DP thinks my bag is 'childish and showy'

I'm originally from Sweden and back home people of all ages carry these bags. Last week, I decided to purchase a new Kånken to replace the one I've had for 10 years. Picked this colour (www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-rainbow-mini?v=F23621%3a%3a7323450792466) this time around to replace the black one I had, and DH absolutely hates it. I use it primarily for dog walks and trips to the local cafe/shops and he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together. Confused

AIBU to think that it's just a bag? It's not that bad, is it?

It's one of those 'natural walking' shoes where instead of a toe box it's like a glove with five 'compartments' for your fingers but for your feet. He wears it everywhere and I have trained myself to just not look at it. 😂

I’m sorry Op but it must be like going out with a chimp when he wears those shoes. 🙈😂

My son in law has these. They look seriously weird to me. Like alien feet.
He's a very nice chap otherwise though🙂

Strawberrypicnic · 24/02/2023 00:45

I really like it. I would wear it and I don't dress in a zany way at all. I guess it does depend what you're wearing it with though. For me personally I would only put it with a neutral outfit/muted colours. With an outfit made up of other bright colours or patterns it would be quite an eccentric look, not that that's a reason not to wear it of course.

barmycatmum · 24/02/2023 00:47

It’s cute. If it makes you smile, he needs to shut up and stop being such a downer.

BellePeppa · 24/02/2023 00:51

Why would he be embarrassed to go out with you wearing that? He needs to learn the art of not giving a f*ck what other people, who he probably doesn’t even know, think. Chances are, people are not thinking anything at all. And even if they were, so bloody what? I have a similar, bright orange bag, it wouldn’t occur to me to feel embarrassed wearing it.

OldFan · 24/02/2023 00:52

I don't think it's that bold at all, I thought it was going to be something like this:

I love rainbows, and have rainbow scarves, shoes, jackets etc. But I wouldn’t pay £80 for something that every other person was wearing. It is hideously overpriced without much design, or any real features. You can get a lot more quality for your money.

Grumpsy · 24/02/2023 00:55

In my opinion it’s hideous and I agree with your dh that it looks like a child’s bag, but I wouldn’t judge you for it, to each their own

sweeneytoddsrazor · 24/02/2023 00:57

Nice bags but the yellow one looks like something Mr Tumble would carry

mathanxiety · 24/02/2023 01:02

Your P has quite a pole up his ass.

TBOM · 24/02/2023 01:22

I wouldn’t judge you for it, but it’s what primary school kids have as the bag of choice where I live.

Tg2023 · 24/02/2023 01:32

He shouldn't be embarrassed by what you chose to accessorise with!
He knows you and should love you for who you are. Not what your wearing.

There's absolute bastard dressed in designer suits daily who people think are the bees knees.

It's what's on the inside that counts not what your wearing.
Enjoy your bag Op 😁

sweetgingercat · 24/02/2023 01:56

Ha ha! Your DH would have had a fit at the childish chicken bag I used to carry around, with a rubbery moulded chicken head that poked out from under my armpit, a pair of hanging chicken feet, which swung as I walked along and the opening was under the wing!

I threw it out when I got to about 40, which is a shame, because I'd gladly send it to you so your DH could get things in proportion😎

Spongeboob · 24/02/2023 01:58

Late 30s and just bought a heart shaped lace trimmed backpack complete with bat wings.
Every time he mentions your bag put his creepy shoes in the middle of the floor.

Notcontent · 24/02/2023 02:06

Where do you live OP? I am in London and it feels like every second person has one of those bags - either the real thing or a copy. Your DP is being weird.

Sounds like your husband is homophobic and that's the real issue

MysteryBelle · 24/02/2023 02:35

I love it. What a cheerful yellow. Your dh is acting childish. Why does everything have to be black and boring?

MysteryBelle · 24/02/2023 02:38

Hold on. He wears those toe shoes where each toe is individually engloved for no good reason except to show how foolish the owner is? He has no call for judging your cute and cheerful bag.

Sleepless1096 · 24/02/2023 02:50

You'd be easy to find in a crowd, at any rate.

It's not to my taste but I think it's fine. He's being silly.

Monoplane · 24/02/2023 02:51

OldFan · 24/02/2023 00:52

I don't think it's that bold at all, I thought it was going to be something like this:

I actually have a bag that looks very much like that, except it's a backpack and it's shiny.

It was the first thing I thought of when I read the OP. I thought well he certainly wouldn't like my bag!

I love yours, OP. What's the good in living your life without room for a disco rainbow bag?

Please always wear whatever you like or feel comfortable in. Sod anyone else! 🌈!!!

Aarkay22 · 24/02/2023 03:10

I love these bags. Started using them for runs to the mall, doctor etc. Liked so much I bought 4 more and gifted my parents and in laws who all love it.

gumball37 · 24/02/2023 03:23

Makes me think of Rainbow Bright, but I wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen with someone sporting it.

FeelingwearyFeeelingsmall · 24/02/2023 04:33

I think a yellow one would have a very childish vibe - and what's wrong with that?

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 24/02/2023 05:18

monomatapea · 23/02/2023 21:56

Er. No. Even if it does look a bit much why should OP get another bag just to please him?

Because decent people take their partner's feelings into account?
