To put bright orange cushions on this sofa?

herapotomus · 03/02/2023 13:24

Just got this plum sofa, had last sofa for 15 years and it was falling to bits. I am aware the couch is perhaps a little large for the living space but too late now!

I am hopeless at interior design which you will see 😂 however, to brighten the sofa up would bright orange cushions be okay? I think plum and orange goes well? Kind of like, navy and mustard yellow.

If not orange what colour?

Also, was thinking about getting a side table to go next to the sofa along the feature wall and a floor lamp to go beside the sofa along the window.

Anyone any advice/ideas?

Orange cushions would be great, but the pastel pink rug would need changing.

PaddyDingDong · 03/02/2023 13:27

Nothing really goes in that room. The sofas don't go with the carpet, walls or rug. I have no real suggestions but I love the sofas - I'd repaint and remove the rug/change it. I personally don't think orange would go either. But everyone is different.

MoneyInTheBananaStand · 03/02/2023 13:29

Orange wouldn't go. If you want a contrasting colour yellow would be better but it wouldn't go with the rest of the room.

Why not a bright pink? Would go with the rug and be a similar tone to the sofa.

Eastereggsboxedupready · 03/02/2023 13:31

Omg I want those sofas!

InspectorPaws · 03/02/2023 13:31

Kindly, I wouldn’t think that anything in that room goes with anything else from an objective or generally accepted view - but everyone’s taste is different. If I were dead set that it had to be those sofas then I’d change everything else (the walls, the floors, the rug). I’d then attempt to match with maybe white cushions? I don’t know though - I think orange would give a bit of a Willy Wonka/FedEx/Sainsbury’s uniform vibe.

CrazyCorgi · 03/02/2023 13:32

Why would you even buy bright orange cushions let alone those sofas

Merlott · 03/02/2023 13:32

Go all out in jewel toned velvet.

Bright pink, orange, teal blue, lime green.

All different shapes and sizes.

Would look great with that wallpaper.

Stick a crystal shade on the lamp, some feature table lamps on some cute round tray tables.

Maybe even a big sheepskin (faux!) rug to layer onto the Persian style one you already have.

I'm getting a very luxe maximalist vibe!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/02/2023 13:33

I'd get rid of the rug and take it from there. Too much going on and nothing goes with anything else.

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/02/2023 13:33

The sofas are fab and orange would look great with them, but I agree with others that the room is a bit out of sync at the moment. Are you up for decorating the room more generally?

Notimeforaname · 03/02/2023 13:35

Agree with others. Nothing goes in that room. Orange would just be another colour thrown into the mix.

I love them 😃

Personally, I would go with a 'sharp' colour; acid green, silver, or bright yellow.

Orange could work but there's a risk with some shades that it would clash a bit with the purple of the sofa.

Or you could try something monochrome, but with a quirky graphic or illustration; like the Fornasetti cushion (hopefully) pictured.

I think if you take out the wallpaper and work with the pink wall and rug and purple sofa, it would look great. Hot pink velvet cushions.

KnittedCardi · 03/02/2023 13:38

The ecclesiastical purple and the pagan orange symbolizing the mystical symbiosis in marriage between the heathen and Christian traditions?

Sorry had to quote Four Weddings. No, but yes. Orange and Purple sit opposite on the colour wheel. Entirely possible. But as with other pp's the pink wall and rug will have to go.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 03/02/2023 13:38

As it stands, definitely do not buy orange cushions.

Your best bet would be to buy pink cushions to tie in with the pink of the rug and the pink of the wall and bring it all together.

If you have your heart set on the orange cushions, you'll need to paint your walls a neutral colour and get an orange rug.

Love the sofa but the rest of the room needs a change to go with it. So, I'm telling you to redecorate around the sofas as I love them 😂

I don't think I'd go with orange. Maybe yellow.

But get rid of the rug and repaint if possible

Motelschmotel · 03/02/2023 13:41

Emerald green cushions. Navy rug with emerald green pattern.

Actually, just seen you have a pink wall and pink rug! Too many complementary colours there. You need a contrast. Acid yellow, maybe. Not orange. It’s too strong. What colour are your curtains?

Theres a lot of action going on in that room already. I think you have no choice but to embrace it now! Plants, leafy green plants will help break it up

adognamedrover · 03/02/2023 13:42

I think you need to go jewel tones too. Emerald green, bright pink, oranges etc.

Workbaseddrama · 03/02/2023 13:44

You want to go in the same tonal palette and go pinks, blues, turquoise... Really flamboyant colours with the walls in a yellow and the flooring tiled or wood

NoSquirrels · 03/02/2023 13:46

adognamedrover · 03/02/2023 13:42

I think you need to go jewel tones too. Emerald green, bright pink, oranges etc.

Do this - if you love the orange cushions you should have them.

You just also need a new rug and to paint the wall (or different wallpaper).

They’re lovely sofas and an excellent cat.

MissMaple82 · 03/02/2023 13:47

I too think green. I think it goes with the wallpaper. Lovely sofas

Survey99 · 03/02/2023 13:48

I am aware the couch is perhaps a little large for the living space but too late now!

It is a living space for sitting in! Size seems perfect and practical to me unless you were planning on doing laps around the sofas!

Love the sofas but the rest of the decor doesn't really go, changing the rug might help pull it together.

Hoppinggreen · 03/02/2023 13:48

I think I would try and tie it all together with cushions that had the wall, rug and sofa colours in

GoldenCupidon · 03/02/2023 13:49

If you like the other colours there I wonder if you could do everyone a favour and stick to grey/black cushions, including patterns/textures. (That's assuming you don't want to do something completely different on the walls, which I would want to.)

I bloody love a hot orange too but I think it's a bit much to expect it to go next to calamine lotion pink and look nice.
