Dancing on the picket line…

I don’t know why I find it quite irritating to see the strikers dancing on the picket line. The physios today were worse than ever with their clapping and dancing.

They are on the picket line on their day off, not one of them is supposed to be ‘on duty’ so they can bloody dance if they want to!

Honper · 26/01/2023 20:30

We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance
And if they don't dance
Well, they're no friends of mine

Eastereggsboxedupready · 26/01/2023 20:31

Doesn't have the same ring to it as Dancing On The Ceiling imo.

User1794329709 · 26/01/2023 20:32

It's to put on a show

Eyerollcentral · 26/01/2023 20:33

Beaminggreat · 26/01/2023 19:22

No I think they deserve a lot better pay. Absolutely no idea why it annoyed me.

It’s to keep warm and to keep morale up. They are standing in the cold all day without pay to protest for better pay and conditions. It’s a fairly miserable activity if you don’t add a bit of dancing and singing.

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/01/2023 20:33

God I hate that work 'ick'

So what if they were dancing.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/01/2023 20:34

The ick? No one is asking you to shag them!

They’re probably keeping warm as others have said.

User1794329709 · 26/01/2023 20:34

The nurses were dancing in covid times , it's probably similar to that

Honper · 26/01/2023 20:34

Eastereggsboxedupready · 26/01/2023 20:31

Doesn't have the same ring to it as Dancing On The Ceiling imo.

They're both good tunes but mine is by Men At Work and therefore my selection contains a meta reference.

MrsMurphyIWish · 26/01/2023 20:35

The phrase “ick” gives me the “ick”.

BertaHoon · 26/01/2023 20:36

Beaminggreat · 26/01/2023 19:16

I know. Not sure why but it really gives me the ick.

The ick eh?

Imagine what fucks them off to be doing this. Slightly more than an 'ick'.

Hillrunning · 26/01/2023 20:36

I danced on the picket line a few months ago, it was fucking freezing, would have been dangerous to stand still for 5 hours.

MrsMurphyIWish · 26/01/2023 20:37

Cats4life · 26/01/2023 19:30

I was striking today and my toes were numb because it was so cold.... but god forbid I move around incase some rando prat gets the ick

@Cats4life Solidarity and support! I’m on a Union walk Weds, I may have a wiggle.

PinkyFlamingo · 26/01/2023 20:40

Do people actually use the term "gives me the ick" in real life? Surely not?

TinDogTavern · 26/01/2023 20:41

One of my friends is out on strike next month. They've booked a face painter. It's ostensibly for kids who might be with them because the teachers will be on strike, but we all know it's for them really 🤣

iklboo · 26/01/2023 20:43

It's bleeding freezing at the moment. Moving keeps you warm. I'm trying to find the passage or rule in my union handbook that sets out the etiquette of picket lines - 'stand still & look sombre lest you give passers by The Ick'. Funnily enough, there isn't one.

bluebeardswife7 · 26/01/2023 20:59

I thought they were a good advertisement for phisiotherapy. Fit and very athletic. I wish them well and hope they get the money they deserve. Smile

Confusedandunsureofwhattodo · 26/01/2023 21:02

They are Physios...literally doing what they teach and promoting activity, exercise and weight-bearing! They are living their role, keeping warm and increasing morale....

Campervangirl · 26/01/2023 21:28

I dunno about the dancing but I work in the rail industry and I was out on site today, middle of nowhere looking at some equipment.
The cold seeps into your bones when you're not moving about, it's a different kind of cold to being outside in winter, shopping, walking etc, you warm up.
Standing still in the cold, it sets into your bones, it creeps up through your feet, it finds its way in through any opening in your clothes, your clothes get cold, it's awful, I wear full PPE including thermal underwear, 2 pairs of thermal socks and a heated vest.
So I'm not surprised the strikers were dancing

Tiani4 · 26/01/2023 21:48

It was 5'C out today.
I've been shivering and cold for in my bones just from couple hours total of driving and going out in visits for work. Let alone standing outside for what 8 hours or more?

I'd be salsa-ing 💃, a few waltzes, pasodoble, tangos , some very rousing singing and star jumps Igbo had to stand outside for hours. I hope someone took a burger van near. The striking nhs staff need it!

Trinity65 · 26/01/2023 21:49

The Ick

😂😂🙄

Tootyfilou · 26/01/2023 21:51

Not as ‘ irritating” as not having an NHS will be 😕

NorthernLights5 · 26/01/2023 22:16

It hasn't bothered me but I do understand. The last strike day I was with a patient receiving end of life care who was agitated and in terrible pain.

We're a residental home so we are unable to administer these medications. I consider being with people whilst they are dying a priviledge. But that day was truly awful. They were hugging me so tightly asking for me to promise to remember them. It broke my heart. I had tried to explain the strikes and why I could only help in certain ways but they needed those medications.

I work across 8 care homes and all carers have said they'd like to strike due to terrible pay and conditions but would worry too much for the people we care form

That’s awful, the poor patient.
Are you a member of a union?

I know. Not sure why but it really gives me the ick.

People using the word ick ..... is well ick!

Good on them dancing, keeps their spirits up.
