I am from the South and happen to think both Manchester AND Liverpool have a pretty special vibe.

Also people from Newcastle are fab too!

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 23:08

@pigsinoodies Piccadilly gold 1152..I’m going pretty far back to when I was a kid

James Stannage was brilliant. Didn’t he get sacked and moved to the States?

I used to work in the offices above the Hacienda. Spent every lunchtime in the Briton’s Protection.

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 23:09

@mommatoone I know 😞
I was just a bit too young to be going out raving, but you could feel it in the air, that excitement

@UrsulaPandress Oh really?! I’m not sure, I can imagine him getting sacked 🙈His talk shows were brilliant, he was pretty controversial

You're younger than me then. 261 all the way. And Pips is 'behind the Cathedral'.

And a smirk when the 'Gina' ads pop up nowadays and you just think 'Mike Sweeney'.

PermanentlyinUAT · 01/02/2023 23:16

People were raising you Glasgow, Liverpool, Birmingham, Yorkshire early on in the thread. I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned London further down but London is the absolute bollox. Almost everyone disagrees, but I know I’m right.

Ndd135632 · 01/02/2023 23:19

What’s wrong with Norwich ffs

PMSL.

Yes, the site is still there. The building isn't. Something you obviously didn't realise.

As for me, Placemates, Rotters, Legends, Tropicana etc. then Playpen, Hacienda etc. Nowadays Horlicks and Netflix. Still a Manc though thanks.

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 23:20

@Ndd135632 😂

Toddlerteaplease · 01/02/2023 23:21

Liverpool, much nicer. And a nicer city.

Mammyloveswine · 01/02/2023 23:21

Don't be trying to get the support for the cup final... EVERY neutral is a TOON fan

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 23:23

There is one thing and one thing only that comes out of this thread. The Brits are the funniest. You can cut it by region or town or city. Darnt matter. We are the funniest. That said by somebody who has been married to two foreigners right (humour everyone please). Brits are funniest. Stop the debate.

mommatoone · 01/02/2023 23:27

@pigsinoodies - of course i realise - i walked past the thing everyday!!! But if you were a tourist here and didn't know any different- thats what they would tell you. Manc here too - enjoy your horlicks. Same here arr kid

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 23:27

@Ndd135632 They are, you’re right…butttt, IF it had to be pushed further, there’s no doubt that Northerners are the funniest of all, soz, but it’s true 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Ndd135632 · 01/02/2023 23:29

@Yousillybugger ok I give you that. The funniest of the funniest in the world. We can all live with that right.

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 22:46

@Pieceofpurplesky @mommatoone
Mine were Paradise factory, Sankies, Boardwalk (absolute fave!) Bowlers..mainly house etc, but there was the indie one-fifth Avenue..ahh..

Remember the PSV in Hulme? Aka The Caribbean Club

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 23:32

@Pieceofpurplesky No 😞What years? I was mid 90’s to late 90’s

OP posts:
mommatoone · 01/02/2023 23:34

@Pieceofpurplesky - gosh yeh i remember this!! Think was early 90s?

RedToothBrush · 01/02/2023 23:37

MadamAndTheAnts · 01/02/2023 20:31

There really isn’t.

Mancs have the same mix of attributes as pretty much any British city.

There is however, a certain middle aged cohort who think it is special because between 1978 and 1990 it produced a handful of decent bands, yet little music of note since.

Totally disagree with this.

Living between Liverpool and Manchester for much of my life, and going to another city for uni there is a massive cultural and social difference between cities.

It's not about 90s bands. It's about general attitude to life and other people.

Pieceofpurplesky · 01/02/2023 23:38

@mommatoone @Yousillybugger I used to go late 80s (87 onwards).
Was such a brilliant place - from the reggae upstairs where they used to get a giant flag out and shake it, to
The decks in tables downstairs.
We got tear-gassed in there one night!
Mad music too and a more arty crowd than the Hacienda (also a regular haunt of mine)
