Why do people keep voting the tortes in again and again

Thomasina79 · 29/01/2023 18:34

Not wanting an argument, just wondering. Another Tory has been dismissed for dishonesty and day after day we hear of stories about people having to choose between heating and eating. Surely people realise we need a change of government? The NHS and other support services such as teachers are on strike. What next?

This thread makes me think I'm right in a discussion with DP.
He doesn't think anyone in their right mind would vote Tory after this complete and utter disaster of a government, people aren't that silly and won't forget the lies and profiteering while people suffer.
I say turkeys will always vote for Christmas, people have short memories or won't vote for the common good, or will simply vote Tory because "I don't like Labour!"

I get the feeling I may, very sadly, be correct (although I really hope I'm not).

As much as Starmer tries to portray the Labour party as full of normal everyday people, the public perception and the image put across by the right-wing press is that there are a lot of leftist headbangers on the fringes that will try and oust Starmer as soon as they win power, and try to implement their lunatic policies. Starmer needs to shut them down, permanently, make it clear the Labour party is not for them. It's a party for the working people of Britain, how the fuck does the Israel/Palestine conflict fall within the remit of a Liverpool MP? Is everything so good in Liverpool, there are no problems there for her to spend time resolving?

Really? You’re obviously right about the right wing media but, try as it may, it can’t convince most people. Try reading the business press and see which party big business wants to see in power.

The FWR board is good for anyone wanting more info
I dont need more general information, but its great advice for those unsure or need to learn more.

Tigger as said it's all been done to death. Use that curiosity and research. It's a nuanced subject and a little tricky to Access/ break through if you are not already aware of it

No i think you have misunderstood twice now @Floofyduffypuddy i am aware of the discussion and frequent the boards but again i am asking you why you feel that way?

How can you call yourself someone who will only vote for someone who knows what a woman is, but then actually vote for the party enabling it??????

As all these people using trans as a reason to vote tory evade and refuse to the answer the question when plainly put to them.

I can see that the left are more enthral to gender politics that the right.

Once you are able to plainly state biological facts you can move away from a western trend that has grown in many countries.

The SNP shows where it takes you and Sunak reacting to that shows the shift in the right.

Labour are on the fence here, although not in Scotland, but I have not seen any indication they are less enthral to gender politics

Floofyduffypuddy · 01/02/2023 19:21

Tigger, I think we are miscommunicating.

As far as I am aware no prominent member of the conservatives have backed away when asked what woman is? They had to jump in to stop the absolute farce in Scotland?

It's all quite new and was sneaked in as a fait accomlpie so it's roll back time, they may be getting it wrong but they have not verbally betrayed and denied women?

Unfortunately with the whole pink bus, no females pm they really need to get tight on this issue.

Floofyduffypuddy · 01/02/2023 19:23

radrado · 01/02/2023 19:31

unherd.com/2023/01/the-labour-party-has-a-woman-problem/

This for me. Starmer needs to get a handle on the misogynist bullies within. I would love to vote Labour (I may well end up doing so as I’m in a SNP seat and will vote for whoever is most likely to unseat the SNP) And no I don’t think Conservatives are great either! But at least they’re belatedly standing up to this ideology even if they were sleeping on the job when it took hold. In terms of the question about women in the Tory party v Labour how many female Labour leaders have there been?

Boris Johnson has. Rishi Sunak has. Theresa May was the PM who introduced the Trans shitshow. Penny Mordaunt stood atthe Despatch Box and stated TWAW and TMAN in response to commonsense ammendments to a Maternity Bill suggested by the HoL. Jamie Wallis believes he can be a woman.

Apparently Conservatives for Women found that 50% of Tory MPs are TWAW.

I have been asking the same question.

As far as I am aware no prominent member of the conservatives have backed away when asked what woman is?

No, they are saying one thing to grab the headlines of "we know what a woman is" (which people appear to be buying sadly) but then showing you who they are they.
So they are showing you/ proving to you with their actions that they are allowing men to be women.
Do you accept that by the list i have given ???

It's all quite new and was sneaked in as a fait accomlpie so it's roll back time, they may be getting it wrong but they have not verbally betrayed and denied women?

They may not be verbally betraying women but they are Actually physically betraying women.

They are telling you they know what a woman is and are still allowing our spaces and rights to be invaded and irradiated. How much of a kick in teeth do women need to stand up and say no.

They are betraying you as a woman by telling you one thing and doing another.

And i cant believe so many are falling for it. What has sneaked up ?? They have had plenty of time to get on this but they dont care, women are not their priority. Who needs men to erode our rights when women on here wont even admit this government are doing it

Yesterday you had the figure at 75%, good to see the tide so quickly turning.

There are links further upthread. Some to FWR threads. You might also want to check out Gillian Keegan, Minister for Education who could not define the word girl.

@FourTeaFallOut, yesterday I spoke of 3 out of four Tory PMs, named them and linked to what they said.

FourTeaFallOut · 01/02/2023 19:49

Ah, so you did, sorry.

I'm actually okay with that. Given the scale of institutional capture I'm looking for a party that can row back from the nonsense. That's not the Labour Party. Although I'm hopeful this current airing of the issue in the media is forcing some MPs away from the safe harbour of mantras and actually forcing them to own their contradictory positions and harmful fence sitting. Let's see what happens between now and the next g.e. - I'm hopeful that there will be more nuance and common sense in the political sphere by then. We can all hope.

Florenz · 01/02/2023 20:02

If Labour moved towards the centre and got rid of the extremists on their fringes, they'd win a lot more elections, and the Tories would also have to move to the centre to compete. There really aren't that many extreme leftists or extreme rightists out there. Most people are in the centre leaning slightly one way or the other.

I've said before but will again labour need to be centrists and they are lazy they need to be canvassing to get people who work in nursing homes, factory's, warehouses voting.

But they will do the lazy thing and fight for same votes as the torys instead of generating their own.

Thelnebriati · 01/02/2023 23:19

I don't think its laziness that stops Labour from canvassing; they just don't want to listen to voters. They think they know better and want to impose policies on us.
Ask on the Feminist board who's been blocked from emailing their MP. Our emails get screened out. Our MP's are happy to not represent us, you'd think we were the ones trying to change the law.

Blossomtoes · 01/02/2023 23:39

Labour doesn’t really need to do anything. The Tories are winning power for them. Sleaze, greed, cronyism, corruption, arrogance, contempt, incompetence are all adding up to making them unelectable. They’re illustrating perfectly that old adage that opposition’s don’t win elections; governments lose them.

100% - it’s my raison d’etre - you are of course welcome to join me on the “dick bench” due to your comment about “short-term thinking/planning” and your assertions that immigration is not feeding the pyramid and kicking the can down the road.

Of course you may want to ask your partner if you’re allowed.

I’ve never mentioned immigration so you might want to check which other poster you’ve confused me with. You’re on your own on that bench.
