dipping toast in tea?

My mum always dipped her toast into her tea and I grew up doing the same. I still do it today and it's a secret pleasure!
Thick white toasted bread, thickly spread with butter and a mug of hot tea with a little sugar.............bliss.
My daughter also does it as does my brother.
Are there any other secret toast dunkers out there?
If so where do you live, I'm in South West Wales.

@RosyDawn
Not only do I dunk my toast in my tea, I dunk my Marmite toast in it!!
😭🤢
You're a wrong 'un 🤢🤣

Oh my Lord no never heard of this

Nice cup of tea with a biscuit in the side but "no dunking"

Would definitely mop up gravy or sauce from a plate with my garlic bread or flat bread though ...

Vile and gross IMO. The toast has butter on it surely??? You are dipping BUTTER in your tea. 😲 GRIM!

The more butter the better

There are countries where they put butter in tea instead of milk.

Lovegossip · 05/02/2023 22:32

I have done this a few times, the 1st time my dh saw me do it, he was like 😮 lol

CohenTree · 05/02/2023 22:51

I don't make any secret of this. I only dip if the toast has peanut butter on it, though. With a small mug of sugary tea. It was my breakfast and lunch every day before I went to school.

CohenTree · 05/02/2023 22:52

Correction to above: … only if the toast has peanut butter AND butter on it.

TrollMunter · 05/02/2023 22:52

What the fuck is this? Bread crumbs! In tea! Someone pass me the smelling salts!

LostCountAnotherName · 05/02/2023 22:53

Oh god love you! How did I forget this? (Off to buy white bread in the morning)!

Eleganz · 05/02/2023 23:17

God people are weird! Now I know I share an island with a bunch of toast-dipping nutcases!

Rummikub · 05/02/2023 23:40

It tastes good though!

Thanks to pp I’m going to try peanut butter on toast dipped into my tea.

GrandTheftWalrus · 05/02/2023 23:44

I dip my toast into tea.

And I also dip it into milk!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/02/2023 23:49

I wouldn’t want to drink the tea after dunking buttered toast in it, so it’s a no from me.

I guess I could make two cups of tea - one for drinking, one for dunking. Or just not.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 06/02/2023 00:07

My gran used to do it, she had no teeth though.
I’m a bit more refined…I take a bite of toast with a mouthful of tea instead of dipping it into the tea. I take a drink with most foods as due to major facial reconstructive surgery I have no back teeth, they had to come out during the surgery, my jaw bones are too weak for tooth implants so the extra liquid helps.

Wonderful! Spread the peanut butter very thinly... as you would butter. That was the only mistake I made when I first tried to recreate this childhood joy (Mum was very frugal).

Rummikub · 06/02/2023 21:17

Tip noted! I was going to spread thickly! Now to add jam or not jam?

No jam! just the butter and then the PB. Lush.

Endlesssummer2022 · 06/02/2023 21:47

I do it! With buttery brown toast. DH thinks it’s disgusting, but it’s soooo lovely.

Endlesssummer2022 · 06/02/2023 21:47

Oh and I’m from London.

😂I might do a taste test

elm26 · 06/02/2023 21:50

Yep! My Nanna used to and I still do occasionally!

VouloirCestPouvoir · 06/02/2023 22:00

At a push hot chocolate. Not tea. Soup is fine. Soggy tea bread, yum lol.
If you like it that's fine just don't make me do it 😁
