To feel sorry for Brooklyn Beckham?

Ridelikethewindypops · 28/01/2023 09:32

I just do feel a bit sorry for him. He's completely out of touch with the real world obviously, but he's so young and so gormless. But seems so determined to be famous in his own right, despite no specialist skill set. I wonder do famous parents ever encourage their children to go to uni and get a real job? Or is that not an option? There are plenty of fulfilling jobs he could do, teaching, nursing, even volunteering ( as he clearly doesn't need the money)
I feel bad for him as he gets mocked online, but he still seems determined to put himself out there.
Money aside, I do feel sorry for the children of spectacularly talented parents, it must cast a long shadow. ( I repeat, money aside...😅)

Why should it matter if someone works really hard or spends all their time doing nothing?

As long as someone doesn't abuse the benefit system, doesn't behave in an anti-social manner and has no criminal convictions then why does it bother people how they live their life?

That's Brooklyn Beckham. That's also me and I guess a large number of people hating him on this thread.

Fizbosshoes · 28/01/2023 18:56

I'm sure at one point Dimitrov was tennis coaching one of the boys (possibly Romeo) and there was talk of him being the next best thing in tennis.
He could be really good....but still not make it as a professional. And there's no problem with that. Only very few people actually make it, but you can't really buy your way in to the top 100. (Although money helps if you have to fund your travel and kit for all the comprtitions)

Ridelikethewindypops · 28/01/2023 18:56

Just to clarify, I feel sorry for BB as he has been let down by his parents ( imo). They don't seem to have in any way prepared him for life in the real world. As pps have said, this was actually possibly deliberate, with VB taking a leaf from the momager school of parenting/ branding. He also appears to be completely lavking in self awareness ( unless it's all one big double bluff trolling experiment!)

But I would also say, in constantly seeking the spotlight he has opened himself up to scrutiny and unfortunately, ridicule.

I suppose it’s part of life isn’t it, some people unfairly getting ahead because of their connections. Like when the bosses son gets all the promotions! It’s something we all have to live with and I suppose it softens the blow if these people actually work hard and have talent. But when they don’t, but are still fawned over and get all the opportunities, it must be hard for people (such as the person who missed out on a Parsons place) to tolerate.

You misunderstood me. I am not saying he IS a baby. I am saying he is a baby adult - just starting out into decades of adulthood. You can replace baby with new adult or young adult. He is still a youth according to all definitions. He is at the age when many are just finishing uni and he is just starting his career and family life. It is a time of transition into the adult world.

He is at the age where many who can't afford or are not supported to achieve uni have already managed the transition into the adult world by working for 5+ years.

Gotta love the MN-tastic assumption that access to university is a foregone conclusion, & adulting needn't begin until after the first quarter century.

Millions of UK teenagers & early 20's have no choice but to crack on an earn a living, & many of those are better off for it than their more family-privileged peers - in both financial & mental wellbeing terms.

Guy is a complete div, deserves no sympathy.

I admire him for trying lots of things out. He’s got energy and is open to learning.

Eh?

He has form for throwing the towel in early, on the learning opportunities presented to him, & mummy & daddy seem to enable his quitting every time. That's obviously way more his parents' fault than his own, but its hardly being "open to learning".

I am not sure what your point is. I didn't assume everyone goes to uni. But there are 2.5 million young adults in uni - they also exist. And no, not everyone who didn't go to uni had a career and was financially independent at 18. Many still lived at home or with family, and are working their way up to a career or a trade and to financial independence. Many 23 year olds uni or not are still figuring out what they want to do in life and still working on financial independence.

I don’t know. I sort of think there’s something not right in people’s lives that feel the need to say nasty things about people like Brooklyn. It’s a strange thought process that you just have to say negative things about people just because they’re ‘celebs’.

