@Pieceofpurplesky - gosh yeh i remember this!! Think was early 90s?

PSV was 70s to at least early 90s.

mommatoone · 01/02/2023 23:42

@MadamAndTheAnts - I'm sure a lot of us Mancunians would be happy to show how diverse and cultural the city it is. Its only the old fogies like me and a few others that are are reminiscing!!!

Pouffeycat · 01/02/2023 23:43

The North, my North.
The pain between the eyes....
By birth I am a Manc.
Life has sent me all over.
Mancs are funny in a dry way. Scourers are more overt. Yorkshire, blunt funny.

Lived in the south and abroad.

It's the everyday humour that you don't get everywhere. You do in the north. In a passing way. A shop,at the train station,on the bus.

Singmesomethingnew · 01/02/2023 23:45

@Pouffeycat Perfectly put, I miss it.

maddy68 · 01/02/2023 23:52

I agree. I have lived all over the UK. Northerners rock!

Singmesomethingnew · 01/02/2023 23:53

@DeirdreRashid Why so, Deirdre?

And yet your name is so... 'Northern'

Crikeyalmighty · 02/02/2023 00:03

Not from there -but personally I will raise you the scousers and Geordies- who I find nicer.

StrapOnYourHeroHair · 02/02/2023 06:11

Songbird54321 · 01/02/2023 21:56

You are correct. Geordie here with Glaswegian grandparents and I think I'm lovely 😂

I don’t doubt it! 😂

x2boys · 02/02/2023 06:32

BloodAndFire · 01/02/2023 21:28

I did once have a friend from Salford/Eccles, who helpfully informed me: "If you ever meet a coloured person, right, don't call them coloured. They don't like that. Just call them black."

Me, born and bred in London: 😬🤐😳

So yeah... maybe there is something a bit special. But not quite the way you meant it, I don't think.

So how n the basis of you once meeting a person from Salford which by the way is a city in its own right and NOT Manchester you are writing off Manchester ?🙄
I did my Nurse training in Salford in the 90, s and yes,as I recall Eccles wasent particularly culturally diverse at the time ,however Salford now have MEDIA,CITY.....

Willyoujustbequiet · 02/02/2023 07:20

StrapOnYourHeroHair · 01/02/2023 20:53

Nah, Geordies are best. Followed by Glaswegians.

This.

Geordies are a different league. Newcastle all the way.

Ifailed · 02/02/2023 07:23

Salford isn't Manchester, it's a city in it's own right.

Apart from being the wrong side of the Pennines...

Yep, this.

FledglingFountainPen · 02/02/2023 08:00

I grew up in Kent and think it's a shithole, never been proud.
Yorkshire is the best imho.

MadamAndTheAnts · 02/02/2023 08:23

Twawmyarse2 · 01/02/2023 22:28

Well he definitely lives/lived in Manchester for years! Maybe he tired of Hull🤣

Or he may have been a frequent visitor of Badly Drawn Boy, who lived around the corner- used to see him regularly though.

Wow! You actually saw Badly Drawn Boy - please tell us more.

MadamAndTheAnts · 02/02/2023 08:35

RedToothBrush · 01/02/2023 23:37

Totally disagree with this.

Living between Liverpool and Manchester for much of my life, and going to another city for uni there is a massive cultural and social difference between cities.

It's not about 90s bands. It's about general attitude to life and other people.

You need to get around the UK (and the world) more.

There isn’t a “massive” cultural and societal difference between Manchester and any other provincial city.

I accept there may be a certain pride among some based on football, and a dwindling cultural capital around music. That’s hardly a “massive” difference though. And such pride exists in many places around local activities.

Pieceofpurplesky · 01/02/2023 22:40

Doves
Courteeners
Pale
Waves
1975
Blossoms
Slow Readers Club

Just a few brilliant bands

Where?

CurrentHun · 02/02/2023 08:38

Oh please. Provincial cities are not interchangeable. Only someone from a boring city or from London could think that.
They all have their own characteristics, demographics and histories and economies. Of course some of them are going to have more about them than others do.

They have nuances, sure, but no “massive differences” between them, which as the comment I was responding to.

All the stuff you mention is just surface fluff. It doesn’t matter that much.

I think that's the funniest thing I'm going to read today.

I've lived abroad. Been around the world. When following bands I met more people than the average person going around the country and world. I was meeting people online (and then in person) years before other people.

I can categorically tell you there's significant cultural differences when you start looking and spending real time with people.

Oh dear that really has made me chuckle.

RedToothBrush · 02/02/2023 09:07

Obviously you of course are massively well travelled and have hundreds of friends...

Please enlighten us all on your superior wisdom based on your Michael Palinesqe lifestyle
