DP thinks my bag is 'childish and showy'

I'm originally from Sweden and back home people of all ages carry these bags. Last week, I decided to purchase a new Kånken to replace the one I've had for 10 years. Picked this colour (www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-rainbow-mini?v=F23621%3a%3a7323450792466) this time around to replace the black one I had, and DH absolutely hates it. I use it primarily for dog walks and trips to the local cafe/shops and he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together. Confused

AIBU to think that it's just a bag? It's not that bad, is it?

I just googled five-toed shoes. I now need some eye bleach.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 23/02/2023 23:45

I don't know if I'd carry the rainbow one these days if I'm totally honest, with the whole rainbow flag meaning certain things that I wouldn't want people thinking I'm trying to co-opt..

I'm put off anything with rainbows on because I don't want people to assume I am wearing them to make a statement, rather than just because I like it.

Why’s that then @Zanzhimmer?

Love your bag ❤

Schnooze · 23/02/2023 23:50

Even I’ve noticed they are trendy and I go round with my eyes closed most of the time. So for that reason yanbu.

Would I have one in that colour combo? No, so I guess I have to side with dh really. Sorry!

katepilar · 23/02/2023 23:53

Its not a kids bag. Its an universal adult/teen/preeteen bag, if it needs a description of that kind which it doesnt. MIght not be to your husbands liking but he is in no place to be so judging or embarrassed about it.

roastedtomatoes · 23/02/2023 21:45

Wrong link, mine's the bright yellow one!

The yellow one is fabulous! 🥰

lobeliasb · 23/02/2023 23:55

He needs to get over it. The most I'd think on seeing someone with that bag is that it's bright, but that's fine. It's not that serious.

Nancydrawn · 23/02/2023 23:57

The bag is fine.

Five toe shoes are horrific.

You must love him, which means he probably has lovely redeeming qualities above and beyond his rude comments about bags.

Justanotherlurker · 24/02/2023 00:03

I was recently in Sweden for work and I didn't notice any more/less people wearing this brand then anywhere else to be honest, it is now generic trend ala barbour was previously that also had huge sales in sweden and in fact saw the same bag in Manchester a couple of weeks ago. I think you are trying to nudge the conversation around the social angle rather than just you look like a generic fashion chasing person , and if that is the case then from my friendship group it is considered cringeworthy.

She’s Swedish and it’s a Swedish bag. It’s also just a bag she happens to like. If other people like and are wearing it, that’s fine. There is no ‘social angle’ and nothing is being ‘nudged’. Is something wrong with you?

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 24/02/2023 00:13

I can honestly say I have never thought twice about a stranger's bag. Does anyone even notice these things? Buy what makes YOU happy, don't let your OH dissuade you because he thinks you'll be judged.

Weallhaveavoice · 24/02/2023 00:14

Firstly your bag, your choice

And..not that it should be relevant but as you’ve asked.
I love the bag!!!!!! What a treat.

YesYou · 24/02/2023 00:16

He wears these? 🤮

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/02/2023 00:17

It’s a completely normal bag.

What a weirdo. Does he make a habit of crushing your spirit like this?

FredPolice · 24/02/2023 00:19

It's right at the opposite end of the scale from anything I'd use as a bag, but I would defend to the hilt your right to use it without anyone making dickish comments.

Those five-toed shoe things are verging on indefensible, though.

Nimbostratus100 · 24/02/2023 00:21

I think its great

ladydimitrescu · 24/02/2023 00:23

I have a bag problem, but several of mine are loungefly Disney backpacks, so if yours is childish god knows what he'd think of mine Grin

NewNovember · 24/02/2023 00:23

Absolutely fine as as an adult sidekick to Mr Tumble.

artimesiasfootsteps · 24/02/2023 00:29

I work freelance quite a bit in fashion, and would say I’m pretty chic in what I wear because it’s part of my job, but my partner often takes a shine to some of the weirdest items of lairy clothes, I love that about him and that he doesn’t care, it’s endearing and sweet. You’re happy and like it, and honestly those are popular bags, they aren’t bad taste (and who gives a toss if they are!), YANBU.

Wearingatshirt · 24/02/2023 00:29

I like the orange one! It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Its like your clothes. Would you let anyone else dictate to you what you should wear? Fuck no! Get an orange one as well. Hes being totally unreasonable. If you like it you wear it. End of. You've got a cheerful bag but a miserable sod of a dh!😄

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 24/02/2023 00:32

It's not to my taste... but if you like it who cares what anyone else thinks?

OldFan · 24/02/2023 00:34

'Who asked you?'

Stompythedinosaur · 24/02/2023 00:35

I've no idea why your dh cares what bag you choose to carry, why does it effect him? It's not nice of him to be critical about your personal choices.

What's childish is his attitude.

DinosaurBaby · 24/02/2023 00:42

People who deliberately try to suck the life out of other people’s innocent joy are toxic.

I’d show him my Disney Dooney and Bourke bags if I have a shit about what he thinks.

I suggest you buy a second bag in a far more obnoxious colour just to piss him off.