Ridelikethewindypops · 28/01/2023 19:20

@RecordsTurning

but it's not just because he's a celeb, or child of a celeb. He is a self styled cooking expert. He wants people to watch his shows because he believes he has something interesting, informative, insightful to show them. People watch, and then find this not to be the case. 🤷

That's the thing loads of people are good at sport, music ,art or whatever but most won't ever become professional, but it seems like if the Beckham kids show the slightest interest in anything they have to be pushed to be the next best thing

TheKeatingFive · 28/01/2023 19:29

I don't feel anything towards him.

I'm sure he'll find something to occupy himself eventually, he's certainly not alone in titting around a bit aimlessly in his 20s. He'll never want for money, so no pressures there.

Just don’t watch if it’s so irritating. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I find some people annoying, i just don’t watch them, definitely don’t comment on them unless they’ve done something really immoral or broke the law. Where are you seeing all this stuff? Does he have a show? The only place I see things about him is here and the daily mail.

Why does that matter to you @Fizbosshoes ?

Is Dimitrov, whoever he is, not entitled to earn money giving tennis lessons to someone who is never going to trouble Wimbledon?

Have you never praised you child's art while knowing the only place her pictures will be displayed is on the fridge door?

We all learn our limitations sooner or later but it takes a special kind of cruelty in a parent to say: "This is shit" while chucking their child's painting in the bin.

TheKeatingFive · 28/01/2023 19:33

I think it's just YouTube/Insta, which in fairness is open to anyone. No one's forced to watch it.

This is a really horrible, nasty thread.

You don't need to read.

Ridelikethewindypops · 28/01/2023 19:38

I actually haven't watched. I said I feel sorry for him because he has been ridiculed. This thread was intended to be more about children of celebrities and whether they should be envied or pitied, whether their privilege is in fact a curse. Ironically the thread is peppered with posts ridiculing BB. Not my intention but I guess that's what happens when you put stuff on the Internet, you can't control what people will say.

Gary Barlow’s kids go to a school that my daughter visits to play netball against sometimes and I can 100% agree that they are doing the right thing by getting them a good education!

@TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl
I’m a big football fan and whilst Beckham was average, he’s enormously overrated. And also bad tempered and selfish - remember the World Cup red card? Absolutely intolerable behaviour

Oh come on. David Beckham was an extremely talented footballer. 265 games for Man Utd and 116 for Real Madrid - probably the two biggest clubs in the world. Countless trophies and over 100+ England caps given by several different managers. Probably one of the top 20 English players of all time. No, he wasn’t a Messi, Ronaldo, or Maradona, but nor was he overrated.

Interesting quote from Ferguson:

"He was never a problem until he got married. He used to go into work with the academy coaches at night time, he was a fantastic young lad. Getting married into that entertainment scene was a difficult thing – from that moment, his life was never going to be the same. He is such a big celebrity, football is only a small part."' – Alex Ferguson speaking about Beckham's marriage in 2007.

Yes. Saying David Beckham was just average is stupid.

Good for him if he’s not letting nasty peoples opinions stopping him doing things. The problem lies with other people, not him. I wonder if it comes from a place of jealousy or something else. I understand it about people like David Beckham, he’s done a few questionable/immoral things but Brooklyn just seems harmless up until now.

Footballing ability doesn't usually run in families, or does it?
The closest I can get is Harry Redknapp/Frank Lampard.
Perhaps the boys were raised to believe they would all grow up into football stars like their dad so they never bothered with Plan Bs or any other Plan As.

Not to forget that Cruz 'sings' (so just like mum!)

In fairness, I think they tried to push Harper academically. She was at a very high achieving feeder school but she never got into the schools to which it could have led on whereas the PMs daughter breezed it (same cohort, I think).

Ian Wright, Shaun Wright Phillips, D'Margio Wright Phillips.
Robbie Savage, Charlie Savage.
David Johnson, Brennan Johnson
Alfie Haaland, Erling Haaland
Kylian Mbabbe, Ethan Mbappe
Reese James, Lauren James.

Off the top of my head.
