DP thinks my bag is 'childish and showy'

I'm originally from Sweden and back home people of all ages carry these bags. Last week, I decided to purchase a new KÃ¥nken to replace the one I've had for 10 years. Picked this colour (www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-rainbow-mini?v=F23621%3a%3a7323450792466) this time around to replace the black one I had, and DH absolutely hates it. I use it primarily for dog walks and trips to the local cafe/shops and he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together. Confused

AIBU to think that it's just a bag? It's not that bad, is it?

I actually have the exact same one, and am personally offended by your husband 😂😂 tell him to have some more resilience and to not let a bag bother him, its a bag for practically and looking effing awesome!
Yellow kakens forever 💛

phoenixrosehere · 24/02/2023 19:53

Looks good to me, don’t really see how it is showy tbh.

I’d actually like a bag like that with more of a pastel rainbow colour and in mint green.

Tessabelle74 · 24/02/2023 19:55

Your OH is weird. There's nothing wrong with it

Jack80 · 24/02/2023 19:58

That’s the type of bag I use.

So you believe in dressing to suit your age then?

I'm not wearing what I wore when I was a teenager, that's for sure. What's your point? People can wear whatever they want but I've found it helpful to consider how ageing affects aesthetics.

Harls1969 · 24/02/2023 20:03

Oh good grief, tell him to get a grip. I have a backpack with dinosaurs on, I wear multi-colour dresses with quirky prints, coloured tights, coloured boots and my hair is two definitely not natural colours! I am in my 50s. I really don't think your DH has anything to worry about 😂

Sillyname63 · 24/02/2023 20:05

Your bag looks practical and colourful, tell him tough he doesn't like it you do!!

magicthree · 24/02/2023 20:08

@houseargh - I agree it is too small for me, and I prefer padded straps, but presumably it is used instead of a handbag, and so practical for carrying a few items around. It's far easier to carry anything in a backpack. I can't comment on the number of that particular one being used however as I don't live in the UK.

Simonjt · 24/02/2023 20:10

My nappy bag is a pokémon rucksack, yes its childish, but quess what adults are allowed to have fun, we don’t have to sit around looking glum with our black non-branded rucksacks.

MustWeDoThis · 24/02/2023 20:11

Tell him you think his face is showy and childish and if he bad mouths your bag again, he'll be wearing it over his head in public so you're not embarrassed by his face.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 24/02/2023 20:11

He's entitled to his opinion. I personally wouldn't be seen dead with one and would be honest if my partner bought one.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 24/02/2023 20:16

I'm still shook that he wears these monstrosities and then lectures someone else on their fashion choices.

willowthecat · 24/02/2023 20:17

The bag is lovely but I wonder why he feels he can decide what kind of bag you should have - even if was awful, it's your bag. Is he odd about other decisions you make ? How would he react if you said his shirt or shoes were embarrassing ?

Hmm1234 · 24/02/2023 20:22

Yes it’s awful and not a popular brand or ‘very expensive’.
A Vans backpack would of been a better choice

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 24/02/2023 20:31

@Hmm1234 well, it IS a popular brand. It’s been around for years, is beloved by many international students and MN’ers. It’s not ‘fashionable’ or (I hate this word but see it on here) ‘trendy’ but I’m sure those that use such a backpack like it for its practicality and aesthetics, rather than high fashion kudos.

Fluffmum · 24/02/2023 20:31

He needs to get a grip

GUARDIAN1 · 24/02/2023 20:35

I think it's lovely. Ignore him.

VivaciousRadish · 24/02/2023 20:37

I love it. I’d either want yellow or orange. I’m sure I’m older than their target market but I think they’re great.

Lots of weird comments about it being childish, but then I find ordinary handbags ghastly and am pleased I’ve never had one. I’m the least showy person you’ll ever meet.

Enjoy your bag. Your husband only gets a say if he’s going to be sitting in it like a little dog.

Chooksnroses · 24/02/2023 20:41

I'd use that bag, I'd choose yellow, and I'm 73!

AfraidToRun · 24/02/2023 20:44

If life has taught me anything, being an adult is shit and if I can fill it full of rainbows, unicorns and glitter then I will!

girlofsandwich · 24/02/2023 20:53

This thread is mad 😂

Enjoy you bag. I love a good pop of colour to pep me up, especially in the duller months!

His embarrassment over a bag is daft, if a stranger is that bothered by your backpack then good for them.. they must have little else to be concerned about.

I\d have chosen the blue personally, but other than that there is nothing at all wrong with our bag choice.

Heatherjayne1972 · 24/02/2023 21:00

Keep the bag
ditch the husband

only half joking. It’s a nice practical bag. I probably wouldn’t choose yellow but if you like yellow then go for it

he’s being daft

Cakeyface123 · 24/02/2023 21:04

I love it! I have a similar one that’s Brakeburn and if they did it in yellow, I’d have got that one instead

I couldn't give a toss at a monkey's rolling doughnut what anyone thinks of my look or 'aesthetics'. I dress for comfort and to please me, not what people think I should wear, what is 'in' or 'on brand'. Who does it help to consider aesthetics?

Personally, I don’t like the bag and do think it’s a bit childish. I also abhor anything with rainbows on it since rainbows were appropriated by the gender mob. Rainbows are now ruined for me.

What? Appropriated by 'the gender mob'?

Who are 'the gender mob??

The LGBT community has used the rainbow as its flag since 1978. Nobody - not even the 'gender mob' (nice slur there by the way) has 'appropriated' anything. Rainbows ruined? Get a grip.
