Sam Smith of course and his latest ridiculousness! Don't we already have non gender words for this? ie angler, fisher etc. even fisherperson would sound normal.

Who is Sam Smith? I am off to Google but sounds like a really common name!

Heavens that must have been a big rock.

TeaMistress · 16/02/2023 21:54

It's both cringy and horrifying. This man is trying to gaslight everyone around him into validating his delusions. I will be continuing to refer to him as a man.

SiliconHeaven · 16/02/2023 22:00

I’m a bit confused. Sam Smith appears to be mightily confused too though, so it’s not surprising I am.
The poor bloke seems to have got himself in a bit of a tizz. Didn’t his parents explain that the fact that he has a willy in his undercrackers means that he is a man? His biological sex is male?
Not sure what exactly he’s trying to describe when he says he’s non-binary. Assuming he doesn’t mean that he likes pink, glitter or high heels I can only imagine that he feels he has other, more feminine qualities, like he’s too sensitive to just be a man?
sorry, as I said, confused 😐

If he’d said he felt he was more elephant than male wouldn’t people be trying to help him rather than agreeing with him? What am I missing?

TeaMistress · 16/02/2023 22:15

Thats the scary thing. This man is rejecting biological reality and instead of offering him mental health assistance there are people that are falling over themselves to validate his supposed beliefs. Is this just a cynical attempt to gain attention and notoriety in order to prop up his career...

So true. He is being insulting to men if he’s suggesting that he’s ‘too sensitive’ to be a man. What- men can never have feelings? Or be poetic? Should we start retrospectively ‘transing’ Keats, Wordsworth, Donne, Larkin, Hughes, Shakespeare? (Why don’t people do this ever, but instead focus on turning strong women from history into ‘non-binary/ trans’ figures?)

If my son puts nail varnish on it doesn’t mean he becomes ‘trans’ / ‘non-binary’, or indeed anything other than a boy with nail varnish on.

I really enjoyed Little Them, but I also loved the follow-up book, Little Them, as well. The difference was that the first book was about young people growing up whereas the second one was about young people growing up: two quite distinct dynamics to compare and contrast.

So hard to decide if Little Them was better than Little Them, or if Little Them was better than Little Them - what do others think? That's an open question and I'd be interested in replies from both people and people, and to see if the opinions from people in the two groups differ strongly.

Eejit.

I thought he was just making a joke Confused

I thought he was just making a joke

He may have been; but it's very difficult to know when somebody is usually so humourless, seriously insistent about what things that most people consider to be ludicrous and prescriptive of how others should think.

If he was known for his ability to give and take a laugh and jocular personality, it would be a lot more obvious.

For all we know, SS could eventually come out and tell us that the they/them thing was all just a massive joke - and how much of a hoot it was that so many people fell for it; but I rather doubt that somehow....

Ah bless him. It's taken him years to not be that fella, you know, the one that isn't Ed Sheeran.

It's like watching Gary Barlow trying to be the cool one in Take That.

Ironic really considering that now they are in their 50s Gary Barlow is the cool one in Take That
