Does anyone remember coloured toilet paper? Any other random disappearances?

Just this really.

I have recollections of toilet paper being available in lilac, mint, peach, baby blue. My husband thinks in lying.

its now white. I’m not sure when the colours disappeared.

I'd love some lilac loo roll to brighten up the day. I realise that this is a non-problem but I’m bored and have had a glass of wine (or two).

Has anyone got any other random disappearances that cannot be explained?

I was having this discussion the other day as I was swooning over pictures of older pastel bathroom suites. I love the colours as everything has been white for so long. I remember different coloured rolls when young, my parents often bought lemon. Did people buy them to match their suite?

I do! It had a little label on that didn't come off as you used it
Witchcraft!!

@Backtorealitynow I still buy these you can get them from the local shops near me that sell Afro carribean and Asian products
they are still made just not sold as much over here now as people in Britain prefer chose gems whereas some areas abroad still like soap

Anyone remember the beer shampoo which in beer barrel shaped plastic bottle and those sachets of shampoo for single use.

It was called Linco beer or something like that. MyGran had Shield soap, it contained deoderant and was marbled green/white (like her tiles). Her clothes were scented with rose shaped soap which she put in her drawers.
Christmas stockings always contained bath pearls, they all had a simliar smell, also remember the bath salts in wrapped cubes.
And yes, coloured loo roll and Izal at junior school, I was often sore and had cystitis type issues as a child, wish I'd made the connection sooner. I've seen peach coloured paper recently in a corner shop and we had M&S with printed reindeer once for a laugh.
My Gran (again!) Used to buy a coffee and Chicory extract called Camp, she only used it to make coffee cake though.

oh god.im your gran! still have shield soap
and camp coffee is the ONLY way to make the best coffee cakes!

I remember the coloured cotton wool balls too. Turquoise, in a glass jar in the bathroom!

you've reminded me that an aunt had a mix in a glass jar. I thought it was so sophisticated!

I used to like the instant coffee and chicory jars. It seems to have been replaced by all the instant frothy coffee sachets, trying to look like they were made by a coffee machine. You can buy chicory as coffee replacement in health food shops, but I liked chicory with real instant coffee.

I'm pretty sure you can still get Camp coffee and chicory "liquid: from Tesco. (I say "liquid" in inverted commas, because the stuff was like tar and took ages to get out of the bottle - tectonic plates move faster.

I really like it. too.

safeplanet · 26/02/2023 07:12

Does anyone remember those body shop bath oil capsules? I think they were all sorts of shapes and scents?

you could go into shops & it was like bath pic & mix.

Footle · 26/02/2023 07:12

@Lysianthus , your Freudian slip is appreciated.
The shiny tracing paper stuff was once called Bronco, and the words MEDICATED WITH IZAL GERMICIDE were printed on each sheet.
How very weird.

BCBird · 26/02/2023 07:17

Remember the coloured paper- we were not posh enough for that 🤣

Dolphinnoises · 26/02/2023 07:18

I remember my much-loved auntie, who was better off than we were, had a swimming pool but the thing that impressed me more was she had pink loo roll for her pink bathroom and blue loo roll for her blue one. 80s glamour…

safeplanet · 26/02/2023 07:20

Someone should really invent a bright sort of rainbow toilet roll for the Frugi/Grimms sort of parents.

😁

Wild strawberry boots natural collection!

I remember buying this & being disappointed. I wanted it so bad.

Phos · 26/02/2023 07:25

I remember being so happy when my mum started buying green toilet paper to match our lovely avocado bathroom 😅

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/02/2023 07:35

Yes, coloured loo paper was definitely a thing.

In the very early 70s I had a holiday job on a supermarket checkout, and because he cracked me up, I still remember one of the permanent staff - a red haired bloke in his early 20s, saying (please imagine a very heavy Brummie accent) ‘That’s the third time I’ve filled up the pink toilet rolls today. I reckon they’ve all got gastric.’ 😂

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 26/02/2023 00:18

Remember bath pearls. I used to love squeezing them. Haven't seen them for years.

There's a brand called Bubble T that make them

monomatapea · 26/02/2023 07:39

There was definitely a modern version of coloured loo roll - it was like really bright colours though

BananaCocktails · 26/02/2023 07:40

I’ve seen bath pearls you can still buy them

Bicnod · 26/02/2023 07:46

itsacarveup · 26/02/2023 00:12

I also remember the medicated loo roll my granda had that came in a wee box, it was like tracing paper.

My granddad had this as well... Just why??!!

RosesAndHellebores · 26/02/2023 07:47

Where can you still buy bath pearls @BananaCocktails? I loved them but thought they were discontinued due to sustainanbility/eco issues.

Goodyetalso · 26/02/2023 07:51

I miss coloured toilet paper. We had blue to match our bathroom. Pink was always the worst colour - it was a really nasty pink from what I remember. I only saw lilac TP once and was impressed with the opulence.

and I want pink, yellow and blue cotton wool back too. Haven’t been able to get that for at least 20 years. I remember making Easter cards at school using the yellow ones to make Easter chicks.

Lysianthus · 26/02/2023 07:53

@Footle Merci!

Imsobored22 · 26/02/2023 07:55

follyfoot37 · 26/02/2023 06:48

why is this in AIBU?
Coloured lavatory paper is common

Well, there are dozens of commenters who, like me, have not seen it in years.

it’s just a lighthearted reread, AIBU to miss coloured toilet paper.

There is no need to be smug at best, bitchy at worst.

I haven’t read the full thread so hoping this hasn’t come up yet: does anyone else remember a common gift being a wicker duck containing a flannel, bath peals, soaps and bath cubes? We had about 4 empty wicker ducks in my house due to receiving a few of them. It was early 90s I think and then they just stopped being a thing. I was only thinking the other day that I hadn’t seen a wicker duck filled with bath crap for sale for almost 30 years.

itsacarveup · 26/02/2023 08:01

@CountingMareep Not that you're actually making any sense, but a single-end tenement in Glasgow ain't upper class hen but I'm sure my long departed granda who used medicated loo roll would have been tickled to hear his family was part of the upper class.
