DP thinks my bag is 'childish and showy'

I'm originally from Sweden and back home people of all ages carry these bags. Last week, I decided to purchase a new Kånken to replace the one I've had for 10 years. Picked this colour (www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-rainbow-mini?v=F23621%3a%3a7323450792466) this time around to replace the black one I had, and DH absolutely hates it. I use it primarily for dog walks and trips to the local cafe/shops and he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together. Confused

AIBU to think that it's just a bag? It's not that bad, is it?

I thought you were going to say you had a Hello Kitty or Shaun the Sheep bag or something. Everyone has a Kanken or similar here, very popular with students (university town) and adults. My DDs have them in maroon and green, I've got a similar style in purple. Your DH is being a twit.

Always4Brenner · 24/02/2023 18:54

Love it especially the yellow one.

CompleteGinasaur · 24/02/2023 18:55

Absolutely the antithesis of your dedicated follower of fashion here - I'm a fat 60 year old lesbian who's been wearing variants on the same uniform of jeans, boots (not the interesting kind), t shirt and loose overshirt for the best part of 50 years. Anna Wintour probably organises search and destroy parties for people like me. But even I've heard of these bags and think they're quite cool...!

nopuppiesallowed · 24/02/2023 18:58

What a happy bag! It would cheer me right up to have one of those. And me? I'd buy him yellow five toed shoes so we'd be a matching pair😅

Yerroblemom1923 · 24/02/2023 18:59

Direct him to the Smiggle website! Your bag is lovely and certainly not a "childish" price tag for an original. Ignore your DH.

MadeInYorkshire69 · 24/02/2023 19:04

Errrrrr….I’d just say “I don’t really care I’m not asking you to carry it” Have the bag that you want!

MRSsqueak · 24/02/2023 19:07

was expecting to see a teddy bear type bag or something. the bag is fine. i would not let my DH control what kind of bag i carry around with me or what i wear. just as i wouldn't control what he carries around or wears. tell him he can stay home if he doesn't like it.

Benjispruce4 · 24/02/2023 19:07

He’s being weird.

oosha · 24/02/2023 19:09

I love bright and colourful for my little one but I’m afraid I wouldn’t use that bag. It does look a lot like a child’s bag. But each to their own and you should do what makes you happy.

MadMadaMim · 24/02/2023 19:14

He wears toed shoes and has the audacity to comment on a yellow bag?!?

Completely irrational and unreasonable, I know, but toed shoes make me want to physically reprimand the wearer!

Yourcatisnotsorry · 24/02/2023 19:22

It’s fine. He’s ridiculous.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 24/02/2023 19:25

@roastedtomatoes I think you can use whatever bag you like, and DH should 'suck it up, buttercup'. FWIW I have a PercyPig backpack I take on Parkrun. They can't touch you for it, apparently Grin

iklboo · 24/02/2023 19:28

Your DH is a boring, miserable sock-wazzock.

bridgetreilly · 24/02/2023 19:29

DP doesn’t have to use it. His opinion is irrelevant.

Also, it’s ace and entirely appropriate for what you are using it for.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 24/02/2023 19:33

It looks like a child’s backpack to me but I can’t anything offensive about it -!it hasn’t hit fluffy pink unicorns on so I’m sure nobody would bat an eyelid. Does he usually have such strong opinions on trivial stuff?

menopausalbloat · 24/02/2023 19:37

I'm 50 and I'd definitely rock the bright yellow one. Tell him to feck off.

Pinkfluff76 · 24/02/2023 19:38

What’s his problem?! Looks fine to me

pollykitty · 24/02/2023 19:39

Wow. Cannot my husband saying anything about what I wear or a bag etc. He just does not care. I thing that bag is adorable, they are very popular where I live.

gardenflowergirl · 24/02/2023 19:40

I'm with your husband on this, I think the bag is awful. Looks like a kids rucksack. I wouldn't dream of buying one for myself let alone going out for a date with my partner with one.

Crumpetdisappointment · 24/02/2023 19:41

i love it

Crumpetdisappointment · 24/02/2023 19:43

i cant bear a five toed shoe!

He wouldn't like me then, I just pick up any old rucksack when I go out - normally one of the kids old ones - think purple intergalactic space , bright red graffiti! And I'm on the slippery slope to 60. I have never paid any attention to other people's bags or clothes though those shoes seem a bit out there. But if he likes them ...

FineBerol · 24/02/2023 19:47

Yes it's very childish looking.

Is it worth the money? Or paying for the brand?

Manthide · 24/02/2023 19:48

Dh used to take offence at the outfits dd1 chose to wear when she was 2 and refused to go out with her wearing pink cord dungarees with a red puffy coat. I thought that was weird.
