DP thinks my bag is 'childish and showy'

I'm originally from Sweden and back home people of all ages carry these bags. Last week, I decided to purchase a new Kånken to replace the one I've had for 10 years. Picked this colour (www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-rainbow-mini?v=F23621%3a%3a7323450792466) this time around to replace the black one I had, and DH absolutely hates it. I use it primarily for dog walks and trips to the local cafe/shops and he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together. Confused

AIBU to think that it's just a bag? It's not that bad, is it?

Could be worse, I walk round with my granddaughter's Peppa pig, bright pink rucksack 😀

supersop60 · 23/02/2023 22:45

Nobody will be looking twice at your bag. Your DH is nuts.

I had the bright yellow one. Loved it.

htdef2 · 23/02/2023 22:47

It's a bright bag, but there's nothing wrong with it. I'm one of those only wears black type but I don't think I'd notice if someone was wearing that bag.

TitoMojito · 23/02/2023 22:47

I buy clothes for myself in the kids section of shops so I'm the last person who could judge someone for looking childish. If you like it, wear it!

Me too

Diversion · 23/02/2023 22:48

I have a rucksack with a patch which says zombie hunter, it is huge and contains so many things useful, useless but important to me. My husband accepts my choices in clothes, hair colour, piercings, accessories etc even though they would not be his choices and would not comment as my adult children do not either, I'm just generally a bit weird according to them all. They love and accept me for who I am. My sister introduces me to people or talks about me as her weird sister and knows that I actually do not give a flying doodah about what she or anyone else thinks and yes it has taken me a long time to get to this stage and it is very freeing 😁Wear your bag with pride!

GimmeBiscuits · 23/02/2023 22:48

Nothing wrong with that at all.

roastedtomatoes · 23/02/2023 22:53

Showed him this thread and he has grudgingly accepted that this will be my version of his five toed shoes — other party hates it but it's there to stay. Grin

I like it!

mind you, my bag is canvas & has cows on it & 'moo'.

it's a little less loud than yours, but arguably more childish.

your DP IS an insecure twat.

ElfHasBeenSilly · 23/02/2023 22:54

What on earth is a five toed shoe?! 🤣

FancyFanny · 23/02/2023 22:55

I think it's pretty horrible, but that's just me because it's not 'my style'.

AlmostaMamma · 23/02/2023 22:55

he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together

This is such an incredibly weird thing to even think, much less say to you. There’s obviously nothing wrong with the bag, but that’s actually beside the point. What is wrong with your husband?

blisstwins · 23/02/2023 22:58

Does he think the rainbows are gay pride and that is the issue?

I was with him until the five toed shoes reveal 🤮

Blinky21 · 23/02/2023 22:59

Not my kind of thing but depends on your personal style!

Reiningitin · 23/02/2023 22:59

@JackiePlace no the OP did say it's the yellow one she has

It's one of those 'natural walking' shoes where instead of a toe box it's like a glove with five 'compartments' for your fingers but for your feet. He wears it everywhere and I have trained myself to just not look at it. 😂

The combination of the very bright yellow and the rainbow handles does make it look like a Kindergarten rucksack (I also live somewhere where 50% of under 30 year old women and plenty of older ones of all ages carry those tiny Fjäll raven rucksacks, but not usually in that colour combination!) Either bright yellow or rainbow handles might look bright without being quite so preschool...

However I totally agree that as long as you carry it and don't ask him to, your DH has no say in what bag you carry - AND although when looking at the colour combination online it did scream preschool, it's highly unlikely I'd actually particularly notice IRL unless you were my friend and drew my attention to it or we were sitting together with it on the table or something. Just walking past I doubt I'd think anything of it.

Did you show it to your DH and ask his opinion? Although it's none of his business if you didn't ask, that doesn't mean he's duty bound to lie if you did...

Thatboymum · 23/02/2023 23:00

I mean it’s an ugly bag but it’s up to you if you wanna wear an ugly bag or not not anybody else

Pwincessb · 23/02/2023 23:01

Flipping heck - I have no less than 5 dinosaur bags - one of which is covered in sequins. This is fine. Your dh would despair at me....

Jacopo · 23/02/2023 23:01

The bag is ok but the product description on the website is too much, sorry.
“Nature has no prejudices – the rainbow has become a symbol for diversity, acceptance and equality and we think it perfectly captures the spirit of outdoor life. With Kånken Rainbow, Fjällräven celebrates every individual’s right to express themselves.”

Thank you for the correction. I missed that info.

Probably thinks the rainbow is for kids. The rainbow doesn't belong to pride.
