I’m an hour in. it’s a struggle.

I’m baffled at all the Oscar nominations.

Help me. I want to turn it off.

I'm so glad to find other haters! I found it mind numbing. But when I say that I'm treated as though I'm a bit dim and fail to "get it".

Galadriel90 · 28/01/2023 21:17

I loved it. I thought the performances were great, particularly Jamie Lee Curtis and Michelle Yeoh. I liked all the cinematic references in it. I saw it in the cinema, which perhaps helped because it's a proper big screen movie.

the80sweregreat · 28/01/2023 21:17

Michelle Yeoh will deserve her Oscar ( if she gets it) for acting her way through the most baffling film I've ever seen. What it was like to act in must have been torture at times
She gave it 110 percent though !

PuppyMonkey · 28/01/2023 21:20

nothing, nowhere, for a very long time

When I was watching it I thought it was just ok but when it finished I decided it was actually good.
Just rewatched it last night with DH.

the80sweregreat · 28/01/2023 21:22

It reminded me a bit of ' I'm thinking of ending things' with Jess Buckley. That was also in the 'weird ' category of films
Marmite , love them or hate them

BrookeDavisQueen · 28/01/2023 21:23

I loved it. It surprised me, disgusted me, blind sided me and made me laugh and get all emotional. Everything. Loved the googly eye arc.

It's ok other people didn't like it. Not everyone has to like the same stuff.

the80sweregreat · 28/01/2023 21:24

Ds2 informed me it was a ' multi verse ' film. He wasn't surprised I didn't get it.

CantAskAnyoneElse · 28/01/2023 21:25

Parent’s guide on imdb says there is a fight scene with butt plugs and a kink dungeoun…. you’re teenager told you she has not only seen this mivie, but it’s her favourite?

Isithotinhere · 28/01/2023 21:29

I thought it was great, funny, fast moving but with a lot of heart. I can see how people who don't like sci-fi wouldn't warm to it

Whether you like it or not, it is amazing that a film which centres on a frazzled middle aged woman has been such a smash hit.

It’s not as inappropriate as that sounds.

it’s deeply tedious. The directors’ smug self satisfaction about how yooonique they are shines through.

Waymond was the best, I thought. Though I do love Michelle Yeoh.

DH has gone out and I am slogging through Dr Strange in The Multiverse blah blah blah (granted, I was Marveled out by about Guardians of the Galaxy). I am not cut out for this genre.

DD (15) is here with me and she’s already watched it and says it’s her favourite film. I feel obligated to watch to the end. Shh, she can’t see I’m in MN.

Exactly the same here, dd really, really wanted me to watch it with her. Went from absolutely hating it most of the way through and the end was like an epiphany....see it through

the80sweregreat · 28/01/2023 21:35

She was good in it , nobody can deny this.
I just lost the plot and found it too slapstick.
The cinema references also went over my head too, but I'm not a film buff and often become bored or distracted during long films with complex story lines.
Once I pick up my phone, that's the end really !

BigBadBoom · 28/01/2023 21:36

I loved it, thought it was one of the most original and entertaining films I've seen for a long time 😁 I am a sci-fi nerd though.

rumship · 28/01/2023 21:36

It was okay but I did not get the hype, would not watch it again.

neverbeenskiing · 28/01/2023 22:03

The directors’ smug self satisfaction about how yooonique they are shines through.

Before I saw it a friend briefly described the plot and I thought the same. But when I watched it I found that all the affectionate nods to old martial arts films, classic sci-fi, TV shows, games etc really endearing. I think this, combined with such heartfelt performances from the actors who played Evelyn, waymond and joy saved it from being too pretentious. I can definitely see why it's not everyone's cup of tea though.

PuppyMonkey · 28/01/2023 22:03

Well it’s finished and there was no epiphany.
I was waiting for the last 20 minutes to redeem everything and… no.

i can honestly say that’s amongst worst films I’ve ever watched.

Again, I LIKE sci fi films.

I thought it was deliciously bonkers. I watched it with a friend when from laughing to WTF to WTAF to laughing.

Same, I watched it in the cinema & loved it.

PuppyMonkey · 28/01/2023 22:06

And I’m a film buff.

For me it just symbolised a mother and teenage daughter relationship and I literally sobbed at the end of it! Don't think I've ever cried so much whilst watching a film.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/01/2023 22:09

It reminded me of Tenet. Popular but very difficult to follow.

I love sci fi so it was a bit disappointing.

Itisbetter · 28/01/2023 22:09

Brilliant for the sausage fingers alone

the80sweregreat · 28/01/2023 22:10

It was about acceptance. That's what I took from it anyway , but by the end I had lost the Will to live and was willing it to be over so who knows ! It'll probably win shed loads of awards
