Does anyone remember coloured toilet paper? Any other random disappearances?

Just this really.

I have recollections of toilet paper being available in lilac, mint, peach, baby blue. My husband thinks in lying.

its now white. I’m not sure when the colours disappeared.

I'd love some lilac loo roll to brighten up the day. I realise that this is a non-problem but I’m bored and have had a glass of wine (or two).

Has anyone got any other random disappearances that cannot be explained?

In the 1970s and 80s it was the norm to have a horrendous coloured bathroom suite. Avacado green, blue, peach amongst others. People used to buy their toilet paper to match, so a range of colours were available.

These days bathroom suites are normally white, so there is only really demand for white toilet paper.

I haven't seen Fairy Household Soap for years. It came in massive square blocks and lasted forever. DM would dampen a block and run it across the collars of my dad's white shirts to get rid of the tide marks.

I love those coloured basins @AndrexPuppy

The coloured basins and toilets are nice for downstairs toilets then you only need toilet and sink not full on bathroom and you can go a bit mad with wall colours as well

dottiedodah · 26/02/2023 08:57

Mum always had pink loo roll! Lots of colours to match bathrooms . I think they went out when bathrooms were white .Also heard worries about causing Rectal/bowel cancer ?

We still have a beautiful 70s blue downstairs toilet.

Dm always refused to buy the coloured paper to my disappointment. She said the colour ran, and I could not understand why that was a problem.
I suspect the real reason was that you couldn't get it in cheaper brands so it was more expensive.

I also remember the medicated loo roll my granda had that came in a wee box, it was like tracing paper.

I do remember that, I think it might have been called Izal. I also remember sitting at the kitchen table with granny cutting up newspaper and threading it on string. Very frustrating sitting on the loo reading something salacious in the News of the World and not being able to find the end of the story.

Heckythump1 · 26/02/2023 09:01

Yes I do! There's a club near me with Blue in it's name and they always used to have blue toilet paper :P always made me smile!

GingerLiberalFeminist · 26/02/2023 09:01

Definitely pastel coloured loo roll - I remember my mum getting peach to match our bathroom in the 90s!

I will say you need more in your life though if lilac loo roll will brighten it up 😂😚

MerryMarigold · 26/02/2023 09:02

I'd forgotten to remember coloured toilet paper till I saw this. I now remember my mum refused to buy it because it wasn't environmentally friendly but once she had to because there was no more white at the supermarket! And once my Gran sent me a pretty one with flowers on when I was at University as a little treat (she always sent me little parcels of treats like sachets of hot chocolate ♥️😭).

They’re really nice, aren’t they? It helps that they are very defined architectural, Deco shapes rather than the blobby, rounded styles of the 70 & 80’s.

BrandNewBicep · 26/02/2023 09:04

I was at my mums house this week and used peach loo roll. Checked on Waitrose site and they only do white. She must have had it ages. Can still get Mum roll-on mainly in Sainsburys.

Does anyone remember the Boots Natural Collection stackable lip balms and also the Spice Girls impulse body spray (I can still remember the scent so vividly).
The Body Shop also did a squidgy soap which smelt of pineapple and a little bag of fruit shaped soaps.

ancientgran · 26/02/2023 09:07

Black jack ointment, was brilliant for things like boils or to draw out a splinter.

Wrights Coal Tar vaporiser, was a must in my house with a child prone to chest infections. It was like magic but was withdrawn.

Both were probably not up to modern standards or something but they were brilliant.

YukoandHiro · 26/02/2023 09:07

Yeah my mum always used to buy peach - I'd forgotten about that

AndrexPuppy · 26/02/2023 09:07

I used to get a shrink-wrapped gift basket of body shop mini ‘smellies’ in that fake straw for Christmas every year as a teen in the early 90’s.

RedRiverShore3 · 26/02/2023 09:08

You could get peach Andrex on Amazon in pack of 45 as late as 2022, I used to get in on offer for about £15 for 45 rolls on deal of the day in 2019, it was called pebble. Sadly those days have gone, it was last on sale about 6 months ago for about £50, I kept checking hoping for an offer. The 2019 rolls were big as well, twice the size of the white Andrex now.

lucya66 · 26/02/2023 09:14

Doesn’t the colouring in the paper irritate sensitive parts?

RedRiverShore3 · 26/02/2023 09:15

I was one of those that had over 100 toilet rolls in stock when Covid started, all bought on offer in 2019, the peach obviously wasn't popular, it was piled up at the side of the wardrobe.

And L’Oréal kids - “coz we’re worth it too!”

Or when you put no more tears in your eyes, and surprise surprise there are lots of fucking tears.

Isn’t it « no more tears » as no more knots in your hair / broken hair from pulling on a knot, not no more tears in your eyes?

Neverknowinglysensible · 26/02/2023 09:21

We had a barley (or possibly Bali) brown bathroom suite in the 70’s, accessoried with a pink carpet, pink towels and, of course, pink loo roll!

MyopicBunny · 26/02/2023 09:26

I only like white. I remember my grandma buying pink in the 80s though!
