My dd knows a girl called Bambi. I wonder if it's the same one!

Butchyrestingface · 01/02/2023 01:02

Intimations of Jeremy Bamber flooded my brain but that could just be me showing my age...

Definitelycross · 01/02/2023 01:12

Adviceneeded200 · 31/01/2023 19:47

Reminds me of The Young Ones!

Second child Neil, third Jertzy!

😂😂

Mavericksaviators · 01/02/2023 01:44

Not as bad as what my daughters dad had in mind ‘aqua topaz - stephy sue. My cat is called maverick ( apt username) 😂

JeepersCreepersWheredYaGetThosePeepers · 01/02/2023 03:07

Showing my age ... the first thing I thought of was Bamber Gascoigne!

The baby has it on her clothes and her nursery wall. The mum said months ago she had something unusual chosen from her childhood that people would most likely hate. It’s a fair assumption this is the babys full name.

Well that’s just unhinged isn’t it?! Here I am trying to give them the benefit of doubt

nalabae · 01/02/2023 03:16

My friends child is called bambi. I think it’s a nice name?

Cocochat · 01/02/2023 03:27

Surely it’s just a derivative of bambina (bambino for a male) and means baby.

namechangeforthisbleep · 01/02/2023 04:28

It's just a word. Why do people get so caught up in what others name their kids. It's really strange. I just get told someone's name and that's that. Wouldn't bat an eyelid at Bambi in their thirties or whatever.

SunshineAndFizz · 01/02/2023 04:35

@weepsamore never heard of Tyson Fury?!

This one is 8 days old.

Mummadeze · 01/02/2023 06:30

I love them. And I love the name. Bambi. It sounds beautiful to me.

NUTELLAPEANUTBUTTTTEERRRRRRR · 01/02/2023 06:36

Leave them alone.
Grow up.
Imagine coming onto mumsnet as a grown adult to slag off a name.

Yeah, and? Some names are objectively stupid or have questionable connotation or have a great potential to cause embarressment and bullying to the child.

It's not immature to point that out.

You grow up.

As per previous posts; many “normal” names have potential for embarrassment and bullying. By choosing a bog standard name, you’re not ensuring your child will never be bullied for it.

QueSyrahSyrah · 01/02/2023 07:22

@LaLuz7 That's a bit rich from someone this time yesterday had no idea why the name Myra might be problematic.

I'd rather be named after a cartoon deer than one of the world's most notorious female child killers 🤷🏻‍♀️

There are so many 'objectively stupid' names around these days that I don't particularly think a privileged young lady going to private schools and unlikely to end up 'Bambi on the tills at Tesco' will struggle, or even stick out especially amongst her uniquely named peers.

I'm unsure why you've taken such a vitriolic hatred towards it / them as to have repeatedly posted your extreme reaction, but perhaps today you'll find something to take your mind of it.

Swiftswatch · 01/02/2023 07:24

To be honest I think the people who perpetuate the idea that she could never be a lawyer, consultant, other highly respected professional job because of the name her parents gave her are a bigger problem.

No, you can never bring that risk down to zero. But a standard common name sure minimises that risk compared to a name such as Bambi or Prince or Heir or Hero which are much more likely to be mocked. Are you seriously trying to tell me an Anna has the same risk of being ridiculed over her name as an Armani does?

Wearing a seat belt doesn't guarantee you absolutely won't die in a crash, bit it's still a grea idea. It's the very same concept.

I’m glad you used Anna as your example. In my high school, the Anna in my class was mercilessly bullied for years as Fanny Annie. When you’ve got teen boys & boys sticking sanitary towels to your hair on the school bus, or drawing vaginas on your books and your school bag, I reckon she’d of taken Armani!
Funnily enough; the main culprit (and the main bully in our school with plenty of followers) was Liesel (pronounced to rhyme with Diesel) so yes, I am seriously trying to tell you you’re wrong. The second worst affected was Ruby. Originally known as rubes by friends, she was soon pubes and had all sorts of horrific bullying about being called Pubes.

Inyournightgarden · 01/02/2023 07:37

its a tacky council estate name, sorry if that offends but it absolutely is, give it a year or two and there’ll be Bambi’s on every council estate in the country, oh deer

I think you need to grow up yourself babe, and thankfully you won’t have to do it with a Disney animal name.

OP posts:
Babsexxx · 01/02/2023 08:14

I don’t think it’s a bad name I quite like it, it’s a traditional Italian name despite the obvious disney film connection, I don’t know why people are being so spiteful over it including OP.

GoAgainstNicki · 01/02/2023 08:14

What’s wrong with naming your child Myra??

So because there’s people in the world that have done awful things, you can’t name your child the same name regardless of whether you like it or not? It’s not as if you’re literally naming your child after this killer or however she is

I can't find a single Italian person with this name. I call bullshit on it being traditional. Italians are not daft enough to call a baby girl the Italian diminutive word for baby girl. It's not a thing. Stop taking your info from shady baby name websites.
