There's been criticism in the press over the sexualisation/borderline pornography on the video. I've just watched it. It just seems pretty misogynistic to me. He appears to smash a wine glass onto a woman's head and then it looks as though the women are being urinated upon (although it's not clear ...maybe it was meant to be champagne). What are other people's interpretation/views on it. I may well be mistaken.

Haven’t watched the video but there seems to be a bit of a trend recently of using kinks in things like advertising etc. I know there’s a big thing on TT about not “kink shaming”.

I do think there is a boundary between exploring sexuality positivity and just being inappropriate. Where that boundary is differs for everyone I expect

😂

DomPom47 · 30/01/2023 17:28

I would not let primary school aged children watch it. I m old school when it comes to my music and don’t see the need to sexualise everything. So much of contemporary music will not pass the test of time. Can’t see my own grand or great grandkids listening to that song and think wow.

I feel bad for laughing but fuck it 🤣

Its not at all shocking, its contrived as all fuck.

Anyone clutching their pearls at this should maybe consider Sam Smith just isnt their cup of tea and go back to watching Countdown or whatever.

The song is shit and the video is awful.

I prefer to 8 Out Of 10 Cats to Countdown.

Bullies stick together I guess

I haven’t watched it but I actually used to follow him on Instagram and then recently removed him.

He is non-binary - fine.
But I feel he is acting like he is transgender and his photos are very feminine but in a way that I find offensive.

I can’t put my finger on it and I’d usually celebrate someone being unique and not sticking to their gender stereotypes but I feel like he’s taking it too far and it’s almost making a mockery of women.

lifeturnsonadime · 30/01/2023 17:24

Not a twitter user then!

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Fairlybear · 30/01/2023 17:34

I really liked their first album- full of decent songs and a really beautiful voice which sold itself. Whatever this pathetic, attention seeking tripe is ain't it.

lyson · 30/01/2023 17:35

He just seemed so annoying

Yes this is how I feel.

Alongside this I hate the way the media has changed towards SS. Keep seeing things like”Sam smith stuns crowd in fab yellow short shorts”.
never did I see articles like that before Sam said he was Non Binary. My question is why? Does being NB or being a woman mean that clothes are suddenly important when they weren’t before? Also most of the clothes/ appearances were awful so it also seemed like an article for the sake of it, not even praising a genuinely nice outfit.

just don’t get it

I'm not watching it - don't want him to get the YouTube view count.

this. He's looking for attention.

Doyoumind · 30/01/2023 17:41

It makes me cringe how hard it tries to be edgy. It's not sophisticated in the slightest, just a bit desperate.

100% trying to imply golden showers. Not saying kids would get it, but it's definitely the intention. Or bukkake. Bodily fluids whatever.

The bottle throwing is out of order.

SS does not look fabulous at any point.

HashtagShitShop · 30/01/2023 17:41

He wants (needs) to be talked about so he can complain he's being talked about 🙄

Yes it means that the person is very very special.

It means that they get to remove sex categories at the Brits so that there can no longer be a best female artist category which resulted in no females being nominated this year. Then they can parade their urine fetish around in music videos which will be watched mostly by kids and we are all pearl clutching bigots for not applauding their bravery.

Will ya stop Frankie Goes to Hollywood were jizzing on people in the 80's.

The argument that we are horrified because he dresses outside gender norms is tiresome. I was a child in the 70's, glam rock was everywhere. In the 80s we had people like Marilyn in skirts and Prince in lace. Even metal bands wore more make up than your average woman.
Anyfucker is right, he has no charisma.
Marilyn etc had it in spades.

Why does he think we want to see them? 😫

Tamarindtree · 30/01/2023 17:51

He looks unhealthy. The costumes do him no favours at all.
