Why do people keep voting the tortes in again and again

Thomasina79 · 29/01/2023 18:34

Not wanting an argument, just wondering. Another Tory has been dismissed for dishonesty and day after day we hear of stories about people having to choose between heating and eating. Surely people realise we need a change of government? The NHS and other support services such as teachers are on strike. What next?

Let’s face it they need the people they call scum to vote for them next time if they want to win.

Nah, the tories are doing such a grand job of killing or scaring off their key demographic that they're not going to win the next election (not that they want to anyway).

Who votes for the tories?

The old, the rich and the better off. The old are dying quicker now thanks to tory austerity, the rich are being scared off because tory ineptitude has curtailed investment opportunities and trashed the economy, the better off are reconsidering because they're being financially impacted by tory mismanagement.

The next year or so will see Rishi's crew of theives asset strip as many public services as possible, while setting fire to the shells that are left behind, before they're kicked out in 24.

The tories have no interest in winning the next election because they know they've fucked up so badly it will be impossible to fix. Better to let Labour take the helm for a few years, let them put out as many fires as they can, while the tories snipe from the sides.

Then once things have been settled and rebuilt the next generation of tories can come back in and repeat the process. So it was, so it is, so it will be.

It’s true people they are calling scum probably don’t care that much but they had so few votes last time it follows that they need the people they hate back.

We’ll see what happens. Labour will likely win, I don’t see much to celebrate but at least other people will be pro U.K. after going on about how bad it is. Silver linings I suppose.

MarshaBradyo · 30/01/2023 12:09

Personally I find the use of the phrase so toe curling student union it just reinforces another part of Labour that is under par.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/01/2023 12:28

@MarshaBradyo, Labour could wipe out the national debt, fix the NHS and provide free drinking water for the entire world and you'd say they were under par cos Keir's beer, boring voice or Angela Rayner.🙄

Mad, isn't it?

People would really sacrifice the country because Rayner used a nasty word

I know some people think this will happen. Fingers crossed hey.

But yeh I don’t share your love. What can you do. When they win I’ll look to the positives where I can - some miseries will be happy to be in U.K. for a change. And I’ll take that.

I just think they’re crap. More than the word but yes it just shows how student union they are.

You don’t, I get it. You’ll never vote Tory. Others are answering the question in the thread from voting pattern.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/01/2023 12:50

The Conservative Party have wrecked the UK, there is no getting away from that. This is not a case of they're all the same. Austerity, Brexit, Self ID, Covid corruption, Trussterfuck economics alongside general Tory incompetence and corruption have brought the country to the brink of bankruptcy its knees. And it will not get better for a long time.

We are a G7 country, but not for much longer because of the Tories.Angry

Abra1t · 29/01/2023 18:37

Because there hasn’t been an election since 2019. When were they supposed to have voted them out?

2019 obviously 🙄 canna believe England fell for their BS and voted them back in after 10 years of austerity while tripling all the national debt accumulated since end of WWII

CrazyLadie · 30/01/2023 13:07

jetadore · 29/01/2023 18:39

The tories appeal to the “I’m alright Jack” mentality which is coincidentally the mentality of most British people, hence they are very popular.

Not true at all, most Brots don't, it's the English that keep voting for them, they and Labour are long dead in Scotland, 19% of the vote

CrazyLadie · 30/01/2023 13:13

Chowtime · 29/01/2023 18:42

Because tory voters are elderly and the elderly are guaranteed the triple pension lock by the tories.

But don't worry, they won't win the next election ( a good election to lose if ever there was one 😁) and then Kier and the cavelry will come along and save us all.

Kier? He is just a red tory, different cheeks of the same ass!!! What kind of labour leader doesn't support the working man getting a fair pay rise or fair working conditions? If the tories get back in it will be his fault because as far as I can see he is not a Labour man. And for the record I don't votenfor the tories

CrazyLadie · 30/01/2023 13:14

Keyansier · 29/01/2023 18:39

IMO you sound quite arrogant and very sure of yourself tbh, and though you look down on others for not thinking the same way you do.

