DP thinks my bag is 'childish and showy'

I'm originally from Sweden and back home people of all ages carry these bags. Last week, I decided to purchase a new Kånken to replace the one I've had for 10 years. Picked this colour (www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-rainbow-mini?v=F23621%3a%3a7323450792466) this time around to replace the black one I had, and DH absolutely hates it. I use it primarily for dog walks and trips to the local cafe/shops and he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together. Confused

AIBU to think that it's just a bag? It's not that bad, is it?

No pink fur... no glitter.... no unicorn applique... no pokemon patches. Did you send the right link?

Vgbeat · 24/02/2023 18:24

This is my current bag, I think yours is infinitely more grown up (I'm 42 next month)

Kanken bags have been done to death but if you love it, who cares?

Ladyfrog59 · 24/02/2023 18:28

I'm 63 and i have a toy story bag my daughter is 32 and she has the same bag as you. How is that childish? He needs to get over himself. I'd be wanting to replace him.

If I got it free or at most a tenner I'd use it. I can't believe the price of things with fash labels anymore. But hey I'm cheap n cheerful, as long as they do the job I'm good.

It's definitely the rainbow straps. That was the first thing I noticed TBH. I don't care about that, but He Who Is Complaining might.

MummyMayo1988 · 24/02/2023 18:32

I'm more of a shoe gal than a bag gal but I do like that. It's cute and pretty but not in your face. I would totally ignore DH, he'll get over rit eventually 🤷‍♀️

MumOfOneAwesomeHuman · 24/02/2023 18:32

Your DH sounds like a dick!
You on the other hand sound awesome. The bag is also awesome. Love the yellow one and the rainbow you posted by mistake. I’d get one in every colour if you can afford it and buy DH one for Christmas! 😂

Can you please lend it to OP for a laugh?

Tootsweets84 · 24/02/2023 18:33

He's an idiot. The bag is gorgeous. I have much more 'childish' bags (including one shaped like a shark) and my dh loves them and also doesn't care what other people think because he's not an insecure teenager

Porkandbeans1 · 24/02/2023 18:34

These bags are great and last for ages. I love bright and fun colours so I think it's amazing.

ChickenBurgers · 24/02/2023 18:34

I don’t like it personally, but that just means I wouldn’t buy it and wear it. You buy and wear what you like and tell him to sod off.

catfunk · 24/02/2023 18:35

Given that I know adults who wear Disney backpacks and Harry Potter merch, I think this is fine

Dizzybet74 · 24/02/2023 18:36

It's lovely, and it's your bag not his so it doesn't matter what his opinion is. Plus I bet he'd be grateful if he lost you in a crowd!

Novatherova · 24/02/2023 18:36

Ignore him

RavenofEngland · 24/02/2023 18:37

I carry a Groot Loungefly bag. I also have a Stitch one. My purse is also Loungefly themed to Captain Marvel. I love Loungefly stuff and would have more if I could afford it. Keep doing you and if that means bright cheerful bags then so be it. Sod what anyone else thinks.

Partyandbullshit · 24/02/2023 18:39

As long as you don’t also wear dungarees. It’s a bit overgrown toddler tbh.

Not as overgrown toddler as your DH, though. Embarrassed to be seen out with you because “yellow” 🙄

alwaysKate · 24/02/2023 18:42

Why on earth does he think he has a say in what colour your bag is?! If it expresses your personality, he should support that or shut up. Honestly it sounds quite controlling to have said that to you.

Jennybeans401 · 24/02/2023 18:44

Looks very practical and fun to me!

JemimaPiddleDick · 24/02/2023 18:44

If your husband doesn’t like it tell him not to use it.

Thirtyandflailing · 24/02/2023 18:46

Honestly I think it looks like a kids backpack, however, you should be free to wear whatever you like. If I saw you I’d assume it had your children’s things in it

Happily 🤣🤣

UnfinishedBusiness · 24/02/2023 18:52

Ive just shown my DP a picture of your bag, and a few pictures of the type of shoes your DH wears. You get his first ever ltb!😂

Telibarb · 24/02/2023 18:52

roastedtomatoes · 23/02/2023 22:59

It's one of those 'natural walking' shoes where instead of a toe box it's like a glove with five 'compartments' for your fingers but for your feet. He wears it everywhere and I have trained myself to just not look at it. 😂

Good grief! And he's got the cheek to criticise your cheerful (not childish) bag! I wouldn't be seen in public with anyone wearing those ridiculous shoes. Sheesh! 😬

bingobanjo · 24/02/2023 18:53

It’s perfectly nice and you should definitely continue using it, but it does definitely vibe young.

My partner calls mine my foreign exchange student bag, and mine’s not even yellow.
