Does anyone remember coloured toilet paper? Any other random disappearances?

Imsobored22 · 26/02/2023 00:07

Just this really.

I have recollections of toilet paper being available in lilac, mint, peach, baby blue. My husband thinks in lying.

its now white. I’m not sure when the colours disappeared.

I'd love some lilac loo roll to brighten up the day. I realise that this is a non-problem but I’m bored and have had a glass of wine (or two).

Has anyone got any other random disappearances that cannot be explained?

This thread is making me think that coloured bathrooms may make a comeback. White sanitary ware and grey/beige marble is getting rather boring.

I am imagining the palest of pastel porcelain with white and matching pastel tiles in a chequerboard pattern. Palest Amber and Jade would work rather than the baby blues, pinks, yellows of our child3hoods. There was a time when almost everyone had the same bathroom tiles to match their suite. They were white but with a veined pattern in pink, blue or yellow through them.

Apologies for digressing.

I was having this discussion the other day as I was swooning over pictures of older pastel bathroom suites. I love the colours as everything has been white for so long. I remember different coloured rolls when young, my parents often bought lemon. Did people buy them to match their suite?

Burlington Bathrooms have recently released a new collection of coloured sanitary ware, so you can indulge your coloured suite fantasies.

I miss the coloured loo roll ! I could buy peach colour in Asda and Sainsbury's up until last year . I wouldn't ever buy coloured to match my bathroom, I just dislike white .

I used to love Body Shop Ice Blue shampoo. Disappeared years ago sadly

RedRiverShore3 · 26/02/2023 08:14

I liked it, you could still get peach Andrex until fairly recently on Amazon and a few other brands maybe still do peach. You used to be able to match it to your coloured towels.

We have a champagne toilet and sink in our downstairs toilet, I prefer it to our white bathroom one.

Tesco do a nice line of brightly coloured jumbo-sized kitchen roll. I alternate between the green and the red, but they do buttercup yellow as well. It's much admired by visitors.

Goodyetalso · 26/02/2023 08:16

I still miss Boots Natural collection and their shorter lived Global Collection too. They never seemed to replace them with anything so when you go to Boots there aren’t many scents of things to choose from - it’s all The Sanctuary or that over scented Soap and Glory stuff.

whatthebejesus · 26/02/2023 08:16

Oh yes! This was huge in the 80s and 90s when I was growing up.
We had peach and light pink. My auntie had blue.

RedRiverShore3 · 26/02/2023 08:17

Amazon does a cream one which would probably match my champagne toilet but it's scented which I don't think I would like

Tooth cleaner in flat round containers by Gibbs.

We used this when I was a kid. It was bright pink. And then they brought out a blue version. Oh the excitement!

"I must say that I take my hat off to Sainsbury's, they seem to attract a better class of person. I saw a vicar choosing toilet paper; he chose a four-roll pack of purple three-ply. He must have money to burn! He could have bought some shiny white and given the difference to the poor. What a hypocrite!"

Pressed too soon.

Ohhh that has dragged back some long forgotten memories from my childhood. I still buff my nails now as my Grandmother told me it was good for them and I seem to be blessed with naturally long and strong nails

The kitchen roll appears to be the same brand, 'Renova' as the cream toilet rolls on Amazon, maybe they have other colours for that also, unfortunately we only do online for Tesco as its not that local and you can't choose your colour for kitchen roll.

Camay and lux soap.
Ajax
Mum roll-on
A ladies razor whose components came apart to fit in a little plastic box. The razor blades came wrapped in flowery paper. They came in colours to match the coloured bathrooms.
Germolene - also matched a pink bathroom.

You can still get germolene thankfully, it's much better than savlon!

We used to have pink toilet roll to match the pink & grey bathroom!

FrenchFancie · 26/02/2023 08:32

Please don’t let brightly coloured bathroom suites come back in! We’re in rented at the moment with 2/3rds of an avocado bathroom suite from the first time around (and carpets in the bathroom, green tiles and badgers on the wallpaper…. It’s a sight to see!!)

(the toilet broke not long after we moved in and the landlord replaced it with the smallest, whitest toilet he could find…)

Pearsandclocks · 26/02/2023 08:33

Yes I always bought peach until they stopped making it. You used to be able to get patterned loo roll too.

Yes the body shop had great lines

Snowpatrolling · 26/02/2023 08:34

Oh my gosh I hadn’t even noticed you couldn’t get it any more!
that’s cos I only ever bought the white one, the coloured ones used to give me the heebie jeebies!!
just looked on Amazon to see and alas, no!!
my mum used to buy blue and pink loo roll!

110APiccadilly · 26/02/2023 08:36

My mother buying green loo roll to match the bathroom was a mark of the point where my parents started to feel financially secure (I was a teenager). I can remember my mum saying how nice it was to be able to splash out on it!

And L’Oréal kids - “coz we’re worth it too!”

Or when you put no more tears in your eyes, and surprise surprise there are lots of fucking tears.

Apparently the "no more tears" claim is referring to the detangling properties (no more tears while brushing) rather than getting it in your eye!

notbloodylikely · 26/02/2023 08:41

@Almostparadise I actually went in to the Body Shop to ask if they still sold the rice scrub about five years ago, the assistant was about 12 and had no idea what I was wittering on about of course.

BreatheAndFocus · 26/02/2023 08:45

Yep, I definitely remember the coloured loo roll! Pink, peach, blue, mint green and a primrose yellow is what I remember. I think they got rid of it because the dye could cause issues for some people.

Ajax! I was thinking about that the other night! (Yes, I have an exciting life 🤣). The only two cleaning products my mum had were Ajax and Jif. I used to ask her which of the two to use. Ajax was pretty powerful!

Those apricot scrub pads like Brillo pads for your face. Where did they go?

I used to love those, they were so bubbly!
