To put bright orange cushions on this sofa?

herapotomus · 03/02/2023 13:24

Just got this plum sofa, had last sofa for 15 years and it was falling to bits. I am aware the couch is perhaps a little large for the living space but too late now!

I am hopeless at interior design which you will see 😂 however, to brighten the sofa up would bright orange cushions be okay? I think plum and orange goes well? Kind of like, navy and mustard yellow.

If not orange what colour?

Also, was thinking about getting a side table to go next to the sofa along the feature wall and a floor lamp to go beside the sofa along the window.

Anyone any advice/ideas?

I just want to see a picture of the dogs

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/02/2023 14:53

I agree with jewel colours. Change the rug, paint the pink wall one of the jewel colours and try to work the carpet / wallpaper into the scheme.

Why would you even buy bright orange cushions let alone those sofas

What a horrible comment - OP has just bought these sofas. She loves them I presume. They mightn't be to your taste, but it's such a mean thing to comment like this.

I like the sofas, but agree with PPs re: changing the decor which I think can be done easily / cheaply enough. Enjoy your sofas OP!

herapotomus · 03/02/2023 14:57

I'm going to change the rug and the feature wall

😍

Interesting, that dark teal is exactly the kind of wall colour I envisioned when I saw the purple sofas. It makes the room a bit dark of course, but would look much better than the current walls!

Augend23 · 03/02/2023 15:03

I'd start by Googling "purple sofa room ideas" and see where you get to - you can see then that they tend to either be put with creamy-oatmealy colours, rich jungly greens, the odd one that's teal..if you specifically Google purple and orange there are definitely ones that work, but I think it would require more thought than the greens etc.

ButteryNuts · 03/02/2023 15:12

I don't think you need to change the rug. I like it. Pink and purple are hardly clashing colours - there's even purple in the rug.

I would go for blue and pale pink coloured cushions to help bring the rug and sofa together, and add dimension.

Definitely agree with a big beautiful plant or two.

The biggest thing for me is the walls. They need to change to make it all work.

See these colour pallets for ideas. You could do pale and use these toned accessories, or do the full walls/feature walls in a similar colour.

You probably need to think about the wall colouring etc.

Purple sofas look good in a traditional house ...

Do what makes you happy!
Not what makes others happy. You will be sitting there, not random people from pinterest😁

Purple, grey and orange seem to look good in these photos. Maybe lose the rug, repaint the walls a silver grey and then go for bright (orange, pink) cushions or muted ones (dark grey, navy, lavender) and have a pop of colour elsewhere (lampshades, flowers).

I agree with the posters voting for cushions that tie the colours in together.

More traditional style here

ChrisPPancake · 03/02/2023 15:24

I'd probably pick yellow/gold rather than orange personally.

Hadjab · 03/02/2023 15:27

I’d change the wallpaper for a deep green, along with the orange cushions and the pink rug

Go all out in jewel toned velvet.

Bright pink, orange, teal blue, lime green.

All different shapes and sizes.

Would look great with that wallpaper.

Stick a crystal shade on the lamp, some feature table lamps on some cute round tray tables.

Maybe even a big sheepskin (faux!) rug to layer onto the Persian style one you already have.

I'm getting a very luxe maximalist vibe!

These are some of my new cushions - the purple one looks like your sofa, and I think it goes really well with the burnt orange cushion next to it - so that could give you an idea of how a similar cushion would look on your couch.

I went for 4 different colours - the pink, purple and orange you see in the picture, and teal. If you want, I can dig out the listing I bought them from - it was either Amazon or EBay.

Personally I’d go for some sort of teal or turquoise or something neutral with a bit of texture e.g. chunky cable knit or a long angora - or both!

herapotomus · 03/02/2023 15:45

What about this wall paper to replace the silver, this rug and jewel tone cushions (different colours). A big floor plant in corner, a round side table with a new lamp? Will get new light shade and new curtains when I have more money lol

GORGEOUS sofas OP.
I have nothing else to add!

Agapornis · 03/02/2023 15:54

OP, pick what YOU like, not what other people like. I have an equally great love of patterns and saturated colour. Look up maximalism, it doesn't all have to be matchy-matchy. I use coolors.co to find colour palettes that go with my more outré interior choices. My home has warm yellow, pink, orange, turquoise, green, black for contrast. I love it and I need to live with it!

Agapornis · 03/02/2023 15:55

P.s. any chance of cute dog photos?!

AlwaysUtterChaos · 03/02/2023 15:58

Maybe a colour scheme along these lines OP if you like some bolder colours thrown in, you could do a whole mix and match and it would still work well together.
Personally... I LOVE your sofas!

Leave the wall paper but paint the wall
Match the cushions to the curtains and wall paper.

The sofas are gorgeous

Beautiful rug, when those tassels are straight like on the photo..which sadly they won’t be. No to the fake wood wallpaper.

This is a good idea. It would pull all the disparate bits together. Maybe go for softer colours - some dusky rose and faded orange velvets with some teal too, pulling in the colours of the walls and rugs in an intentionally eclectic, maximalist way. I think that could look great!
