DP thinks my bag is 'childish and showy'

I'm originally from Sweden and back home people of all ages carry these bags. Last week, I decided to purchase a new KÃ¥nken to replace the one I've had for 10 years. Picked this colour (www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-rainbow-mini?v=F23621%3a%3a7323450792466) this time around to replace the black one I had, and DH absolutely hates it. I use it primarily for dog walks and trips to the local cafe/shops and he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together. Confused

AIBU to think that it's just a bag? It's not that bad, is it?

I use a rucksack with dinosaurs on it so I’m probably not the best judge…

CambsAlways · 24/02/2023 17:41

Not a fan of the bag myself but I think he’s being bit silly

SouthernComforter · 24/02/2023 17:44

Your bag, your choice! Not his business.

Scotland32 · 24/02/2023 17:45

I think it’s a childish but not showy. I wouldn’t buy it but you aren’t asking your husband (or me) to carry it so I don’t think his (or my!) opinion matters!

CheeseDreamsTonight · 24/02/2023 17:47

I love it and would pick it too. Fab!

JT12 · 24/02/2023 17:48

It says it was launched for Swedish schoolchildren to protect their backs so that is why it looks like a school backpack. If you like it though it doesn’t matter.

LaDamaDeElche · 24/02/2023 17:51

Such a strong opinion to have on a rucksack 😂 It's fine...it's also a brand from your country. Just because it became a staple for middle class kids in the U.K. doesn't mean anyone else who has one is childish for goodness sake!!

heaneb · 24/02/2023 17:52

It's super cute, especially in the yellow, certainly not childish

Gendercritic · 24/02/2023 18:05

How old are you? I don't believe in dressing to 'suit your age' in the sense of becoming a total frump after hitting 30 but I do think really bright and zany stuff is harder to carry off once you lose the dewy glow of youth.

Hellodollydaydream · 24/02/2023 18:07

Not my cup of tea bag wise, but so what but if this is an issue for your DP, he has got a problem

franbrad · 24/02/2023 18:07

Well goodness knows what DP would make of mine. I have the Tetley monkey rucksack and I LOVE it.......and I'm in my 50s 🤣

shellyleppard · 24/02/2023 18:08

Personally i love it!!! An old saying from my mum....suits the wearer, not the starer. If your partner is embarrassed go out on your own. Sod em!!

But by making that statement you have actually just affirmed that you do believe in dressing to suit your age, because you think certain things are harder to carry off after a certain age... 🤔

That would look a holy show on a 12 year old, to be fair.

EllysMom · 24/02/2023 18:11

I want one. He can have whatever opinion he likes, but he’s mean to make you feel bad about something you love. I wouldn’t really care what someone else thought of something I love. Some people will like the same things as you, some won’t. That’s life.
he’s being unreasonable. You are not.

Newnamenewname109870 · 24/02/2023 18:12

Your husband is embarrassed by you wearing bright colours? What is wrong with the world!

WorkerBee83 · 24/02/2023 18:12

Looks lovely to me and I’m a 40 year old woman

Spambod · 24/02/2023 18:12

Sorry op I’m with your dh here. It looks like a bag I would give my 3 year old to go to pre school with.

FabFitFifties · 24/02/2023 18:16

Yellow's the best one, I like it

SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox · 24/02/2023 18:16

Christ on a bike! He has five toed shoes and got embarrassed over a bright yellow bag. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Omg. He's priceless.

UnfinishedBusiness · 24/02/2023 18:18

Anyone wearing those vibram toe shoes in public has no place criticising anyone’s choice of anything imo! Love the bag by the way.

People in this country are so weird about this stuff.

In some SE Asian countries, weddings have a ‘Haldi’ ceremony where yellow turmeric paste is symbolically put on the faces of bride and groom. Women friends and family wear yellow saris. Even grandmothers! I wonder if people here think they are all trying to be zany and quirky and like a kids’ TV presenter.

Does our crap weather make everyone miserable and want to wear grey forever?

So you believe in dressing to suit your age then?
