The typical visitor's first impression of Manchester is Piccadilly Gardens. That tells you all you need to know.

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 21:03

@iklboo Oh, but I am 😂

Farindes · 01/02/2023 21:05

Lived there 10 years and I never understood the 'we're from Manchester, we do things differently round here'. Yes people are friendly but same as any other northern city/ town

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 21:05

@Ifailed It’s a shame, Piccadilly gardens were nice back when I was a kid. Of course the state of that area doesn’t represent all the people of Manchester though, does it

We used to live there. I liked it for a while but it was so grey and wet that I ended up feeling hugely depressed. Plus being in South Manchester meant all the Cheshire Pressure shit.
Back down South now and whilst I miss it a bit, my garden isn’t like a pond and I don’t feel like a homeless person on the school run simply because I’m not dolled up.

Faradalla · 01/02/2023 21:06

Sorry @Yousillybugger I didn't mean to piddle on your parade. The curry mile is great, lots of great restaurants, lots of charming buildings, great public transport, cool retro scene in the Northern Quarter etc. Lots going for it, but it was just a weird experience for us.

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 21:07

@WishIdDoneItYearsAgo Were you in Alderley Edge?

I remember sitting in Picadilly Gardens just enjoying a fresh Spring Day, when a stranger approached me and asked me to go to his flat for sex. Seriously, I must have attracted every weirdo in that city 😄

Neverplayleapfrogwithmrpipes · 01/02/2023 21:10

Yep! I'm half Welsh half greater Manchester and it's a cool combo

secretllama · 01/02/2023 21:10

Jota67 · 01/02/2023 20:58

I 4th Glasgow but also love Scousers and Geordies ❤️

Agree with this... UKs 3 best cities right there!

reddwarfgeek · 01/02/2023 21:11

Yes, we are fantastic 😊

OoooohMatron · 01/02/2023 21:13

I second Brummies. Hilarious. Scousers are great if you are also a scouser, they hate everyone else. Mancs think they're to cool for school because of the 90s scene.

No, but close; Wilmslow!

ironingboredrefusal · 01/02/2023 21:15

Irish Mancs are the best

Hups · 01/02/2023 21:17

Mankies.

Oh, I can't stand that quote. Every time I see it anywhere, I think 'No, you don't'.

Stone roses, The charltons, New order-started pre 90’s obviously, but were still going strong in the 90’s

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 21:22

Cheshire pressure...... brilliant.

Isleoftights · 01/02/2023 21:22

Mancs, yes, so special that when they tried a communal bikes scheme (works perfectly well in London), they were either appropriated for personal use, or ended up in the canal, and the scheme had to be swiftly abandoned. Give me Glaswegians or Geordies, any day - but not Mancs (and I am one).

Yousillybugger · 01/02/2023 21:23

@WishIdDoneItYearsAgo Ahh so close 😅
