I know I am of course. It can't happen and I'm so grateful for that time but I miss it. I want to go clubbing without looking like a dodgy old person and dance to the verve and the chemical brothers

Yes, more hope less hate. Skinny was in but we danced our fat away big time. Work, drink, club, repeat.

Rellywobble · 22/02/2023 23:31

I was a student in the 80s and we literally went out clubbing from Wed to Saturday..I was a student nurse in Brighton and we got home about 1am had about 3 hrs sleep and then went to work! We were all absolutely brilliant caring people despite lack of sleep! We catched up for the afternoon with a nap and then off we would go again 😊

Ifulikepinacoladas · 22/02/2023 23:31

@808Kate1 same here. Every year DH asks if I'd go again when we're watching it on the TV and I would say the same as you. We still go to a lot of gigs, but they all involve a hotel room after 😂
We do go to Victorious festival which isn't far from us so we can come home each night...though I will only do 1 day at that, DH does the whole weekend.

Detachment2 · 22/02/2023 23:33

Yanbu - I miss the times when you could go out and have no one round the table wonder which filter to use when photographing their pizza.

Just photos full stop actually!

Ifulikepinacoladas · 22/02/2023 23:37

But actual photos from the 90s are so cool! Less posed and more 'real' like we were reeeeeeeally having fun! There's not a huge amount of photographic evidence from my uni days, but what I do have is both priceless and hilarious.

CampervanKween · 22/02/2023 23:37

Disappointing though collecting your photos from Max Speilman thinking they'd all be amazing and they were blurred, red eyes, terrible expressions. The corner of a table.....about 4 good ones in the pack.

pippapipps · 22/02/2023 23:39

Yes please bring me back..if only eh!
Been thinking a lot about those times lately and it makes me feel so sad that they're gone forever and how quick those years have passed
I was looking at old photos earlier on from that time funny enough and I saw a really pretty girl in those photos and thought if only you could see then what I see now because I spent so much wasted time back then thinking I wasn't good enough not pretty enough not slim enough etc etc
What a waste anyone with me on this one

DomesticShortHair · 22/02/2023 23:42

I don’t want the 90s back. But I do want to go back to the 90s.

I consider myself very lucky that I was a teenager/early twenties for most of it. I genuinely feel sorry for those that have or will go through the same time in their lives, but won’t get to experience them, or anything like it.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 22/02/2023 23:43

In principle yes, the attitude and atmosphere in the country was just so different then. Music scene, etc

But I would not do secondary school again if you paid me

FictionalCharacter · 22/02/2023 23:46

I was happy in the 90s and the 80s too. And I was gorgeous and had a great body, but didn’t think I did 😢

oldwhyno · 22/02/2023 23:47

Does anyone have kids in the 17-23 zone that are living somewhat hedonistic, care-free but also optimistic and even ambitious lives?

like we did in the 90’s basically, does that still exist for some kids?

MessOfEyelinerAndSpraypaint · 22/02/2023 23:49

Oh I'm completely submerged in Hiraeth for the early 90s: my 20s 💞 tiny indie gigs, the young Manic Street Preachers 😍
Hitch-hiking everywhere with mates, work fun & energy for affordable gigs, clubs, festivals. For a few years, it felt like the world was changing for the better. Then it became clear it was a one-off window, business as usual resumed.

rebekahnorris · 22/02/2023 22:51

Did anyone go to Glastonbury or a festival in the 90's?....just ace!!

I went to Reading in 98 and hated it 😂

MaidOfSteel · 22/02/2023 23:52

I want the 80s back. Life was so much simpler then. And the music was so much better!
I've been really pining for that time lately.

louderthan · 22/02/2023 23:52

I did go to some amazing gigs all through the 90s though. Blur, Pulp, Suede, the Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Hole, Echobelly, Beck, Massive Attack etc etc etc

Spanglybangles · 22/02/2023 23:53

Ah the 90’s, the best of times without a doubt, amazing memories, clubbed my socks off!! Left school in 93 which was the year of my first T in the Park. Went nearly every year after that until I had my first child in 2006. I actually went that year while 5 months pregnant. God I wish I was as fat now as I (thought I) was in the 90’s.

DaenerysD · 22/02/2023 23:53

The 90's
Many memories
No evidence

Is framed in my kitchen

Jealous.

All the bands I listened to

Several years too young for the gigs

I also didn't know how to go about getting tickets or going to gigs, it's so much easier now

Starcatty · 22/02/2023 23:55

@JulianFawcettMP I did V96 Warrington complete with alcopops ( 16 at the time). Pulp were headlining. I didn’t realise at the time how much I would come to love that band! Reading your post has filed me with ? Nostalgia? I know I’d probably hate to do the same thing today but I’m also sad that I no longer want to…….I’m all for early nights and a good nights sleep now but Ipyour post has de me miss the young me!!!🤣

Starcatty · 22/02/2023 23:56

Has made me miss

EmmaEmerald · 22/02/2023 23:57

Name999999 · 22/02/2023 23:58

Yes please well 1999-2002 when I was at Uni. Reading back on my old journal I had such little confidence but still managed to have an amazing time. Would love to go back knowing what I know now, god I’d smash it lol

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 23/02/2023 00:02

I had a great time in the 80s and 90s. I was a teenager and student in the late 80s, lots of night out in Kelly's and then Student's Union/ The Cres in Belfast. I moved to London in 91, met my husband in 92 who introduced me to the club scene. Many happy times at Whirlygig, Club UK, Bagleys, Strawberry's Sundaes etc. Then we got involved with working in the beer tents at festival, so got to many many festivals for free, including Glastonbury, Reading, Creamfields, Tribal Gathering etc. Lots of partying right through my 20s! Got married had a baby and slowed down and eventually left London in my early 30s. Absolutely no regrets, we rinsed it! Now I'm in my 50s would love to do another night out, but would need a comfy sofa ( and a complete new body the day after).

I do look at my son who is in his twenties and has been to a club once in his life, and wonder where it all went wrong! 😀

Simplethingsmarcg · 23/02/2023 00:02

I loved it so much, all the illegal raves, we had a lighting and sound rig, getting arrested, gear impounded, released, back at it again the following weekend! Hedonistic couple of years in the early 90's, then the CJB came in and went off backpacking for 3 years around the world. I love my life now but boy nothing compares to back then 💕

Simplethingsmarcg · 23/02/2023 00:03

I still go to gigs in my 50's though after all the above post! Creamfields n all sorts, brilliant
