Beauty students asked to strip in front of trans rapist at college AFTER sex attacks

My AIBU title taken from this news article:

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/beauty-students-asked-strip-front-29063499

This whole 'Isla Bryson' cluster-fuck has me angrier than I can describe.

These girls had to accept and trust this vile individual in their beauty course on the basis of Isla's claim to be a woman, nothing more. They even tolerated abuse from Isla.

They were not told this individual was facing charges of rape. The college claim they didn't know either. Because 'Isla' said he was a women, these young women felt they had no choice but to strip to virtually naked in front of him. Failing to do so would be 'bigoted'.

But he also happens to be a serial rapist. Young women, some possibly aged 16 or so, stripping to virtually naked while a serial rapist watches. If this was my daughter I would be going mad.

Where is the safeguarding?

AIBU to feel viscerally angry with all our politicians about this?

😂

Tygger · 01/02/2023 11:36

As if that actually happens🙄

But we do need more people to understand the detail of all this. @Tygger might be typical of lots reading. I didn't like the 'sexy voice' comment though @Tygger .

Yes I accept that understanding is still woefully lacking in many respects, so I do admire your willingness to encourage more awareness. However I ran out of patience on that front many moons ago, after years of working on it.

Those would be 'third spaces' - not disabled toilets. You're wrong about disabled loos: I had to queue many times when using them as baby changing facilities.

If you tried to argue in public that being trans wasn't normal you'd probably lose your job and be charged with a hate crime. If you challenge Queer Theory in any way you're in deep shit. Academics can't even point out the weaknesses and flaws in it without being hounded from campuses as hate figures.

@Tygger it would be much easier to follow your very eloquent posts if you stated who you were replying to

Such a shame.

Mumsnet has helped mobilise women, and that in turn is driving the current kickback

lifeturnsonadime · 01/02/2023 11:41

I do wish Mumsnet would let some of the deleted posts stand.

They are very illuminating.

Yes, I agree @lifeturnsonadime! It's honestly best not to report, in most cases.

Are you under the bizarre impression that the women on this thread haven't given a single coherent thought to this issue? Or that we are stupid? Really? If you sincerely want to understand, check your tone.

Tygger is showing compete ignorance on both the need for disabled facilities for disabled people and the reasons that the appropriate response for women's sport is NOT to suggest athletes refuse to compete.

FFS. Males should be in men's single sex spaces and sports.

It is not for women & disabled people to move over to accommodate them.

In some countries eg USA an asrthlete who refused compete would incur a lot of life-affecting penalties - they would lose their places at many colleges, meaning that they had no chance of a good career; they'd have funding taken from them etc

I would LOVE to see athletes refuse to compete - but it would take ALL athletes, men as well as women, to make the authorities sit up and take notice.

And if spectators made their feelings known as well (as thye did in the Lia Thomas race, when they were silent as he "won", and cheered the girl who came second, and then the other girls, too) it would help.

Refuse to buy from sponsors who support this idiocy. When money is affected, attitudes will change.

Ah shame, it was that deleted post that reminded me it’s teachers strike day so a lot of schools are closed to most pupils.

nilsmousehammer · 01/02/2023 11:45

And I think that conversation's descended about as far as it can go...

always interesting to see the views and PR skills of those here to defend rapists.

Anyway. Returning to the key issue of what to do about preventing the abuse of TQ+ accessibility to female only spaces.

I know.

It has to be on ALL athletes to boycott not just women.

Also I don't think anyone who makes these suggestions has a fucking clue how much hard work it takes to get to professional level and they blithely suggest that women should throw it all away to make way to make way for these males.

These males are fucking laughing their heads off. It's about power and control. And Tygger thinks that the women should acquiesce!

ReneBumsWombats · 01/02/2023 11:47

Yeah, don't give him what he wants. Just report the abusive posts and carry on with the intelligent part of the discussion.

Tygger · 01/02/2023 11:47

You know nothing about my personal situation so wind your neck in. I'm trying to find solutions to a tiny problem, and if it needs more unisex facilities to provide women only places, then I'll continue with my thinking.
The cost would be far less than HS2 and housing illegal immigrants in 4 star hotels.

Somanyquestionstoaskaboutthis · 01/02/2023 11:16

Erm, women’s sport is exactly what you have just said it may be necessary for women to do. So you are arguing that instead of setting up open categories for trans women/ trans men and leaving women’s sport alone, we should let the trans people take the already set up women’s sport and make women start again? How does that logic work?

Can you imagine it? It would just be a load of 2nd rate men telling themselves that they weren't only stunning and brave but world-class athletes.

Also - where would their sponsorship come from? How many spectators want to pay top dollar to watch mediocre men's sport? This is another reason they want to be part of women's sport - the prizes may not be as high as in the men's competitions, but they're better than coming 273rd in a swimming race.

Somanyquestionstoaskaboutthis · 01/02/2023 11:51

@Tygger just before I leave your derail, was your laughing emoji and “as if that ever happened” comment to my post about my experience yesterday? If so I wish you were right, I would not have believed it until disability became DH reality. Don’t mock people who have a different lived experience to you, you just make yourself look stupid.

Anyway, where we’re we before Tygger got here?
