come on!! Be absolutely honest. how many of you have thrown that fleece over the top of your jimmys and done the school run?! I have many a time, in fact did it this very morning, but bit embarassing when the teacher came and asked me a question about DS and noticed the winnie the pooh sticking out the bottom of my jeans!

my kids get no grief at all

as i said i am in my car

i could be naked from the waist down and noone would know

cory · 07/02/2008 21:39

I don't see how other mums would see that I've grabbed a jumper and shoved it on on top of my nightie. How would they know I'm being skanky? Where I live it isn't the custom to pull other people's tops up to check what they're wearing underneath.

Not saying I make a practice of this, but there have been mornings that have been particularly hellish. And I imagined that this (which noone would know about) was better than to make my child late- which is very disruptive to the teacher and the other children. I don't think coming in late is fair on anyone.

conversebootmum · 07/02/2008 21:39

No winnie poohs on your neighb? What about on her husband?!

I bought a Tshirt for DH today.

Was expensive. For the money I spent, I reckon I could buy at least three pairs of pyjamas. Would last him for years.

Should'a seen this thread before shopping.

lou33 · 07/02/2008 21:40

and usually its a nightie so i put my jeans on easily enough

expatinscotland · 07/02/2008 21:40

Erm, no, the one next door neighbour is a 70-year-old woman who wears a skirt, tights and cardi when people come over for tea and the other is a hard-arse business woman who gets up at 5 to work out before commuting 1.5 -2 hours/each way - yes, that's how long it takes to travel 25 miles here - to work every day.

NKF · 07/02/2008 21:40

I know. And no need for soap.

Quattrocento · 07/02/2008 21:41

When you say you work at a psychiatric hospital, converse, do you mean like work or attend?

conversebootmum · 07/02/2008 21:42

i am that 70 year old woman that came for tea the other day, and under the skirt were my winnes hitched up!

yeah, erm, okay, converse.

Lauriefairycake · 07/02/2008 21:44

I'm a foster mum and I once had a 14 year old girl staying with me and we went to the pictures in our pink pj's and bunny slippers and had a giant bucket of popcorn.

Sure we got a few stares but we just giggled.

It was actually a really powerful experience for her - her whole life she had been controlled to the point of being very self harming (had massive scars all up and down her arms and legs). Going to the pictures in her pj's made her realise that she didn't have to fit in to society but that she could be confident in herself (it helped with her bulimia too)

VictorianSqualor · 07/02/2008 21:44

My next door neighbour is a dairy farmer, I think he'd give you all a small sharp shock if he saw you not dressed by about 5am.

conversebootmum · 07/02/2008 21:44

I actually 'work' as a psychiatric nurse RMN,

You are funny. Oddly dressed but funny.

sherby · 07/02/2008 21:45

Good Lord, have some self respect ladies.

How long does it take to pull some jeans on, what 20 seconds? Even if you do need to come home and take them off again, so what? You had to take your pyjamas of anyway so you've wasted 20 seconds so that you didn't look lazy and slobby.

How embarrasing for your children.

SparklyDYSONGothKat · 07/02/2008 21:46

I wouldn't but only because I sweat at night, and I feel minging in the mornings and also DH takes the kids to school lol

StripeyMamaSpanx · 07/02/2008 21:47

Do you really all have a shower before doing the school run?

conversebootmum · 07/02/2008 21:47

i partcularly like to read of an experience like Lauries and the fostered girl. Great for you and her. We do not all have to conform to what society expects of us, it feels good to be different and do different things. (work hat coming on, must stop)

Unfortunatly it's not a wind up! I work in a school and have the joy of seeing the great unwashed every day. It isn't just mornings either, they think nothing of rolling up (late) to collect their poor embarrassed children looking exactly the same (except by hometime they tend to have beans now slopped down the front of their un-ironed winnie-the-pooh pj's). Summer is even better, they turn up in very short nighties with no sign of underwear on - CLASSY!!!!!!!!

expatinscotland · 07/02/2008 21:48

I'm glad it's such a source of pride for you, converse.

I hope it's the same for your children.

Because for some, it really isn't.

NKF · 07/02/2008 21:48

Where is this place? I want to see pics? Who are these women? What have they been doing all day apart from eating beans? Do they ever get dressed? What do they wear on their feet?

Quattrocento · 07/02/2008 21:49

Did the school run this morning. My turn. I had a shower, washed my hair, brushed my teeth (concerned that the sleaze queens have not addressed the toothbrushing question btw) and put a suit on. Under the suit, I just wore regular underwear. Start to finish it takes precisely 25 minutes, same as it does every day.

It beggars belief that someone can get up at 6.30 and have two and a quarter hours and still not have time to get ready for the day. I mean what are you DOING? I could do a really very long run, get my children ready and clean the house in all that time.

expatinscotland · 07/02/2008 21:49

I don't want to know, NFK, because I don't see anything exciting, confidence-building, original, non-conformist, etc. about being a slob.

conversebootmum · 07/02/2008 21:50

I have to say, my children are not in the least bit fazed by pj's on school run. If it offended or embarassed, i wouldnt do it, but they think its hilarious and so do their friends. No harm done then!