Just illuminating this, as you might not be aware of how your words come across to others.

Tory voters should be looked down on, they look down on the average Joe after all.

OP don't make sense, as PP said there hasn't been an election since 2019.

I might just have some torte instead

Anyone who thought bawbag Boris was gonna be for the UK needs their head read!! I could see what has happened a mile off, as soon as they got rule of the country with no oen overseeing them they wasted 40+ billion filling their mates pockets but can't afford rises for nurses etc, I smell sh1te!!!

Yetvremovung the triple lock has been in cobersation more than once in the last 6 months,

Because Rupert Murdoch tells them to.

Ya got that spot on, the papers are full of lies ans people believe them instead of researching, I think many older people don't realise how our media has been infiltrated

FatSealSmugSoup · 30/01/2023 13:23

Anyone who doesn’t think the west isn’t in decline hasn’t been paying attention. Doesn’t matter who’s got hands on the wheel.

GloomyDarkness · 30/01/2023 13:26

I know which was why despite a very strong local Tory candidate I didn't vote for that party but then I didn't vote for the Labour Mp either - as I don't think she was great and I thought Corby was a complete joke as Labour leader.

I voted for a third party - which other than Labour and conservative was only one not to lose deposit in this seat - and the really bad Labour MP just squeaked in.

Dulra · Today 10:11
As an outsider looking in and reading these comments I think you have had it bad for so long you do not realise it. Your politicians are getting away with so much and everyone seems so apathetic. In any other European country the tories would have been toast long ago.

In which country do you live?

Andante57 · 30/01/2023 13:37

Sorry Dulra I see you’ve mentioned upthread you live in Ireland.

verdantverdure · 30/01/2023 13:42

Our Conservative MP has a sizeable majority, but even he might be out of luck in the next GE. The local immigrant population will vote for him but I don't know who else will. Nobody with eyes.

Personally, I'll tactically vote for anybody who can beat him.

Anybody.

The country can't afford another four years of VIP Lane covid profiteering, sovereignty cancelling Freeports, HS2 corruption and battery manufacturing that takes millions of pounds of public money and never produces a single one.

leilani83 · 30/01/2023 13:51

If I can't vote torte it'll definitely be Labour!

Why do people keep voting the tortes in again and again

At least some other countries have got their hands on the wheel. The Tories have sold the wheels, tyres and everything else they can strip out off the UK before it goes over the cliff.

Notaflippinclue · 30/01/2023 16:10

But they don't know what a woman is for fucks sake - I'll stick

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/01/2023 17:03

Now our fire fighters have voted to strike.

jcyclops · 29/01/2023 20:39

I didn't vote for the Tortes, as they invariably share the Pie unfairly, always promising Jam tomorrow for the rest of us and making a true Eton Mess of things whilst Hobnobbing with rich friends. But in the Roly Poly politics of today, the alternatives are not very appetising. The last non-Torte PM was a Brownie who made a Hash of it, and the current Big Cheese really takes the Biscuit, always sitting on the fence or being concerned with political Trifles, and apparently happy for a Sorbet to self define as Ice Cream. The others are even less attractive, third choice has a leader whose name nobody knows, I think it is Richard, and I Spotted Dick on TV recently, and the final choice is a Deep Fried Mars Bar, which nobody in their right mind wants.

@jcyclops great work 🤣

Abhannmor · 30/01/2023 17:06

They say the USA has no poor people , just temporarily embarrassed millionaires. So when US politicians talk about helping the middle class , they mean working class ppl , not those who attended private schools. Except they can't say working class because that's an insult to the poor millionaires.

Now this mindset has spread to parts of Europe. A friend of mine in London said she hated the Tories but worried that Labour will put up taxes. She was on the dole at the time and doing a few casual shifts as a waitress. Yet in her future fantasy life she was concerned about losing some of her earnings above £150,000 per annum.

I used to think she was an outlier but now I'm not so sure.
