Sam Smith of course and his latest ridiculousness! Don't we already have non gender words for this? ie angler, fisher etc. even fisherperson would sound normal.

I only learned his name when in dh's car and the song felt like it was never, ever going to end. I asked who it was so I could avoid him forevermore. Sadly that was not to be.

I may be missing the point here, but isn't 'fisherman' (or 'fisherwoman') usually understood to refer to somebody who catches large amounts of fish every day for resale for a living?

Isn't it normally 'angler' or 'going fishing' for somebody doing it for a hobby - be they a pop star by trade or a shelf stacker in Tesco? Kind of like describing yourself as a 'joiner', because you once assembled a Billy bookcase from IKEA?!
