To find DH's fawning over our cat irritating?

DH really fawns over our cat. It gives me the ick. He's really soppy about it, but not in a lively, upbeat silly voice way - more in a slow, serious, intense way. He uses a slightly nauseating 'soft' voice and strokes her really slowly with his head tilted on one side. I know IABU but.... bleugh.

My DH had a very intense relationship with our first cat. He worshipped her and the feeling was absolutely mutual. She tolerated me as I fed her. Losing her was very hard for him. He still can't talk about it without welling up.

I had a similar relationship with my dearly departed dog, I was devastated when we lost her. I will never love another dog the way I loved her.

I count ourselves among the very lucky people who get to have that bond with an animal, it is a very special thing.

I know exactly the style of fawning you’re talking about and it’s giving me the ick just thinking about it! Totally get where you’re coming from OP!

kingtamponthefurred · 28/01/2023 11:29

I'll have him if you want to rehome him. The cats too.

How strange to be jealous over a cat.

🙄 oh give it a rest! OP never said she was jealous of a cat, stop making stuff up! She said the way her DH fawns over the cat is giving her the ick! How you managed to justify to yourself jumping to this conclusion just to be an arse is beyond me!

Sunflowersinthewind · 28/01/2023 11:34

OP are you trying to say he does a weird, icky sex voice to the cat?

Bonjovispyjamas · 28/01/2023 11:34

He sounds like my kind of guy 😁 I never leave the house without telling my foster cats I love them 😜 Current cat is obsessed with washing me, not sure how dirty he thinks I am.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/01/2023 11:34

One of my favourite things about my husband is how much he is caring towards our dogs - they adore him

Toiletfriend · 28/01/2023 11:35

I call my cat my baby, carry him like a baby and kiss his mouth/nose. I also talk to him in a baby voice.

Dagnabit · 28/01/2023 11:36

I think we need to see a video of this so we can make an informed decision 🤔🧐

Allthelego · 28/01/2023 11:36

@Vitriolinsanity and @BlueKaftan thank you very much. It’s a gift! The Vespy cat song is fantastic.

Snazzysausage · 28/01/2023 11:37

I'm afraid I used to make up little songs and sing them to my cat while carrying him in my arms like a baby. He loved it - I think?! I miss that cat every day.🐈‍⬛

getreadyy · 28/01/2023 11:38

Ew. He's flirting with the cat.

Glorianna · 28/01/2023 11:41

To be fair, the way you have described him does sound off-putting. It’s performance cat loving. I bet he isn’t like that when you’re not around. And I’m an avid cat lover.

Sunflowersinthewind · 28/01/2023 11:42

I sing songs to my cat, carry him like a baby (until he gets angry) etc etc.

I think the OP is saying her DH says things like "Oh you are so beautiful, do you like that, does that feel good" in a slow sex voice, which if true is a bit.....gross

The way You describe it is very dramatic, you make it sound like he’s suffering from Ophidiophilia

Why do you assume that?

I treat my cats exactly the same whether I'm alone or with DH, or my mum, or multiple other people Grin

Mabelface · 28/01/2023 11:44

I do this with my cat as he's such a gorgeous, handsome beastie. I'm his preferred human and he's currently keeping my feet warm on the sofa. 😊

MissBattleaxe · 28/01/2023 11:45

My DH talks to the cats in a silly voice and I couldn't love him more. He is devoted to those furbags and it's mutual. He is human catnip.

I also make up songs about my cats and sing to them and am very relieved it's not just me.

Sirius3030 · 28/01/2023 11:46

He is disrespecting you, and you should leave him.
Is that what you wanted to read?

ilovesooty · 28/01/2023 11:46

I hope gives me the ick is a short lived fashion.

TheDogIsTooEarlyForTea · 28/01/2023 11:47

YANBU. This sounds very weird.

Now, if it were a dog that would be another matter.... Grin

If you find it so repulsive and “nauseating” that you’re man is nice and caring with animals, then why are you with him? You’re jealous the animal gets more attention than you More like.

how would your partner feel if he knew you were laughing at him caring about his pet online?? Sure he wouldn’t appreciate you slagging his behaviour off to strangers.

you sound like a piece of work, feel sorry for the fella. Please don’t ever have children if you don’t already, you’ll only hate him caring about them!

Thats you told OP.

ToTheMax0 · 28/01/2023 11:51

My DH uses the water purifer for our cat and checks it isn't too cold for her to drink!

Paulisexcluded · 28/01/2023 11:52

In our house I do all the feeding, vet stuff, shit clearing and DH fawns over the cat.

If I'm sitting next to the cat he says, "oh, the cat wants his tummy stroking". Er, no, not from me thank you very much.

I don't mind it during good times but if dH and I have fallen out it really passes me off when he is all over the fucking cat and not even speaking to me.
YANBU
