To put bright orange cushions on this sofa?

herapotomus · 03/02/2023 13:24

Just got this plum sofa, had last sofa for 15 years and it was falling to bits. I am aware the couch is perhaps a little large for the living space but too late now!

I am hopeless at interior design which you will see 😂 however, to brighten the sofa up would bright orange cushions be okay? I think plum and orange goes well? Kind of like, navy and mustard yellow.

If not orange what colour?

Also, was thinking about getting a side table to go next to the sofa along the feature wall and a floor lamp to go beside the sofa along the window.

Anyone any advice/ideas?

That rug is gorgeous @Survey99 .

Then you can manage to mix/match the cushions to the rug and everything will tie together.

I'd go for turquoise/sapphire blue or really scarlett reds, definitely what @Merlott has posted about the jewel colours.

I have orange cushions, and even I wouldn’t put orange cushions on that sofa.

I think you need to get rid of the pink rug and pink wall, to begin with. They don’t work.

Your best bet is probably jewel colours- emerald/dark turquoise/sapphire /jade shades, maybe the odd splash of a citrine yellow. Metallic accessories -gold or a darker grey like pewter perhaps.

Don’t love the wallpaper TBH, but if you like it it could work with that style.

Deep emerald green or rich blue colours would look good. Agree that the walls and rug don't go.
Repaint the walls and get rid/change the rug and it will look very different. Live the sofas though!

inappropriateraspberry · 03/02/2023 13:53

These colours are great together!

Show us the cushions, OP?

LookItsMeAgain · 03/02/2023 13:56

You seem to have silver/pewter on the walls and the curtains so I'd go with that.

Something like these or these might work.

Maybe this or these ones might also work

stoodmyground · 03/02/2023 14:04

Nothing goes in that room. The sofa is great and orange cushions would be fine. But the rug and wall look awful together.

This rug from Ikea is nice if you like colours and want to continue with the colours you have.

Agree on the jewel tones. Technically yes, orange goes with purple, but not with the grey and pink you’ve already got going on in there. If you’re keeping the rest or the decor I’d probably go with silver/grey tones cushions to try and tie everything together.

AltheaVestr1t · 03/02/2023 14:06

I always think orange and purple looks like Halloween. 😁

It does. Yellow mustard-y colour would look better.

skippymcflippy · 03/02/2023 14:09

The rug needs to go.
I'd get rid of the pink walls too - probably paint them light grey.
Then once I'd done that I'd think about jazzing it all up with brighter colours - cushions and rugs, possibly new curtains.

If you can't afford to paint then you need to ditch the idea of the orange cushions because they really wouldn't go and choose some nice cushions in shades of grey. And still get rid of the rug. I don't mind the rug - but it just does not go with the sofas.

These colours are great together!

This is almost exactly what I had in mind with my first post! Leafy green plants, emerald green, navy rug. Gorgeous colours. But I do think this works because of the wall colour. Introducing pink and grey on the walls could make things very busy. But the plants would help break it all up.

ApolloandDaphne · 03/02/2023 14:12

I think the sofas are fine with the pink and grey already there but I wouldn't add bright orange into the mix.

Go all out in jewel toned velvet.

Bright pink, orange, teal blue, lime green.

All different shapes and sizes.

Would look great with that wallpaper.

Stick a crystal shade on the lamp, some feature table lamps on some cute round tray tables.

Maybe even a big sheepskin (faux!) rug to layer onto the Persian style one you already have.

I'm getting a very luxe maximalist vibe!

Everyone’s taste is different but I think the rug and sofa together are fine. But colours added in to tie it all together are needed. And pictures on the walls.

RosyDawn · 03/02/2023 14:16

If you scroll down here there’s an image of a purple sofa with orange cushions and also pale pink in the other decor. But also more colours as well.

MistletoeandBaileys · 03/02/2023 14:17

I love those sofas!! And they recline!!! I think bright orange cushions would definitely go but the rug and the pale pink on the walls don’t go of you get me?

I love colour so I would probably paint the walls a bright orange colour or a purple and then get the bright orange cushions

HiddenGiraffes · 03/02/2023 14:22

Could you go for a sort of tonal selection, along these lines? I'm not sure about incorporating the rug, it might work, but I reckon you should paint the walls.

I've got dark orange sofa with a purple. blue and orange cushions
They look great imo

Go for it. They're only cushions you can always swap them in years to come if you fancy a change.

Lilyhatesjaz · 03/02/2023 14:34

Get the orange cushions, paint the walls brown or dark green and you will have time travelled to my school in the 1970s

CrystalCoco · 03/02/2023 14:36

Merlott · 03/02/2023 13:38

😍

Absolutely go with this colour scheme, it's beautiful! (for the whole room - don't stop with cushions)
Oh and I love your sofas too!

Sabrinasouffle · 03/02/2023 14:36

The pink wall and rug is the issue. Get rid of those. Orange would not go. Turquoise or gold yes.

pattihews · 03/02/2023 14:41

Yellow is the complementary colour but wouldn't recommend. A strong green (emerald) or tonal colour (deep rich yellow-based pink) would work. You're going to have to redecorate and re carpet the entire room, though. The carpet will never work with that colour. And I do mean the carpet, not the rug which is going to have to go today.

Bold choice. Most people would spend their big money on something more neutral and then accessorise with colour.

BreviloquentBastard · 03/02/2023 14:43

Is that... The finished look? Like the carpet, rug, and wall paper are on purpose?

If so... Absolutely not to orange.

wickerhearth · 03/02/2023 14:43

Looks fab, I would go for blush pink, dusky pink, gold - different shapes and textures.

wickerhearth · 03/02/2023 14:44

Also electric blue would look great.
