To find DH's fawning over our cat irritating?

DH really fawns over our cat. It gives me the ick. He's really soppy about it, but not in a lively, upbeat silly voice way - more in a slow, serious, intense way. He uses a slightly nauseating 'soft' voice and strokes her really slowly with his head tilted on one side. I know IABU but.... bleugh.

It is tough to share a home wiht a cat if you're not a cat worshipper. Most cat owners are worshippers and would see your DH's behaviour as totally normal.

Guilty of being a total cat worshipper here.

Sunriseinwonderland · 28/01/2023 11:01

You are mean OP I long for a partner who loves my cats but I have to keep getting rid of the men in my life because they aren't prepared to come second to my furry overlords.

Vitriolinsanity · 28/01/2023 11:04

I have existential conversations with Virtualcat. She is wise.

Her brother is dumb as toast and I treat him like a dog.

My dog is my second child. My actual child has fewer photos and toys.

amylou8 · 28/01/2023 11:06

I sing to mine, and tell him what a lovely little belly he has, and how he's the bestest bubba ever. I reckon you'd find me quite annoying 🤣

Me too. Blush

Aprilx · 28/01/2023 11:08

I would think it quite sweet if my husband did that to our cat or dogs. He does love them and one of them is asleep on him right now, but he doesn’t coo over them.

Cocobutt · 28/01/2023 11:08

'silly' baby-voice soppy - absolutely fine. I do it myself with her all the time.

So you can talk to the cat in a silly, soppy, baby voice but he can’t talk to the cat how he does?

You sound oddly jealous which is very embarrassing as it’s a cat.

Allthelego · 28/01/2023 11:09

@BlueKaftan I make up songs and sing them to my dog.
Latest is “Sausage dog, sausage dog, sausaaage dooog, you are brown and you look like a log”. It sounds much better in real life than written down.

RDAnna · 28/01/2023 11:10

I do the same thing with my dog. He has an entire album of his greatest hits.

I wish he could talk.

harrassedmumto3 · 28/01/2023 11:11

My cat was put down yesterday and I am distraught. Let him have his wee love affair with her Grin

Butchyrestingface · 28/01/2023 11:12

@Notjusta You must come round my house sometime to accompany me in a rendition of 'If you're happy and you know it, flap your wings' with my boys parrots.

It will make your husband seem desperately normal.

BlueKaftan · 28/01/2023 11:12

“Vespy cat, Vespy cat, she was thin but now she’s fat!”

BlueKaftan · 28/01/2023 11:12

Excellent song writing skills! 😆

bellac11 · 28/01/2023 11:12

You sound hard work.

Leave him for his sake.

DinaofCloud9 · 28/01/2023 11:12

It's good he's kind to animals. Stop being jealous

Vitriolinsanity · 28/01/2023 11:13

There's a Brit in that one @Allthelego

I bloody love sausage dogs.

watcherintherye · 28/01/2023 11:13

It’s a (lighthearted) bone of contention among our dc that dh’s background pic on his phone is an adorable close-up of the cat, rather than them!

BlueKaftan · 28/01/2023 11:13

That was meant for @Allthelego 😻

OnlyFannys · 28/01/2023 11:15

I dance with my cat, I have also given her a voice and when I talk to her I talk back in her voice. My partner thinks I'm nuts

Oh no I'm sorry. Flowers For the record I love my cat and I totally agree a man who didn't like animals and was cruel would obviously be way worse.

I honestly don't feel jealous, just irritated, but maybe I am deep down 🤷🏼‍♀️ I will try to get over it. If I can't, I will be reassured there is an army of mumsnetters out there willing to take him on (but you can't have the cat - I'm keeping her)!

Anyone who shows love to animals is a good guy. A keeper.

Absolutely this. My DH is so good with our lot, even though he really only agreed to get them for me. I caught him with the youngest cat on his lap this morning - cat had his belly in the air purring like mad while DH gave him belly rubs and talked to him about his plans for the day Grin

Ronnie2022 · 28/01/2023 11:17

I’m like this with my cat ! I love him so much!

BlockedbyHfromSteps · 28/01/2023 11:19

Your DH sounds lovely. I find it a very attractive quality if someone is an animal lover and treats them with kindness and respect. It’s all they deserve. Leave him be.

And who are you to control how he chooses to love, bow down and worship that feline creature. That's for the master 🐈 to decide....

Adolph Hitler adored his German Shepherds. Just sayin…

Jeez so you're comparing the OPs husband to Hitler a mass murdering psychopath who is the exception not the rule. You need your head testing.
