To feel sorry for Brooklyn Beckham?

Ridelikethewindypops · 28/01/2023 09:32

I just do feel a bit sorry for him. He's completely out of touch with the real world obviously, but he's so young and so gormless. But seems so determined to be famous in his own right, despite no specialist skill set. I wonder do famous parents ever encourage their children to go to uni and get a real job? Or is that not an option? There are plenty of fulfilling jobs he could do, teaching, nursing, even volunteering ( as he clearly doesn't need the money)
I feel bad for him as he gets mocked online, but he still seems determined to put himself out there.
Money aside, I do feel sorry for the children of spectacularly talented parents, it must cast a long shadow. ( I repeat, money aside...😅)

@x2boys Grin That last bit about Romeo being lent out to Brentwood must have been why Victoria was pictured sitting in that shed at the side of a football pitch grimacing through the cold to watch her son in only the way a mother would! Grin

I didn’t say he was average. I said he’s over rated.

Somebody said 'I’m a big football fan and whilst Beckham was average'.

I don't know who that was and I can't be arsed going and checking, but it's that person I'm saying is being stupid. If you didn't then I'm not referring to you.

Somebody did say that. It wasn’t me, but I did reply and said he wasn’t average but he was overrated. And I stand by that - the likes of Phil Foden are far better footballers with better attitudes

Tbf,the whole of the England team were.overrated at the time ,the current England team are far more talented and far more likeable than when David Beckham. Et al,were in it .

Completely agree.

And I do think the whole WAG/celeb/sarong/affairs culture was really damaging to that squad. This England team seem to keep their noses much cleaner and focus on the game

Average and overrated are of course two completely different points.

flabbygoldfish · 28/01/2023 20:05

David Beckham and football and VB and the spice girls are very similar. Both became very popular because they were in the right place at the right time. Whilst the Spice Girls were an entertaining girl group, they were not exactly cutting edge of the music scene. They made their mark through positive 'girl power' imagery and targeting the right audience.

Beckham was a decent enough player at the time but his image pulled him through when he got together with VB - she was the famous one at the time which got him well known.

blueshoes · 28/01/2023 20:08

Unless they are exceptional in some way, I think it is a curse to be a celebrity's child.

It must hurt their self image to be constantly compared and found to be wanting. It is a crushing demotivator to realise that however hard they work, they will never get more than a fraction of their parent's success on their own steam. They have less room to make the usual mistakes people do, no pressure to put their head down and get a good education. On the contrary, they have endless cash for parties, fast cars, alcohol and drugs, life all documented on instagram. Any success is not their own because people feel they got a leg up. Their friends may be equally troubled and they will need a strong sense of self to break away from destructive friendships.

At least the money and connections are there to catch them if they fall. But what a meanginless life. It would be amazing if they took that wealth and did some good with it.

"He was never a problem until he got married. He used to go into work with the academy coaches at night time, he was a fantastic young lad. Getting married into that entertainment scene was a difficult thing – from that moment, his life was never going to be the same. He is such a big celebrity, football is only a small part."' – Alex Ferguson speaking about Beckham's marriage in 2007.

While I agree with you @theworldhas that it is stupid to say David Beckham was not a talented footballer, that quotation shows only a difference in values between him and Alex Ferguson and perhaps a difference in attitudes between husbands and wives and what people perceive men want as opposed to what they perceive women want.

Neither is wrong. Just different. That is allowed.

Absolutely😂and you would wouldn't you ?If my lad ,was playing football for a team ( hard to.imagine as he hates it) I would be cheering him on no matter how mediocre he was!

i agree, blaming a woman for a man’s cock ups is the hallmark of a raging misogynist, and whilst a talented manager Alex Ferguson does not seem like a good human

Well my 2 kids DO play football and I don’t stand at the sidelines constantly cheering because

  1. It’s bad etiquette
  2. Its a distraction
  3. They’d die of embarrassment
  4. It’s fucking freezing for about 95% of the matches they play and there is literally nothing to smile about Grin

I remember Rooney in (I think SA) having a paddy on the pitch and slagging off fans to the camera because they boo’ed him after a truly shocking selfish performance.

I remember wondering how he went from humble roots to not seeing that people spend their life savings and take time off to go see these games to watch him hog the ball and scream at other players.

Im not sure what it is about the current squad…maybe lessons have been learnt, maybe it’s just that Southgate is an experienced player and excellent manager… but they all remind me of my those friends your kids have who are really polite and you hope they’re the ones the pick to come on a day out because they’re so lovely Grin

I'm not a huge football can we you can probably tell😅but I like watching England in the big games but the current England squad do seem far more likeable and care I say humble than Beckham,Rooney Et al, in their not so glory, days

Fizbosshoes · 28/01/2023 20:39

limitedperiodonly · 28/01/2023 19:31

Why does that matter to you @Fizbosshoes ?

Is Dimitrov, whoever he is, not entitled to earn money giving tennis lessons to someone who is never going to trouble Wimbledon?

Have you never praised you child's art while knowing the only place her pictures will be displayed is on the fridge door?

We all learn our limitations sooner or later but it takes a special kind of cruelty in a parent to say: "This is shit" while chucking their child's painting in the bin.

It doesn't matter to me. I mentioned it because other posters commented on of the boys having tennis coaching.

I didn't say he wasn't good at tennis and I haven't said anyone should say they were shit, why would anyone do that? (And I don't know whether it was the Beckhams themselves, or the press that suggested he might be good enough for Wimbledon) I just not sure why he had to be "the next thing at Wimbledon" rather than "good at tennis".

AyeCarrumba · 29/01/2023 06:44

He's now what, mid 20s? I'm all for finding your career and taking your time to do what you love, but at some point, he needs to get a job*

He doesn't though does he.. that's his problem 🤷🏻‍♀️

Forgetmenot51 · 29/01/2023 08:41

How come he hasn't done any reality shows? I'm sure he would get paid a fortune to do some of them.

ThePoshUns · 29/01/2023 08:46

I think that's the problem, he doesn't need the money.

Heartsofstone · 29/01/2023 08:47

Yabu, feel sorry for someone else. Plenty of people would swap places with him…. Not me I hasten to add, but still since he has fuck all to moan or worry about, there is nothing for anyone to feel sorry for.
