dipping toast in tea?

My mum always dipped her toast into her tea and I grew up doing the same. I still do it today and it's a secret pleasure!
Thick white toasted bread, thickly spread with butter and a mug of hot tea with a little sugar.............bliss.
My daughter also does it as does my brother.
Are there any other secret toast dunkers out there?
If so where do you live, I'm in South West Wales.

YANBU. Bloody delicious. I always did it before my coeliac diagnosis.

To the haters: try it. You won’t look back. Needs to be strong English breakfast tea with a little milk and sugar, plus salted butter on the toast.

I got it from Nana in Liverpool.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/02/2023 22:28

Melted butter floating on tea is utterly gross, sorry.

My French exchange girl’s mother used to dunk her buttery ‘tartine’ in her bowl of milky tea - it made me feel sick. I had thought it was a disgusting French habit!

Devoutspoken · 04/02/2023 22:33

Heavenisahalfpipe, apparently it's the parisian way

blackpearwhitelilies · 04/02/2023 22:33

I hate seeing people dunk stuff in their hot drinks. My best friend dunks biscuits and the soggy bits fall off them in a horrible mush. But I do dunk rolls in soup, so am completely unreasonable.

MissMaple82 · 04/02/2023 22:36

My dad does this and so do it. Love it

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 04/02/2023 22:13

This. Why on EARTH do people do it?! Actually I don't know anyone in real life who does it! No-one I know is that batshit or gross!

You probably do... hoe many people do you eat tea and toast with to k ow though, it's not something that comes up conversation generally !!

RhadamanthNemes · 04/02/2023 22:39

Greasy tea?

No thanks.

RhadamanthNemes · 04/02/2023 22:42

Also, the entire point of toast is the crunch and the malliard reaction. Don't filth it up with wet you dirty buggers.

Strawberry0909 · 04/02/2023 22:42

Oh not tried tea, guilty pleasure is marmite on thick toast dunked in coffee😜

notprincehamlet · 04/02/2023 22:43

Why would you do that to toast? Why??

Berlinlover · 04/02/2023 22:45

Absolutely disgusting, I hope you don’t do that in public.

Georgeandzippyzoo · 04/02/2023 22:45

Ha ha! I too do this secretly! No-one knows I do it, 'caught' it off my aunty's!

Florissant · 04/02/2023 22:46

I hadn't thought about it but now I will. Thanks for the suggestion!

GimmeBiscuits · 04/02/2023 22:47

Haven't done that in a long time. I prefer to use marmite toast rather than plain for dipping.

SpritelySmog · 04/02/2023 22:50

Me! My mum and brother do it too, also from Liverpool

plebclass · 04/02/2023 22:52

The original drinkers of tea (both South and East Asia), long before the Brits cottoned on to the existence of teq, would often drink it buttery!

plebclass · 04/02/2023 22:52

Of tea that should say. They still do in many places!

MadamLeota · 04/02/2023 22:54

DH is a toast dipping weirdo. But what makes him even weirder is he doesn’t like tea. He won’t drink tea and never has, but he sometimes makes a cup to dip toast in.
strange bloke.

harrassedmumto3 · 04/02/2023 22:58

Yuk!

Amybelle88 · 04/02/2023 23:07

I do it - absolutely love it and got it from my mum.

However, I try not to think too much about what I'm actually doing because it is proper slob behaviour and rather rank 😂😂

So, so good, though 😂😂😂😂

Amybelle88 · 04/02/2023 23:09

Oh and I'm from Liverpool, too!

Devoutspoken · 04/02/2023 23:12

It's not really different to dunking biscuits is it?

LunchBoxPolice · 04/02/2023 23:18

South east wales here and I dip my toast! It’s lush

FrangipaniBlue · 04/02/2023 23:26

Dipped in tea? Absolutely definitely not.

Hot buttery toast should be dunked in coffee.

SirenSays · 04/02/2023 23:28

I'll dunk biscuits but not toast. My grandmother used to take a huge bite of toast and then drink some tea with it. Makes me feel ill thinking about it but then I guess the mug isn't greasy at least.
