisations which support women's health and safety and her love of animals.
Queen Consort she should be and to be called Queen Camilla is normal.

Kinneddar · 27/02/2023 22:40

I've never hated her.
I don't know any personally who did.

I never understood the hatred. Yes she was instrumental in C&D marriage ending bit all the people so.indignant on Diana's behalf seem to overlook the fact she was the OW in several marriages.

It's all very convenient for the establishment that the British people have amnesia

It's not amnesia. C&D split up 30 years ago!!! C&C have been married almost 20.
It's no longer a big deal & over that time people's opinions have changed & a lot of folk just really don't care. They seem to make each other happy.

DramaAlpaca · 27/02/2023 22:41

When Diana was alive I didn't like Camilla. Over the years, however, I've changed my mind about her and I now think she's great.

Shmithecat2 · 27/02/2023 22:42

I never hated her. I quite like her 🤷‍♀️

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 27/02/2023 22:44

I've no time for Camilla, she's got no moral code.
I think Charles is a dim, entitled weasel who destroyed the life of a 19yo satisfy his 'obligations'.

I think Diana was a sacrificial lamb who became a media-savvy manipulator who played a game it's impossible to win. I didn't like her either.

CandleInTheStorm · 27/02/2023 22:44

I feel sorry for them tbh. They had the misfortune to be born in an era where they were clearly compatible from the start, but he couldn't marry her because she was a divorcee. So he ended up having to marry a woman he clearly wasn't attached to beyond a "fond of" kind of way, all because she was a young virgin who could give them the heir and spare. It was also "common" for men in powerful positions to have a mistress, not saying it's ever right, but it was the norm and getting divorced then was unthinkable for the future king to do.

He got to marry the woman he clearly wanted right from the start.

Timesawastin · 27/02/2023 22:45

Addymontgomeryfan · 27/02/2023 22:16

The tabloids hated Camilla because they were painting Diana as a saint.

This. I always liked Camilla just fine.

ilovesooty · 27/02/2023 22:46

Hellocatshome · 27/02/2023 22:17

If it helps I have never hated her.

I haven't either. I've no real time for the RF but I don't get you all hated Camilla

Shanksponyorbust · 27/02/2023 22:54

I like Camilla, she seems to have a good head on her and a wicked sense of humour. Typical journos trying to stir up ill feeling in the pursuit of clicks.

In an ideal world Charles and Camilla would have been together from the start. Life isn’t ideal, but they’ve now been married for 20 years!

I do question Diana’s judgement in confiding her insecurities and paranoia to her then young sons. Didn’t do the youngest in particular any favours that.

Ultimately we all try to be the best we can be but we all make mistakes.

GPFavo · 27/02/2023 22:58

Hellocatshome · 27/02/2023 22:17

If it helps I have never hated her.

This. I’m 27, I never hated her.

Jux · 27/02/2023 22:59

I didn't hate her, I liked her. I like her now too. Best member of that family in my view.

Despised the Sainted One.

Runnerduck34 · 27/02/2023 23:04

Her image has been transformed but tbf, both her and Charles were unfaithful and Charles was responsible for using Diana and marrying her despite not being in love with her. Although I accept he was under immense pressure to marry. Diana may not have been a saint but she didn't enter marriage whilst in love with someone else , she was very young and naive. Charles was first to break the marriage vows.
So I don't think either Charles or camilla behaved with integrity or honour.
However, they clearly love and respect each other and are a good match. Camilla works hard for charities and including ones that support victims of domestic violence and as Charles wife she becomes queen.
I haven't forgotten but tbh never " hated" camilla, her and Charles are irrelevant to my life but I do think she has managed to transform her image very successfully but playing the long game, working hard and never complaining.
