To think we had a ghost?

I have posted about this before, but DD had a scary dream about someone standing on our stairs which made me think of it again!

We moved into our dilapidated bungalow a few years ago. Previously owned by an elderly couple - husband had died. Wife went into care home. It had remained unoccupied for some months. Very dusty, old - imprint of a cross that used to hang on our bedroom wall.

First night - a car seat that I’d placed centrally on a table fell to the floor. Loud bang middle of the night in the darkness.

A week later I distinctly heard the piano being played. Called out well done to DD. She was in a different room and was not playing the piano.

One morning I woke to the sound of an alarm clock. Which stopped as I woke. Desperately searched bed for phone/clock. Nothing there. A few weeks later I looked at picture of bedroom as it was - on rightmove. There was once an alarm clock where I heard the noise.

I didn’t speak about any of this to DD, maybe mentioned to DP - but certainly not in front of DD as I wouldn’t want to scare her.

DD went to the toilet and DP saw her freeze. She said there was a man in the toilet wearing a suit. And he disappeared. DD then refused to go to toilet without an adult for several weeks.

Then - nothing more. And if I did perhaps wonder if we had a ‘ghost’ - I certainly don’t now. It’s our home.

My justification for this is : settling in to a new home, and my mind racing. The state it was in and an over active imagination on my part. All my communications to DD were rational and we always said the ‘ghost’ in the toilet was Daddy’s shadow. Only I spoke to our neighbour who knew the elderly couple - she remarked that he was always smartly dressed…

Tell me I’m mad!

When we first moved in to this house. The previous owner in her 90s grasped my hand and said she wished me and my children a happy life like she had had. She died the next day.

For the first few weeks Is be in the kitchen and shout in reply - Yeah? Then, did you call me? To my then 19 year old son (upstairs).
He was doing the same, hearing someone call him then calling down, what did you say Mum?

The voices were as clear as day. Mum? Mum?

Yes?

Wasn't me... And vice versa.

My Nan did change her clock that we'd hung on our wall after she passed. She put it back to the exact time DD was born. This happened on DDs birthday. I loved that. Big up Nan.

@Skinnermarink We had exactly that same experience of a huge crashing upstairs when I was a teenager. Parents out but both my brothers heard it - like a bookcase being pushed over and all the books coming out. Made them go upstairs to check- nothing had moved.

But bits of that house did not feel good, and interestingly it has been derelict for several years, despite being in a v poncey footballer filled Cheshire village

I wouldn’t dismiss the idea of ghosts although I’ve never had any odd experiences, but the alarm clock? I can’t put that down to anything “woo” unless anyone is suggesting inanimate objects can be ghostly as well.

Our cat was killed on the road and for weeks after we would hear meowing, little paws running around up stairs and the spring door stops would just randomly make a noise as if they had been swotted. It was clear that dkitty was hanging around but he soon moved on xx

I'm so sorry. When I lost my first foster dog I used to hear the distinctive noise of his collar with two tags on it and his heart murmur cough when I was alone.
With my second foster who I ended up adopting I heard his nails clatter on the hardwood floor one afternoon. So clearly that I got up to let him out before remembering he had died.
Our family dog died just before Christmas and I was sat watching tv the other night and I swear I heard her snore. I even looked over to where her bed had been to shush her.

Thought I’d just add that DP’ been ill and has been sleeping in our old downstairs bedroom on an air bed. Which is where the odd things seemed to happen previously. It’s a toy room now. He said one of the toys started playing it’s loud jingle in the middle of the night. I guess it’s explainable - although he did comment that it wasn’t just a simple button that could have been easily triggered - it was a slider that needed some force to turn back to ‘off’.

And then DD started talking about her dream from January again in the car today. Apparently it was a normal, happy dream until she suddenly heard a voice say ‘leave’ in the dream. Then the dream changed into a half awake/half asleep dream where she was aware of her immediate surroundings. And she says she saw something strange at the bottom of the stairs.

Hate this! DD just suddenly came out with it again, but in more detail. I hadn’t heard the full dream before. No prompting, and of course I made light of it with her.

We had some strange things go on in our old house , a furby going off at 3 am on a high shelf . It was motion activated . It was really creepy

When i was younger (in my parents house)- had a friend over, we were on the computer surfing heard heavy footsteps come from the door through the kitchen and we both said hi expecting it to be my dad,no one there. At night woke up heard tap running in the kitchen,i thought my mum was awake, went to the kitchen,my mums bedroom was from other side of the kitchen so we both met up in the kitchen asking each other if everythings okay why are you running a tap at night,my mym had been asleep heard the same thing thought i was awake. I saw sometimes a shadow go past me up/down the stairs, when the whole family was downstairs noises upstairs etc.

in the house we lived before that there was one constant thing,it had a long hallway and all the rooms were off the at hallway- footsteps going up and down the hallway,i was too scared to look as a child i hid under blanket but my mum has always said she heard them too at night.

I always felt there was a ‘ghost’ in our home. Felt a presence for a few years, then I had my youngest, born in the living room. It all stopped thereafter. I justify it by it being because she was born here, the ghost has said, ok this is your family home now I’ll go.

Skinnermarink · 28/02/2023 07:10

I commented on page one but the weird noise has happened again since. At my mum’s house, they’ve built up into the bungalow loft so there’s a hallway with stairs going up but it’s totally enclosed behind a door. We were watching tv on the other side of this and there was a huge thump on the door, as if someone had just pumped their fist on it, hard. We all looked at each other and it happened again, this time next to the door, through the walk. My mum said ‘maybe it’s the cat, he was asleep up there and he’s wanting to get out’ (huge noise for a cat!)

No cat on the other side of the door, he was fast asleep on the bed upstairs.

My husband is a total non believer and thinks we’re daft as there’s always an explanation, but he’s not come up with one yet.
