How long between asking and getting ears pierced?

Assuming you are happy they are old enough to make the decision and look after them, how long was it between your child first asking to get their ears pierced and you letting them get it done?

Please no discussion about piercing babies or toddlers ears. They are too young to decide or give consent so it isn't relevant to this discussion.

I find this a bit weird… do you do everything she asks ‘as soon as is practical’? So, for example, she asked for a toy costing £60… would you say ‘of course, I’ll buy it as soon as I can get to the shop’? And if you got it home and she didn’t like it, would you just say ‘never mind, we’ll send it to charity’?
Ear piercing is a want, not a need, so I find it strange people saying things like ‘if mine asked if take them the very next weekend’. Unless they generally just really spoil their kids and give them whatever they ask for, as soon as they ask?

No, not particularly spoilt really. She has more than that in her savings and if she chooses to get it done then that’s fine. We might chip in or even pay it all depending on cost at our local place.

she may need to wait a few weeks if our weekends are looking busy or if they have no availability. But if she wants to do it and it is affordable etc then why not.

and if she got a toy and didn’t play with it as much as she thought she would, I’d help her sell it on or maybe give it to a charity shop. Let someone else enjoy it. But no we don’t buy her anything she wants.

We’re fortunate that we can give our kids everything they need and some of the things they want. What’s wrong with having some wants fulfilled as well as needs??

My DD first asked when she was about 8, I said no, and she had to wait until she was at least 11 (I'm not too keen on jewellery on young children). She didn't ask again, but when she was 12 , I asked her if she wanted them done, and she said no!

She eventually decided to have them done at 15, and now at 17, has four piercings each ear, her belly button, nose and eyebrow! And wants more. She's very lucky that school sixth form are very relaxed about it.
